hello every one, I am new to this page but not to anything having to do with this movie. let me start by saying(not to insult any of you but) I am the biggest dragonball fan out of any one I've ever met in my life I was one of the first people in the U.S. to really latch on to the series when it started airing on broadcast t.v. almost TEN YEARS before anyone else even knew what I was talking about, but anyway to the problem at hand. since first visiting this site I have seen more then a few post from people saying they think this SECOND live action dragonball movie might be pretty good, to I have to ask, WHAT IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY IN THIS WORLD IS WRONG WITH YOU??!!!!!??? people like this SGA guy who say things like "Justin Chatwin makes a perfect Goku" should all be tied to a chair and beat repeatedly over the head with a baseball bat. it is dummies like that who will TOTALLY KILL anything good in dragonball by promoting this piece of crap. if any of you who are true dragonball fans are interested in watching a decent live action dragonball movie I would try& get your hands on a copy of the Asian live action film that came out in the early 90's. they couldn't call any fo the characters by their real names cause the never got the official ok from toei or bird or anything, & the production value wasn't that high, but I say this much: it looked like dragonball & aside from having the Grandpa Gohan character in the movie it was a fairly fathfull retelling of the frist DB animated movie. if you wanna check it out its called Dragonball: The Magic Begins. but with this piece of junk, there are so many things wrong I wouldn't even want to start going down the list it would just get me even more upset. besides anyone who has ever watched the show already know where these guys have messed up. in closeing I say once again ANYONE WHO THINKS THIS "MOVIE" IS DECENT SHOULD BE SHOT!!!

Hey johan02 everyone is entitled to their opinion and tastes, that is why there is different flavors for almost everything you can think of, SGA is crazy but shooting him will not solve anything. That still doesn't change that this whole movie will be the worst piece of crap ever, just that some people love crap, some don't.

hmmmmm, in genral i think that this movie is gonna bomb, and not live up the tv series... cuz the tv series is a classic, and is one of the best of all times....and to me think its hard to make a movie following a series like that... when i heard first they was gonna make a movie, shit was like fat kid in a candy store.... but now wat i seen i think it gonna be a big let down... HOPEFULLY i eat my own words, but i doubt it

We can all agree that this movie is a travesty that should have been shelved when they got rid of Toriyama as an advisor. White-washing and retooling a story that is considered legendary in the comic book community is ridiculous. While this works for American properties like X-Men, that is only because American comics are rewritten, rebooted, and reworked so often that it doesn't matter what Hollywood does to it.
However, Dragon Ball and other Japanese properties are stories with a beginning, a middle and most importantly an END. So we know hoe the stories and how this story ends(after Boo...lets not talk about GT)so its ridiculous to try and change the story.

Hay everyone its me again, tell me, do you call yourself dbzfan2009 cause thats when you first discovered it?? "i don't see anything wrong with the cast"? WHAT KIND OF DRUGS ARE YOU ON??!!! None of the jerk offs look ANYTHING like the characters they're playing, personaly I think Chow Yun Fat as Roshi is the worst but the just me. And why do I keep hearing all these guys saying "its not just for the fans" like that has anything to do with it. We weren't fans when we started watching the shows or reading the manga. Why do they feel the need to change everything? If you ask me the SMART thing to do would be just tell it like it was, from the begining. Get the new non-fans hooked just like all of us were, it clearly worked or else why would anyone want to make a movie about it? Why do they feel they have to destroy a thing to make a better new one? It's not only STUPID but sad. Oh yeah dbzfan2009, since you brought up Resident Evil, just so you know, the idea behind theose was not to "change" or "retell" the games it was to have the movies fit in between the game, the first movie just before the first game, the second right before nemisis, & the thired is ment to be the end point of the whole thing, or so I've been told. Thats the only thing that made those movies exceptable but this.....this is the kind of thing that makes me want to take a chainsaw to the Fox airheads the gave this steaming heap of shit the greenlight. I mean they sat on the title for eight years cause THEY couldn't find something they liked to make it work, be it a script(and lots were writen) or directers(rolend emric was thought of at one point) or whatever but I just find iot hard to beleive THIS was the cream of the crop. The orignal 3 movie idea I first heard they were talking about was actually pretty dead on with the show, it started(like this movie)in just DB, but keeping close to the show, next was to be DBZ first sequel the Sayain/Vageta storyline, then ending with Frezza, the final movie to be the Cell story, but starting off like this I doubt the other two will be worth it, if they every actually see the light of day. This movie is goina to be a bigger bomb the one we droped on Hiroshima, and its fallout will kill any sequel hope. As I said in a privous post on this sit(the 'what fox did right' topic) the only thing that could save this movie would be the dragonballs themselfs.

Johan, honestly, theres no point in calling out fans of the show because YOU feel that if you're a fan, and you see the movie, it's a sin. You need to chill out. Just like every book, game, or comic that is made into a movie, there are going to be changes in order to fit what works for budget, fans and NON-fans. I'm a huge fan of the show as well, a lot of people are, I honestly don't believe you're the biggest fan and it's very conceited of you to think that and criticize others for their opinions the way that you have.

And getting back to the changes again, it's important to remember that the dragonball series, was one of the most outrageous cartoons out there and things HAVE to change in order fit what is available to movie execs. and to make sense to people who were not previously fans of the show. Personally, I'm going to give this movie a chance. Movies oft his type often are not what they seem until you have seen a FINISHED PRODUCT. Does this movie have the potential to bomb? Sure it does, but so does every other movie.

