Hugh Jackman Announces Open Casting for Wolverine 2

While in Tokyo for the premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Jackman confirmed that the sequel will be set in Japan and said that the script was being worked on "right now."
Hugh Jackman dropped a tantalizing bombshell at the Japanese theatrical release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Tokyo that could indicate we will be seeing a sequel sooner than we think.

After driving into the premiere on a motorcyle--mirroring Logan's ride in the film--Jackman stood with Sato Ryuta, a famous Japanese actor and said:

"Hopefully, maybe a couple of years down the track, the next Wolverine movie we think will be set in Japan. I'm very excited and I'd like to invite you all to the audition. There are going to be many parts and we're writing the script right now ... and we'll let you know when we're ready to shoot."

It would be cool to meet Hugh, but sadly, I wouldn't go anywhere near another wolverine/x-men movie
supermarioworldE - 9/14/2009, 12:27 AM
Like the JAPANESE writing @ BRENT and cool!!!

Lets hope this is WOLVERINE 2 and not BORIGINS 2! ; D

SILVER SAMURAI and a SABRETOOTH cameo (Atleast) a must!!

Seriously though, FOX should be thinking up a SABRETOOTH movie with LIEV or is it LEIV? Anyway that would be the [frick]ing nuts!
LEEE777 - 9/14/2009, 12:31 AM
Please make it soon :)
CaptainAmerica - 9/14/2009, 12:43 AM
Bruce campbell for silver samurai! ;)

Is it going to be based on the frank miller japan series? Will he meet a rebooted mariko? Lets hope so!
wards - 9/14/2009, 12:50 AM
WARDS @ He's MYSTERIO lol!
LEEE777 - 9/14/2009, 12:54 AM
One thing that has always bugged me about Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is his height! Wolverine/Logan is listed at 5'3" whereas Hugh is 6'2". It just isn't right, tho Hugh has made Logan come alive. But Logan needs to be a short man and Hugh is starting to get long in the tooth.

But just look at Origins...it stank like rotting meat!!! I thought Liev was the only good thing about it! Hugh was way too over-dramatic in it!

I want Marvel to buy the rights back and make good accurate X-men movies and Wolverine movies! Wolverine in Japan should be an (R) movie! Someone else needs to be a more accurate and shorter Logan. Now these are reboots I would actually want to see!
DDD - 9/14/2009, 12:56 AM
As long as they stay off the mushrooms this time it has potential to be a great action movie...

lol
teabag - 9/14/2009, 12:57 AM
Leee, I really hope the mysterio rumour becomes reality! GROOVY!
wards - 9/14/2009, 12:58 AM
Yep plus, we don't want a X-MEN [frick]ing 90210 BORINS spin off!! original x-men only! Okay ive said this before heh heh, but we need the best, not just okay or nearly good, we want the BEST!

LMFAO @ TEA!!! HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHA!! : D

WARDS @ Heck yeah! If only its abit part, that'll be cool too, but BRUCE own's that part or would do lol!
LEEE777 - 9/14/2009, 12:59 AM

