The cast of 20th Century Fox's Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes just became more impressive. After Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) were recently cast in the Matt Reeves-directed sequel to 2011's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Coming Soon reports that none other than Gary Oldman has been brought on board. The Dark Knight Rises star will be playing Dreyfuss, "the leader of a human colony" after the apes' takeover. The movie takes place 15 years after Rise, with one focus set on a small group of surviving scientists in San Francisco and the other on the ape civilization of Caesar (Andy Serkis). Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is set to hit theaters May 23rd, 2014. Oldman will also soon be seen in the RoboCop reboot, which opens February 7th. What do you think of this casting news?

Well, now we'll have good actors for both the apes and humans!

Once you have pretty much the best actor of our generation on board, you're pretty set.

1geekygurl - 2/28/2013, 4:02 PM
Are there no good roles out there for him?
SmellofDuty - 2/28/2013, 4:05 PM
Yes! The dynamic Gary Oldman will destroy this!
@Asterik, I would put Oldman second only to Daniel Day-Lewis.

sKeemAn - 2/28/2013, 4:32 PM
As much as I love Oldman. I'm starting to think its too many humans in this movie. There was 2 or 3 major roles in the first. Now everybody wants in. Dont let us down Reeves.
thorhulk77 - 2/28/2013, 4:33 PM
Oldman is in this? Definitely going to see this
LAXtremest - 2/28/2013, 4:47 PM

YES! Best news I heard all day! Just wish that Tim Burton was still directing, though.
TheGothamKnight1939 - 2/28/2013, 5:52 PM
Wasn't sure whether to see this before but...

sakibomb523 - 2/28/2013, 5:56 PM
Well hopefully his leadership doesn't end over the quest for a Bible.
Rowsdower - 2/28/2013, 7:14 PM
He should play the evil mutant leader.
ArmoredAsgardian - 2/28/2013, 8:04 PM
@OhThePurdue
Are you joking? I hope you're joking.
LAXtremest - 2/28/2013, 8:27 PM
Where was Nolan mentioned anywhere before you opened your trap? What does it have to do with Avengers? Did anyone mention Avengers? No, you're just trying to start the 4 billionth flame war on here.
OhThePurdue - 2/28/2013, 8:29 PM
Sure, Burton's movie had its flaws be he deserves a second chance. He's a brilliant director. I'm still stoked for this one, though.

Jollem - 2/28/2013, 10:10 PM
@LAXtremest - first, i never mentioned the nolan "enemy". second, what wonderer said. it was an obvious dig from the "other side", and i responded in kind. that's all. let it go, sir :)
ACira - 2/28/2013, 10:40 PM
My interest in this movie just skyrocketed. It's suddenly gone from 'meh, I'll probably watch this at some point' to 'I have to see this as soon as it's released'.

@SmellofDuty 100% agreed, I think the only person you could put Gary Oldman second to is Daniel Day-Lewis. Although, the great thing about Oldman is that he's a bit less picky with his roles, which means we get to see a lot more of him. That may sound like a bad thing, and he has been in bad movies in the past, but he's consistently excellent and is always enjoyable to watch, even in the few bad movies he's done.
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/1/2013, 12:12 AM
Wheres Oldman theres box office gold. :)
Spectre94 - 3/1/2013, 8:29 AM
Awesome, really liking the casting choices. Rise was unexpectedly good, and this one sounds like a really good follow-up. So if Rise was like "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" , will this one be like "Battle for the Planet of the Apes"?
BANEofExistence - 3/1/2013, 12:41 PM
I want a film with Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Michael Fassbender, Ralph Finnes, Gary Oldman and Charlize Theron! Director (Quentin Tarantino or Chris Nolan) Result- Greatest Film EVER! lol
