Hello and I'm The Comic Critic,

Iron Man started the Marvel Universe craze in 2008, it is no wonder why helped with Robert Downey Jr's excellent charisma playing the character and feeling deeply in the role unlike any actor. It was as if he was born as Tony Stark himself but did not see his potential yet. But sadly all great things must come to an end. His time as Iron Man is almost over, Robert's contract for the role is not looking so well. Also not say Marvel has enough money alone to pay him to do the role again. Well this is just a thought if in a few years bound possibly after The Avengers 2 Marvel would look to find a replacement actor for the role. But who in the world would ever match his power performance or ever come close to doing so. Well I have carefully researched a list of 5 great actors who is perfect in doing so. Read on my fellow comic users!

5 - Ed Helms

Known for his work in The Office and the recently hit blockbuster series The Hangover, he is a great comedian and actor. While he does not exactly match Downey's charisma he does indeed match one similar to Tony Stark's personality.

4 - Matthew McConaughey

He is a great actor well known to both Drama,Action, and a few comedy films. I can safely say if they use him, it will be as good as Daniel Craig in 007. He also has the billionaire look going down for him. We can get a much more serious and deadly Iron Man from him.

3 - Benicio Del Toro

I know most of you will say using him is just jumping the gun based on his background. But why not a different Iron Man with an another ethnic background plate. He has started in a mix of action and comedy films I think he also has the talent to pull of this role easily. Only time would tell if he is willing to accept a role like this.

2 - Charlie Day

Here's an actor similar to my first choice Ed Helms. He comedic style comes very close to him. He may seem really young for the role of Iron Man but a few years down the line he would be perfect.

1 - Chris O' Donnell

You guys may be thinking, the former Robin actor? How would he be any good in this role. Just to say he has matured a lot since those movies and has gone off to star in better projects so far. He certainly does not have the Downey or Stark look but it's a fresh start. If they were looking for a new one why not a much different route instead of going the same path. He definitely has some hints of charisma and personality looking at his interviews so lets also give this choice a shot at it.

Well out of all these choices who would be the best one to replace Downey. If you have any other suggestion's post in the comments below and I'll check it out.

LOL! Both your articles suck!
LP4 - 8/10/2012, 7:57 AM
Odd choices to say the least. I can't honestly see Ed Helms nor Matthew McConaughey as the character. Charlie Day is way too puny and weasely to be Iron Man/Tony Stark, sorry to say and Benicio Del Toro? I don't want to racial-categorize Tony Stark but come on man.

Nice attempt but unfortunately not one of these are a good choice. I would go with Tom Cruise but...he's in...a weird place right now :P
LP4 - 8/10/2012, 8:00 AM
Oh and I forgot Chris O'Donnel...yet another random choice on your part.

Before RDJ got the role in 2008, I honestly believed Tom Cruise could have made a great Tony Stark, he looks the part and he's a great actor, does great action films and can pull off the slick attitude.

If RDJ hangs up the helmet, I'd go with Tom Cruise.
hellfire - 8/10/2012, 8:02 AM
@Run LOL
@CC LOL

and for this article plus the avengers logo you designed and the Boll article really? lol mate don't let them put you off I'm finding them highly amusing as well as the feed back you're getting
LP4 - 8/10/2012, 8:04 AM
@ComicCritic- Yeah and there's no denying that he has the natural attitude of Stark in many of his films as well. Plus he looks the part and he's an action-star. It just seems perfect.

LP4 - 8/10/2012, 8:09 AM
@ComicCritic- Perhaps but Cruise is the last one i can think of other than RDJ for the role. Give me some time to think of some qualified actors.
RunDTC - 8/10/2012, 8:11 AM
Cruise plays himself in every movie? have you seen Collateral or Tropic Thunder?
LP4 - 8/10/2012, 8:11 AM
Jensen Ackles doesn't look the part at all but they can change him up a bit to look the part. He's a decent actor...he could pull it off maybe. Plus he is still "unknown" enough to be able to give the audience a fresh new look at IM.

The audience would hardly be able to judge the guy based on his resume.
LP4 - 8/10/2012, 8:12 AM
@RudDTC- My thoughts exactly plus he looks so much like Stark and he's great with action scenes.
hellfire - 8/10/2012, 8:13 AM
@CC Good for you, keep em comming.

After RDJ I can think of no one but Cruise. But i found this picture on google images. People also want Dylan McDermott for IM...interesting.

LP4 - 8/10/2012, 8:21 AM
@CC- Like I stated earlier, Cruise is...in a weird place right now. He has some problems but doesn't everyone? I seem to remember RDJ had drug issues and prison problems but he MADE HIS COMEBACK when he took on the role of Iron Man. Who knows, maybe it could do the same for Tom Cruise

;D
SimyJo - 8/10/2012, 8:23 AM
Irreplacable - even if you did CGI-scan him at Tony Stark's prime (AKA: now) - for future Iron Man CGI animations (final fantasy spirits within-style) -you'd still need his voice performance, which maybe he could still supply as he ages.

