COMICS: Earth 2's Last Amazon Revealed!

In Earth 2 #1, we saw the slaughter of DC's greatest heroes at the hands of Steppenwolf and the Parademons of Apocalypse, eventually leading to the creation of what will be the JSA. During the battle, Wonder Woman proclaimed that she was "the last Amazon." However, after the release of Earth 2 #1, writer James Robinson revealed that Wonder Woman was, in fact, NOT the last Amazon.

Speculation as to who the last Amazon is has been running rampant in fansite forums across the web. While we still don't know WHO she is, DC Comic blog has just given us our first look at her:



The cover is by Yildiray Cinar, who will be guest artist on the title for issues #7-8. Pictured behind "The Last Amazon" is Steppenwolf. In Earth 2 #0, it was revealed that there were eight original heroes of earth 2, but only seven were named. Many have speculated that the eight was Steppenwolf because Terry Sloan, or Mr. 8, said, "[There were} eight of us in total... one who I'll refrain from mentioning now (for reasons that all who know this world and this war will understand)." Perhaps this cover also confirms that the eighth hero was Steppenwolf.

If you love Earth 2, this will be big news for you. If you haven't been reading Earth 2, you definitely need to start. It is a great read (one of the best of the New 52 in my opinion) and it's completely self-contained and is only $2.99 a month.

Ares is such a weak god. Did you know he wouldn't even fight in Greek mythology? He would let his hounds feast on the half dead, and he would run the wounded through with his sword... after the battle.

With this Apokolips stuff, I'd expect some connection between Granny's Furies and the Amazons. Even money on Barda.

Wonder Woman of Earth 2 is not based on Greek Mythology...the amazonian deities were actually the Roman Gods...very similar but different in some ways...

In Greek Mythology Hermes was the ankle winged messenger of the gods...Roman mythoology it was Mercury (who is the god who gave Jay Garrick his powers)

I wish the DCU reboot had been done in this manner. Complete fresh start. I've been vocal about my feelings on Robinson's writing sucking in recent past (Cry for Justice was awful) but I will be equally vocal about how good his stuff is here. I've enjoyed every bit of Earth 2 so far and I actually think it's better than the Johns/Lee Justice League.
