Doctor Strange Reference Spotted In Thor?

Doctor Strange Reference Spotted In Thor?

Spoiler Warning: from a snapshot at a theater screening of Marvel's much-anticipated THOR film, a mystical reference to Doctor Strange's amulet has been spotted. Check it out!

With an interweaving cinematic universe paving the way for easter eggs, cameos & references to other characters in solo-films, Marvel Studios' latest big-screen adaptation, Kenneth Branagh's Thor, is no exception. I was recently contacted via email with an interesting reference from the film, supposedly captured at a screening from a scene in Odin's Vault, featured is a nod to Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange.

The Eye of Agamotto, the name commonly given to Doctor Strange's amulet. Via Marvel Wiki, It was placed into the care of Eternity until a worthy mage could successfully reach him. Doctor Strange did so, and was given the Eye to battle Dormammu.

Also, it's well known that Marvel Studios have been keen on adapting Doctor Stephen Strange to the big-screen, essentially with reports mid-last year of Conan scribes Thomas Donnelly & Joshua Oppenheime coming on board. And with this appearance of the Eye of Agamotto in Thor, it could mean it's coming closer to actuality. what do you think?

If you've yet to see the film, or you blinked and missed it, be sure to keep an eye open (corny joke, I know).

Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. And Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Ray Stevenson, Stellan Skarsgård and Tom Hiddleston, the film releases May 6!

jimoakley666 - 4/30/2011, 9:56 AM
It's in a scene near the begging where Odin narrates and tells of the vault where all of the universes most dangerous weapons are kept, including the destroyer and the "Tesseract". You can't miss it. It's a right in your face close up.
Frecks - 4/30/2011, 9:56 AM

DarrkEvil: What referance was in Spiderman 2?
jazzman - 4/30/2011, 10:10 AM

its when J. Jonah Jameson is needing a name for Doctor Octavius, one suggestion from Hoffman is Doctor Strange and J. Jonah Jameson said that the name has already been taken.
JWStubner - 4/30/2011, 10:14 AM
Good to see... hopefully this means Dr. Strange is the next Marvel Hero to get a film adaption.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I DEMAND DR. STRANGE AND ANT-MAN IN 2013!!!! Disney/Marvel...make it happen.
SpideyDude - 4/30/2011, 10:18 AM

JohnTom88 - 4/30/2011, 10:19 AM
And that's why Marvel is awesome.

CraptainAmerica - 4/30/2011, 10:23 AM
@jazzman. Well remembered! When they enter before the '?' try to steal the '?' right?
Themagicflipflop - 4/30/2011, 10:24 AM
Totally missed that, the 3D must have blinded me for a second ha but I was looking out for Cap A and Avenger Easter eggs didn't really expect any dr strange references!!
CraptainAmerica - 4/30/2011, 10:31 AM
ACTUALLY! I also was looking for the INFINITY GAUNTLET but didn't catch it!

Did anybody else see it?
CraptainAmerica - 4/30/2011, 10:35 AM
What makes you think that?
jazzman - 4/30/2011, 10:41 AM

yeah your right its that scene

the Gaunlet was not in the movie but i remember they put the camera on some rock i think i thought it could of been Vibranium but i could be wrong.
MovieTheaterLad - 4/30/2011, 10:43 AM
And this is why I don't watch movies in 3D!
jazzman - 4/30/2011, 10:44 AM

Themagicflipflop - 4/30/2011, 10:47 AM

CraptainAmerica - 4/30/2011, 10:53 AM
@Jazzman. The jagged rock? That's a good theory! It wouldn't surprise me if they confirmed that as Vibranium

@flipflop. I think I'd have missed it if it WASN'T in 3D. I think I accidentally caught it!
jazzman - 4/30/2011, 10:58 AM

u remember that scene, i was like what is that rock could it be a piece of Vibranium.

anyway i had to watch Thor in 3D cause when i paid for 2D the sound and screen was f**ked up so the manager of the cinema told everyone we can watch it in 3D we dont have to pay extra to watch :P. but watching it in 3D is not a good idea since u can miss some nice easter eggs.
Hulkson - 4/30/2011, 11:04 AM
I think I saw the Gauntlet. It was in the backround before Loki walked straight to the tesseract.

Also, wow, how can some people miss the eye. It was in front of the screen and moving. We also talked a lot about that in other posts!
CraptainAmerica - 4/30/2011, 11:09 AM
@jazzman. Good call. I can't wait to rewatch it and see what it looks like. I guess unless they confirm it beforehand we will have to wait for Cap to see what the Vibranium looks like then!

@darantino. I'll check again when I have a second viewing! After they had it at Comic-Con along with the Thor and Loki helmets inwas expecting to catch it! Also, I think I saw the eye better because of the 3D
TheStranger - 4/30/2011, 11:11 AM

@SirPrize you're thinking of the amulet. The actual Eye of Agamotto is a magical device he uses at times and is kept in his Sanctum Sanctorum. There are times when he refers to his amulet as "The Eye of Agamotto" and causes some confusion, but he does have an actual mystical artifact that he uses to divine things even his amulet isn't capable of. It's basically a bigger version of his amulet and he uses it like a crystal ball basically. I think this is indeed what people see in Thor. It is also sometimes referred to as the "Orb of Agamotto" and is drawn differently depending on the artist. It's usually a bigger version of the amulet or a giant eye. For a reference point the early Defenders comics should give you a few pics.
Starlight - 4/30/2011, 11:39 AM
The Reference to HULK "a scientist expert on gamma rays" was AWESOME too !!!
marvel72 - 4/30/2011, 11:39 AM

Dechiriko - 4/30/2011, 12:03 PM
I remember seeing this, but I didn't know what it was. Nice.
0zymandias - 4/30/2011, 12:15 PM
Yes I remember this scene. It went by too fast for me to recognize the diverse objects. Most curious.