Buy yeah, RDJ IS Iron Man - As live-action film...Irreplacable.
LP4 - 8/10/2012, 8:29 AM
Jake Gyllenhaal is actually a pretty good/solid choice. Dylan would look the part though and seems more manly. I think my main issue with JG is he looks too baby-faced. Not a bad thing but...just not IM. I think Dylan could bring out the MAN in Iron Man =D
xcrementus - 8/10/2012, 8:30 AM
thx for the article JackyTimish...whoops, i meant UnknownHeroX...or whatever you're calling yourself these days.
RunDTC - 8/10/2012, 8:31 AM
what about Joseph Gordon-Levitt?
MrBlueSky - 8/10/2012, 8:32 AM
These suggestions are terrible all over. Are you on some sort of drug? And the only actor I can see replacing RDJ after he retires is Patrick Dempsey:

hellfire - 8/10/2012, 8:37 AM
I don't know why but I could see Dempsey more as Strange
LP4 - 8/10/2012, 8:39 AM
Or Dempsey could be Doom
CorndogBurglar - 8/10/2012, 8:41 AM
Are you being serious with these two articles, or are you just writing things that you know most will disagree with just to get a rise?

I mean lets face it, you can not be serious about Uwe Boll directing JLA.
MrBlueSky - 8/10/2012, 8:44 AM
Dempsey is too much of a pretty boy to play Strange. I admire his enthusiasm for the role, but I don't see him as Strange.
hellfire - 8/10/2012, 8:50 AM
I always thought that Strange was drawn as a good looking bloke

RunDTC - 8/10/2012, 8:54 AM
John Cusack as Strange is actually a good idea.
BooYah - 8/10/2012, 9:10 AM
I want Downey Jr to be in at least 2 more Avengers movie before he retires. That way I can have a trilogy with Downey as Tony Stark.
xcrementus - 8/10/2012, 9:13 AM
Re: Dempsey and Cusack are really expensive. Do you honestly see Marvel forking out for such a huge lead actor, on a property that isn't guaranteed to succeed?
Strange's books struggled. Even Defenders struggled.
I see more of an indie actor, surrounded by bigger names, like the other Marvel films.

I keep thinking Noah Taylor as Strange.
95 - 8/10/2012, 9:21 AM
Clark Gable! Oh, wait....
xcrementus - 8/10/2012, 9:42 AM
Downey is the linchpin, and he got next to nothing from his original Iron Man contracts.
Like i said, the LEAD is cheap (Downey, Hemsworth, Evans), and the people SURROUNDING the lead are expensive. Cast big for Mordo and Wong, and Clea and Dormammu, but Strange is cheap, in order to lock him in for other projects.
Regarding money to burn, a studio doesn't really think that way. They want the most bang for their buck, they're not gonna blow a wad on Strange.
superotherside - 8/10/2012, 11:38 AM
You guys are all wrong. Dominic Cooper was born to play this role. He would be met with good feelings from most fans, and he looks acts a lot like RDJ, yet he could put his own spin on him as well.
JokerFanHAhaHA - 8/10/2012, 11:41 AM
...CHARLIE DAY? Ed Helms?! These are some of the weirdest, nonsensicle choices I have ever seen.
Hellsing - 8/10/2012, 12:22 PM
Seriously people want Tom Cruise people are bitching about how RDJ's getting too old for the role now, so the best thing to do is get a guy thats actually older than the actor already playing the character makes perfect sense.

Go for an actor in his in the age category of 35-40 my pick would be Jensen Ackles, dudes a pretty amazing actor. go for an actor that doesn't have baggage with his name. But I would like to take this opportunity to point out the RDJ is what Christopher Reeve's was to Superman. The dudes portrayal is in my eyes iconic, even in the disappointing IM2 Downey still ruled as Tony Stark.
ThunderKat - 8/10/2012, 12:28 PM
Is it April 1st?

Bane2099 - 8/10/2012, 12:47 PM
When I saw the words " Ed Helms ", which would be the most out of place casting for Tony Stark ever, I didnt bother reading the rest of the article.

My casting choice: Jeffrey Dean Morgan

The one person I always thought that could have the look, charisma and wittiness for Stark, though sadly hes a bit up in age as well as RDJ.
marvel72 - 8/10/2012, 1:01 PM
dominic cooper he played howard stark in captain america the first avenger,he'd be my choice.
DaRaginScotsman - 8/10/2012, 1:38 PM
You know, Matthew McConaughey wouldn't be bad actually. But as for the rest, no offense, but those are some of the worst choices I've ever heard.

What do you think of these choices: Matt Bomer, Bradley Cooper, Josh Hartnett, Jon Hamm, Alex O'Loughlin.
calin88 - 8/10/2012, 2:08 PM
why would you need to replace him? his trilogy will be over next year, in another 3 he will have filmed avengers 2 and they don't need to use him in all Avengers films, and if they do, he's in a suit of armour, his phisical condition is irrelevant, he could be 80 and still wear it
ThunderKat - 8/10/2012, 11:23 PM
My point was those choices are preposterous.
xcrementus - 8/10/2012, 11:48 PM
Comic-Jacky-UnknownHeroX-Timish-Critic is preposterous.
johnblake - 8/11/2012, 4:18 AM
IM SORRRY BUT NO. NOT TODAY NOT TOMORROW NOT NEXT WEEK. NO. I AM THE BATMAN
marvelstudios - 8/11/2012, 8:56 AM
honestly id prefer if they killed of iron man and make way for another hero
CharlesTheIncredible - 8/11/2012, 1:37 PM
Im goin with Dominic Cooper to replace RDJ. he was perfect as Howard is CATFA. I could easily see them use him as RDJs replacement
LP4 - 8/12/2012, 12:39 AM
@Hellsing- I suggested Jensen Ackles on the first page in case you didn't notice SMH
JokerFanHAhaHA - 8/15/2012, 9:27 PM