I bet johan02 is just some loser who doesn't know anything about dbz but the the title. You can't criticize a movie you haven't even SEEN! What kind of drugs are you on? Yes, db and dbz were great shows and mangas. This is something different to the to story. I think this movie is going to be epic. The visual effects are good, the characters look nice, and the story isn't that bad. Just stop your constant bitching and wait you see the movie before you criticize. If they made the movie just like the show, then goku would be some dumb ass KID beating the shit out of Piccolo! That would suck! I don't mind some of the changes to the movie, although some are gay (i.e. master roshi's island)

ok, this is the first time I've been to this part of the site in a wile, & let me say WOW you guys must really think I'm a dick. yes, very true but I am just a truely dedicated DB fan, I knew everything about the whole show 10 years before they even finished the Frizza saga here in the U.S. by getting bootlegs & reading online summeries. I knew the whole story of GT before anyone even knew there was something after Z. my friends would be bugging out about Goku going SSJ1 for the first time, I was like "you think thats cool, wait till you see SSJ3" they were like "theres a level 3???" I have been keeping up with this whole movie since they first started talking about in like '98 before Fox bought the rights. I was so thrilled when they did cause I knew that was a deffinit they were going to do it. thats 1 of the reasons I'm so pissed cause not only has it taken almost 10 years to happen but they ruined it. it could have been done right, I understand they have to change things some times, but the things they HAVE done are things that didn't NEED to be done. not to conect with nonfans, not for a better embodied movie, not to try & cover alot of ground in a short time, NONE OF IT WAS NEEDED!!!!! they just changed things, and for what reason???? can any of you who are defending this garbadge tell me that, what were the reasons for makeing Goku a highschool nerd?? for haveing Mai be Piccolos side kick??? for haveing Yamcha be a 30 somthing BLONDE guy??? for putting the majority of the film in a city type setting?? for casting an actor to play Roshi that looks nothing like the charater? and the same for Chatwin, why in the world would they cast a whiny doff like him???? are there even answers to these questions??? I doubt even Fox could give satisfatory answers that made sence. all of that could have been easily avoided by simply getting a wirter & directer that were fans, or atleast AWEARE of the source before getting atached to the project.
the reason I give all you suporters of this peice of crap so much hell is, in total honesty you guys on here & a few other sites I visit are the ONLY people I've heard say they think this is gonna be good. I know alot of anime fans & alot of my friends are big DB fans, but even the ones who didn't like the show ALL think this looks horrible and that its not Dragonball. the only thing that makes this Dragonball is use of the names & haveing dragonballs in the story. I mean, you have to look at it like this, when talking about a thing like Dragonball you are talking a visual propity, & with DB in perticular something with a VERY iconic identafiable look. but, as with anything book movie comic t.v. show the story is the other big part of what makes that thing what it is. so basicly Dragonball is ONLY Dragonball cause it looks like Dragonball & it tells the story Dragonball tells, this movie holds true to nither the look or story of Dragonball so how is it you could ever see it as Dragonball??? everything I have just said is fact, not opinon, please find some way to show me HOW this CAN be Dragonball??? I AM BEGGING YOU prove me wrong. I think one of the things you aren't getting about me is no one, NO ONE would love this movie to be good more then me, but I already know too much about it to give myself the hope that it might. It was a bad movie, compared to all of the great movies we've been subjected to in the last year, but it's not a crapfest. I've seen much, much worse movies. At least when I finished this movie, I wasn't pissed off for wasting time watching it. I just wasn't satisfied. It wasn't as bad a Batman and Robin, Meteorman, or even Catwoman. Catwoman sucked so much, it was like paying a 5 dollar hooker 100 bucks for services.

ok joker13, I saw the movie 2 or 3 weeks BEFORE it opened. I would have been open to something new IF it was actually Dragonball, this peice of crap movie is not though. you see I won't have minded them haveing an origanl story, like the DBZ movies, you know haveing nothing to do with the show, as long as it was true to the characters. but once again this steaming pile of dog shit was not. if you had actually read any of my posts you would know I have been waiting for a DB movie to come out snice before Fox bought the film rights in 01/02, I think that gives me the right to be pretty pissed off at the result, considering they could have done SSSOOOOO much better if only they had gotten some people that knew the smallest things about Dragonball. sadly James Wong & Ben Ramsey don't & turned out to be the worst choices imagenable. & if you had truely paied attention to my posts you would know I was one of the first people in the U.S. to even know what Dragonball was. I don't say these things to insult, they are just truth. I never lie, don't beleive in it, no point. when I say I was one of the first to know Dragonball & AM one of its biggest fans it is because its true. the reason this movie upsets me so much is cause I AM a true Dragonball fan. I LOVE Dragonball, & will not be happy with anything calling itself Dragonball that is anything less then the equeal to the origanl or better. for that to happen they need to not only be true to the characters & who they truely are but also the look(as best as possable) & feel of Akira Toriyamas creations. this movie has NONE of that, they only thing it has incommen with the real Dragonball(& I have said this before) are the names of things THATS IT!

shenlong its the american name...in the manga its shenron..but....ok Johan...im agree in the opinion of the film failed to meet expectations, but I think that this was not the casting or the way we wanted to make history ... dragonball is too long to put in a piece of film for 75 minutes ... I think we should do it well make it long ... but I think it would last much longer
