SMASHing the Justice League [Video Games]

SMASHing the Justice League [Video Games]

2013 looks to introduce another visually-impressive DC fighter in the style of Mortal Kombat, but is it good enough to be groud-breaking?

DC/WB and NetherRealm Studios have promised to bring us an epic fighting game next year called Injustice: Gods Among Us. I'm not pretending I didn't find it cool and exciting to look at, especially with Solomon Grundy's character design, but I find myself puzzled by the linear fighting system inherited from Mortal Kombat.

I think DC/Warner Bros can do better - they have done better, in fact, with Rocksteady, but the Arkham games are a completely different style of gameplay. Without side-tracking any further, here's the direction I suggest they take with a Justice League fighting game.

I'm not married to that roster, but the basic suggestion is that the game use a similar engine to Super Smash Bros, but with the Justice League, and with a more in-depth story.

Clearly, Super Smash Bros Melee has a ton of replay value, particularly in the multiplayer aspect. When I was in high school, a friend would bring his GameCube and we would go at it during lunch (we had an open lunch period, and some teachers were really cool with letting us use their rooms). The sheer amount of competitiveness was off the charts, and not owning a GameCube back then, I was a guaranteed loser.

What is immensely attractive is the environments and the freedom to move around places and use it to your advantage - Hyrule Temple being the prime example.

Another big attraction, which I somewhat alluded to was the cooperative/competitive gameplay known as Team Melee, allowing up to four players to play against each other either 2 vs 1, 3 vs 1, or good old-fashioned 2 vs 2.

I look at specs and test footage from "Injustice" and think that after 12 years of technical advancements, it will still be immensely inferior to Super Smash Bros Melee.

Imagine what DC/WB could do with the engine HAL Laboratory created.

Never been a fan of the smash bros games. The last Mortal Kombat is the the most fun ive ever had playing a fighting game. Seems like a much better match for DC to me.

I would play a DC super smash brothers style game. But there is no way in hell I would give up injustice for it. There is room for both even though a super smash brothers style game is technically a fighter, it woukd very different.

Like homeboy said, the last Mortal Kombat game was the fighter to come out in ages. If Injustice is even half as good as that, then it will be tits

You would really rather have a wii fighting game version of a dc title? You must be young, have you ever played any of the mk's? If not I think u need to do so ASAP

25, as my username suggests. Fighter games never interested me, and Smash Bros was introduced through friends. They gave me a controller and told me what buttons to push. I've watched people play MK, but again, no appeal to me.

Not asking, exclaiming, demanding, or even suggesting anyone give up Injustice for an idea of mine - it's being made regardless. I just think the fighting system needs to evolve.

You have characters designed with armor - the Flash has armor. Why? Because it is meant to suspend your disbelief enough that PERHAPS he could sustain some of Superman's punches. I think it is aesthetically ugly and a terrible equalizer. In a Smash Bros game, you would depend upon skill and tactics rather than endurance, and Flash would not wear his ugly (IMO) armor.

@ Jesse

The smash bros games are tons of fun with friends. Like Tainted, I would love a DC version. Or Marvel for that matter. But at the same time, like you, I would not give up Injustice for it. But again, they are both so different that there would be plenty of room for them both to exist.

@tainted,You just missed the fighting game craze five years older and when I was a kid we had fighting games come out every week. Mk being the best of them. the armor is optional, it was said that you get costume options like most fighting games.
@corn, Ive played it, didn't appeal to me. But your right they can both exist. I'm sure it sell like crazy to the younger crowd. To each there own
