Bu!

I am dropping this beef. My only complaint is you only included rottentomatoes scores. Not the many other sites where TDKR was ahead. Anyway its a New Year and I am done with this tired argument.
Durf - 12/31/2012, 8:57 PM
Nice list. I would tend to agree with those
marvel54 - 12/31/2012, 8:57 PM
the list is great
BIGBMH - 12/31/2012, 9:09 PM
@LEVITIKUZ, I didn't see Dredd. As for Skyfall and MIB3, I wouldn't classify those as superhero movies.

@edwardshiro, Aren't you delightful?

@batman1216, this isn't about any beef or argument. i'm stating my opinion. i even gave tdkr the win in 2 categories. to my knowledge, rottentomatoes is pretty much the go to for critical consensus. it pulls from more sources than metacritic and you can narrow it down to top critic.

@Durf6199 and marvel54, thanks for reading and commenting!

@JStark, I did have some difficulty with that one. I've got a lot of issues with the way Bane was used. His role as the movie's main villain was really undermined by Talia. Then he was killed off so unceremoniously. However, I feel like Tom Hardy was able to create a very memorable version of the character that made a pretty big impact. I liked Loki a lot and Hiddleston was great, but I don't think audiences responded to the character the same way.

Best Casting for Garfield?

But he was a horrible Peter Parker.

SAT - 12/31/2012, 10:12 PM
I totaly agree with all of your points! Great job!
TheFascinatingMan - 12/31/2012, 10:13 PM
I have to say, the chemistry between Garfield and Stone was incredible.
BIGBMH - 12/31/2012, 10:17 PM
@Acidic, I wouldn't say horrible. The problems with the depiction of Peter Parker came more from the script than from Garfield's acting. When he was doing the awkward side of Peter and the intelligent side of Peter, he did them well. Also, he was quite good once he put on the mask and was playing the Spider-man side of the role.

@SAT, Thanks!

@LoyalFan, Thanks for reading!
AmazingFantasy - 12/31/2012, 10:19 PM
@Acidic- He wasnt horrible, you have a terrible taste in actors...
GuardianDevil - 12/31/2012, 11:01 PM
I didn't mind Garfield as Parker, but old Toby did it the best IMO. Agreed on all points except the one about Garfield :)
BIGBMH - 12/31/2012, 11:14 PM
@Fenix122, Thanks for reading! I really like Tobey's performance in the first movie because you can see the growth of the character. However, Peter was depicted a little to whiny for my taste in both 2 and 3.
Jollem - 12/31/2012, 11:49 PM
nice list, i only got a couple differences. maybe throw a "best story/plot" in there?
marvel72 - 1/1/2013, 6:27 AM
i enjoyed dredd more than the dark knight rises & the amazing spider-man,don't get me wrong they both had their moments good & bad but to me the avengers & dredd were the two best comic book movies this year which also had good & bad moments but i think overall the avengers & dredd were better.

garfield was good as spidey but i think some scenes his parker came across as a bit of an arse hole towards his aunt & uncle.

best comic book movies of 2012

1st the avengers 4/5
2nd dredd 4/5
3rd the dark knight rises 2.5/5
4th the amazing spider-man 2.5/5
5th men in black 3 2.5/5
6th ghost rider spirit of vengeance 1/5
BIGBMH - 1/1/2013, 10:04 AM
@Jollem, Thanks. I was considering best plot, but I didn't really feel strongly enough about the plot of any of them to put it above the others.

@marvel72, I've been hearing a lot of good things about Dredd. I'll probably have to see it eventually. I realize it is based on a comic book, but for this list I kept it to movies based on what more people would consider to be superhero characters/stories. I didn't even bother with Ghost Rider because pretty much everything suggested that it was awful.
DrDoom - 1/1/2013, 11:37 AM
@KaineParker

Oh noez! Because I don't like one piss-poor actor who you happen to like I must have a terrible taste in actors.
DukeAcureds - 1/1/2013, 1:40 PM
Give the Big BH a break, this was obviously about the main three superhero events. His logic is perfectly sound. He used Rotten Tomatoes, because, love it or hate it, it's universally accepted. He did this instead of construing other statistics to suit his tastes. I have no idea if BigB has any particular personal bias on any of these films. I suspect Spidey is the man's first love out of the three, but I can't be sure because there is not a sign of any bias influencing his opinion.
Quite frankly, I don't want to inflate the young fellow's ego, in any way, but if you disagree with any of his opinions, here, then you are a complete moron.
And Fenix122@? If you think that Tobey was the best Spider-Man, then you must have been mostly introduced to the character through him. I thought he did very, very well under the circumstances, but it still stands in my mind as being a historically bad casting decision. Really, it's right up there with Kirsten Dunst as MJ. This is a shame, because the Raimi films had such unprecedented, leftfield triumphs in casting the main three villians.

Thanks for the comment, Duke! I did try to be objective here.
DukeAcureds - 1/1/2013, 2:04 PM
No problem, Biggie. Didn't mean to suck you off or nothing, but I stand by my comment.
BIGBMH - 1/1/2013, 3:07 PM
Haha! Thanks!
GoILL - 1/1/2013, 4:33 PM
Good stuff BIGBMH, can't say I have any problems with your choices.
ThunderKat - 1/1/2013, 5:31 PM
Good choices except Bane. That voice sounded like an electronically updated Bella Lugosi as Dracula. He was visually sinister, yet the weakness of the movie as a whole muted his level of evil.
BIGBMH - 1/1/2013, 6:26 PM
@GoILL, Thanks for reading!

@ThunderKat, I pretty much agree. I think Bane was quite memorable though.
GuardianDevil - 1/1/2013, 6:58 PM
@Duke
I was a Spidey fan before those rami films, but I thought the first two were really good. The third one was pretty bad. TASM was good, but I thought that "Spider-Man" and "Spider-Man 2" were better that's all.
BIGBMH - 1/7/2013, 1:21 PM
@brazilianbatman, you can't really get a number for critical consensus from imdb because their ratings are derived from users scores. metacritic doesn't pull from as many critics as rt, so it's kind of inferior for gauging consensus for movies. as for the "best of" lists, i feel like that is something worth noting but it's subject to a lot of bias. the same kind of bias that kept the dark knight from being nominated for best picture. tdk(94%) killed the reader(61%) and benjamin button(72%) on RT, but they were nominated for best picture in 2009. saying tdkr had better critical reception than avengers because of these lists is almost like saying those movies had better reception than tdk because they were best picture nominees. the avengers really isn't the type of movie critics would put on a best movies of the year list. however, when judging it objectively, they gave it pretty high praise.

when it comes down to it, rt is the most efficient way to get an objective look at what critics have said. in terms of ratings, tdkr was not higher there. both have an 8/10 overall. if you look at the top critics, tdkr does narrowly beat avengers in ratings (7.0 to 7.8.) however, avengers beats it in approval percentage (84 to 76). avengers has 1 fewer top critic review listed than tdkr, but 3 more positive reviews and 4 less negative. the most you can say is that more of the critics who liked tdkr seemed to like it a lot, but most of the evidence seems to suggest that critics as a whole are more in agreement that avengers is good.
