USA Today revealed that a new five-issue crossover event from Geoff Johns will begin next year in Justice League #15 and continue in Aquaman.
The article also revealed that the Justice League is gaining two new members. The first comes as no surprise; after gaining his powers from the wizard, Shazam (Billy Batson) will join the ranks of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. The second, however, is a bit of a surprise. The Justice League's second new member will be THE ATOM. It's about time!
On the crossover event, Geoff Johns said the following:
"It's all about progressing the team and the members and the reality and the perception of what the Justice League is in the DC Universe."
"There's an inciting incident that triggers some tensions [between the heroes] but really it's about taking a hard look at what the power of Atlantis is."
"Aquaman's going to have to make some decisions that the League won't necessarily agree with."
"Mera has absolutely no affinity for Atlantis. She's from a penal colony and was raised to go to war with Atlantis and ultimately fell in love with Aquaman and defected like he did to the land."
"There's still questions of what Atlantis is like and what they do and what they're capable of and why they exist and who sank Atlantis. There's all this mythology behind Atlantis that were not really sure of and no one really has any answers, and we're about to get the answers."
Apparently, the conflict will be more a battle between Aquaman and Ocean Master than between Aquaman and the Justice League, despite what the teaser at the end of Justice League #12 may have led people to believe.
This event, along with "Trinity War" will begin next year. Looks like 2013 has some great things in store for DC lovers.
