RISE OF THE GUARDIANS Coming To Blu-Ray This March

Dreamworks Animation's latest feature, which teams up various legendary fantasy characters, is confirmed for a March debut on Blu-Ray and DVD, just in time for Easter. Hit the jump for the (brief) list of bonus features, cover art and more details.

Despite receiving mostly positive reviews (the film currently has a 74% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 140 reviews), Dreamworks Animations' Rise Of The Guardians wasn't a big success at the box office. Grossing nearly $287M with a $145M budget, the studio is predicted to have lost a whopping $96M, making the chances of a sequel to the fantasy epic unlikely. Now, we have confirmation on when we can expect the film (which boasts an impressive voice cast including Hugh Jackman, Chris Pine and Alec Baldwin) to arrive on home video. Slated for a March 12th, 2013 debut on Blu-Ray and DVD, Rise Of The Guardians will be available just in time for Easter. Below are the bonus features and cover art for the release. Im definitely getting this. Sad it didnt perform better at the BO, but i was actually thrilled with this movie. Didnt expect to like it as much as i did. This thing was an A for me and had something for everyone

I thought it was alright. Descended into gloopy, schmaltzy all-we-need-are kids predictability.

You know, I'm a bit bamboozled with how some of you guys have, at times, referred to The Dark Knight Rises as overrated and "worst movie ever"...

And yet you let an OVERRATED, CHEESY, PLOTHOLE-FILLED piece of "meh" like Rise of the Guardians off the hook, in spite of the fact that, in terms of storytelling, it was a REAL example of a step back in terms of Dreamworks Animation storytelling.

Because this doesnt have any strict source material to go off of and it knew and embraced what it was, a mostly children's movie. TDKR was full of inexplicable plot holes that deemed it necessary for the audience to make farfethced assumptions on how they got from point A to point B. you gotta be a real tightass to not inderstand the difference between a dreamworks animated film and TDKR. Rises was also the end of a trilogy and it was a complete letdown to an otherwise good franchise, you're really making a bad blanket statement by comparin the two, damn i though the nolanites had dissipated for a while and we wouldnt have to hear their incessant whining anymore.

Oh, make no mistake, I am not a blind Nolanite. I acknowledge The Dark Knight Rises wasn't perfect, and it could've been better.

What I AM annoyed by is that a lot of people seemed to be giving this movie a blind pass, yet criticized The Dark Knight Rises for similar faults.

I'm not against people claiming that they disliked it, I just dislike when they seem to take the attitude that its "a piece of crap", when a) there is MUCH worse out there, b)calling this Nolan's worst movie is like calling it one of Hitchcock's worst or Kubrick's worst - it's still leagues above other movies!

That said, I didn't mean for it to come out as a blanket statement, and will try to be a bit more polite.

Well Batman has a huge following and the last installmentnwas just a big let down to most of that fan base, even people who arent fans didnt find it to be that great. Just wasnt the best conclusion. The rise of the guardians was based on fables and childrens folklore. Hard to let them down but this movie didnt have any plotholes i could find and it had awesome action, heartfelt emotional connections and nostalgia and great writing. This movie was all around great, i personally felt it was the best animated movie of 2012 and couldnt find any faults with it.

So I guess I must've made up the following in my head:

1. The Guardians are said to lose their powers once people stop believing in them. Ok, fine... then why the hell did Jack Frost have his freaking powers in the first place if no one believes in him????

2. Ignoring the above, how the hell do people lose faith in Santa when Christmas ended MONTHS PRIOR?!?

3. ...300 years? 300 [frick]ING YEARS??? You're telling me that for 300 YEARS, Jack never thought to bring up, "By the way, since you guys have magical powers and that stuff, can you help me get my memories back?"

4. Now, I'm not the most religious guy around BUT... the Easter bunny? Really? I know children are more knowledgeable about him, and its much less offensive that bringing in Jesus, but no reference to that whatsoever? (I like to pretend that this movie MIGHT take place in the South Park universe

I'll come back to these when I've got more time, but here are a few comments to make.

Chris Pine's a great actor, but his voice acting was absolutely mediocre in this movie; the scene at the end with the children gathering with the guardians was absolutely cliched; I'll give props to the action scenes, animation, and I absolutely loved Jude Law as the villain.

My conclusion:

The Dark Knight Rises had problems but ultimately worked as a whole (granted I'll need to watch it, and there are definitely problems).

Rise of the Guardians had aspects I liked, but as a whole... it's meh.

Feel free to bring up any rebuttals, because I'm open to debate.
