DOCTOR STRANGE Gets PROMETHEUS Writer; Jared Leto In The Running For Title Role

Director Scott Derrickson has shared his thoughts on helming Doctor Strange for Marvel Studios, and now a writer has been found! That will be Prometheus scribe Jon Spaihts, and in even more exciting news, Dallas Buyers Club's Jared Leto is being eyed for the title role...

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios is in talks with Jon Spaihts to write the script for Doctor Strange. If that name is familiar, it could be because he's been attached to write Universal's reboot of The Mummy, as well as the first draft of Sir Ridley Scott's Prometheus. The plan is to get a script and put this movie in production as soon as possible, so don't be surprised if it's announced as Marvel's other 2016 movie. Oh, and that shortlist of actors including Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch? They've been joined by Academy Award winning actor Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club). The first draft of the Doctor Strange script was penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. Would you guys like to see Leto get the part? Sound off below!

Remember guys, Spaights wrote the promising script of Prometheus, not the rewritten one that Lindelof shitted all over.
MrSotoMan - 6/18/2014, 4:01 PM
I hope he does make an amazing Strange, but I don't know........we'll see.

MrSotoMan - 6/18/2014, 4:03 PM

KurtWagner1225 - 6/18/2014, 4:04 PM

typicalfanboy - 6/18/2014, 4:05 PM
i just don't get it. who wants to see ant-man and dr. strange? i have to hand it to them though, they made bank with b-list characters no one really knew about. i guess that's why, since they could change things and the mass audience wouldn't know.

Abary - 6/18/2014, 4:07 PM
People have said that Dr Strange would be the one replacing Iron Man once RDJ can't do it anymore, and I think Leto is the perfect actor to take over. He can absolutely nail Strange.
staypuffed - 6/18/2014, 4:07 PM
Jared Leto would be great.
MrSotoMan - 6/18/2014, 4:07 PM
Anybody who hasn't read JOHN SPATHIS Alien script, please do not state he is a bad writer because the script was actually a great script
Mrcool210 - 6/18/2014, 4:09 PM
@Eziokenway, he was still involved in writing that POS! and he also wrote the darkest hour.....another [frick]ing terrible movie.
KurtWagner1225 - 6/18/2014, 4:09 PM
i hope they atleast announce the actor who is playing dr strange at comic con
MrSotoMan - 6/18/2014, 4:09 PM
Why does everybody think Leto would be great?

Besides his Oscar winning role of being a tranny with HIV and being killed off by HIV to send a deep message to audiences, can you guys please tell me.......WHY he would be a good fit for Strange?

KurtWagner1225 - 6/18/2014, 4:13 PM
this is Spaihts history from Wikipedia

As a screenwriter Spaihts became known in the film industry as a "go-to-guy for space thrillers" when his science fiction romance Passengers was included on the 2007 Black List of unproduced high-value screenplays. Keanu Reeves had hired Spaihts to write the film after originally becoming attached to Spaihts' now abandoned science fiction script Shadow 19. After Reeves agreed to produce and star in Passengers, Spaihts was commissioned by Scott Free to write the next installments in the Alien saga, two prequel films to be directed by Ridley Scott, which eventually turned into the more autonomous story Prometheus, co-written by Damon Lindelof.
For New Regency Spaihts wrote the screenplay to the alien invasion thriller The Darkest Hour, based on a story by Leslie Bohem and M.T. Ahern. Spaihts worked on a film version of St. George and the Dragon for Sony Pictures, and originated a Disney film project called Children of Mars. In 2012 he entered a two-picture deal at Jerry Bruckheimer Films to adapt Ashley Wood's graphic novel World War Robot and write a space adventure film based on his own original pitch. Spaihts was also commissioned to write the reboot of The Mummy franchise for Universal to be produced by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Sean Daniel.
In 2013 Spaihts began work on the story for the Black Hole remake by Walt Disney Studios. The rights to his early science-fiction screenplay Passengers were sold to the Weinstein Company, with Keanu Reeves and Reese Witherspoon set to star and Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk at the helm.

MCU for life!
MrSotoMan - 6/18/2014, 4:13 PM
Well.....I don't see him as Strange, but I don't see half the actors that get cast into superhero roles look or feel like the superhero.

I trust this is a good decision from the rabid fanboy named Kevin Fiege
Omarvls - 6/18/2014, 4:14 PM
Leto will Kill is Dr Strange

Look at all the Haters
NightForce - 6/18/2014, 4:14 PM
From the other thread

Phronesis - 6/18/2014, 4:14 PM
Jared Leto? Cool. I can some-whats see it. Prometheus writer? Dammit.
Mrsinister - 6/18/2014, 4:14 PM
@soto because he's hot
Batmantis - 6/18/2014, 4:14 PM
@batz11 - American Psycho isn't really a good example of his work.

Mrcool210 - 6/18/2014, 4:15 PM
@ezio kenway. Regardless of how much he wrote on Prometheus, the fact that he's only written one other movie, and that that movie was a pile of shit (the darkest hour) doesn't make me too happy, he hasn't proven himself as a writer yet.