Heh heh! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/14/2009, 3:37 AM
Hey, @Leee, check out my new Fancast in Fanfic for the new X-FORCE, with Wolverine, X-23, etc.
DDD - 9/14/2009, 3:51 AM
DDD- In X-1 Singer filmed Jackman so he looked shorter then Cyclops who's height in real life is 5'11. I agree with you on the height, but Jackman is Wolverine. They just need to use the camera magic to shorten him up. I wish they would go for an R rating, or at least put out an unrated version when released on dvd and bluray, Wolverine was never meant to appeal to children, I want blood on the damn claws Fox, you hear me?????
ASSASSIN666 - 9/14/2009, 4:23 AM
Sigh, Fox will just screw this one up as well probably! :(
joshw24 - 9/14/2009, 4:41 AM
i actually liked origins and will be getting the two disc on tuesday. it was better than transformers and 80,000 times better than gi [frick]ing joe!!!!!!!
superdog - 9/14/2009, 6:59 AM
superdog- You're damn right, origins had it's problems, but was still Wolverine!!
ASSASSIN666 - 9/14/2009, 7:24 AM
I didn't hate Origins as much as many (apparently), so I have hope for the sequel. Especially, if it's going to be in Japan. Those were always some of my favorite Wolverine comics.
Bijous - 9/14/2009, 7:28 AM
@LiquidSnake: Old Man Logan is the bomb! I loved it!
Bijous - 9/14/2009, 7:29 AM
i checked out W:O it was ok not as horrible as X3! but it was still kinda crappy, i of course have at least 3 big thing in it i lothe, but my biggest complaint, well one of my biggest was HOOD. he may be good at small character piece films but this is WOLVERINE. get a better DIRECTOR for WOLVERINE 2 before you get a kick-ass writer
dellamorte1872 - 9/14/2009, 7:40 AM
They keep gettig these Oscar winning directors and think they are gonna make some great comic movie. They r two different types of movies and perspectives when it comes to movie making. Hood should stick to independant films and ang lee should stick to gay cowboys.
superdog - 9/14/2009, 7:54 AM
I just hope he doesn't do as much posing. I can't tell you how many times in "Wolverine" the camera cuts to Hugh coming out of a pose. It seriously looked like he'd been standing there waiting for the camera.

When you look at comic art it is easy to think that all the characters are posing for a "camera". I like to think the artist is capturing heroes in action. Showing us a glimpse of a character in natural motion.

They dont stand around with their legs spread and their fists out waiting for someone to acknowledge them.
Betty - 9/14/2009, 8:11 AM
Betty@ "They dont stand around with their legs spread and their fists out waiting for someone to acknowledge them."...............They do in my house..lol :P
teabag - 9/14/2009, 8:31 AM
Origins was pretty good...I wish they would have done more with Emma Frost, and what was up with her being Silverfox's sister?? Bring back Stamos as Mystique in Origins 2 and have her do a short cameo of his time in Mexico before he goes to Japan
Agent13 - 9/14/2009, 8:36 AM
DDD @ I did man!!!

An i told ppl to go and see your X-FORCE FAN CAST in FAN FIC in my article!

Awesome cast dude! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/14/2009, 8:55 AM
Blood on the claws f**kers, blood on the claws!!!!!
ASSASSIN666 - 9/14/2009, 8:58 AM
"There are going to be many parts" - Translates nicely into another overcrowded hash of underdeveloped characters. Thought the 1st was an enjoyable film but that's not enough for one of (if not THE) worlds favorite superhero.

"a couple of years down the track" - That's too far. Unless it's fast tracked and filming at the start of next year Hugh needs to wave good bye. He is looking too old for this role and a couple of years will spell a truly horrible performance. No amount of passion or talent will be able to cover how old he is for this.
Howlett04 - 9/14/2009, 9:11 AM
@teabag: Priceless!

@Agent13: Yeah, I hate when they mess up character relationships like that. I'm still pissed Emma Frost is Scott's girlfriend instead of the White Queen. They always ruin good villains by making them heroes: Rogue, Juggernaut, Mystique (for a time), Venom (for a time)...
Bijous - 9/14/2009, 9:11 AM
@Howlett: I disagree about Hugh's age being a factor. That dude was ripped up in XMOW! Besides, Logan is, like, 150 years old and there are stories that can be told at different periods of his life.
Bijous - 9/14/2009, 9:13 AM
teabag-- lol, you crazy!
Betty - 9/14/2009, 9:48 AM
DDD. I agree with you on the Hights. I fight with my friends all the time, telling them that he was Jackman was to tall for the roll and over over-dramatic.Liev Schreiber was DIFFERENTLY an improvement form the Xmens Victor Creed. But Origins had it good and bad moments. the end of the movie was HORRIBLE. I mean who's idea was it to give Dead Pool, all those powers, close his mouth and give him swords in his hands, WOW! I think Chris Benwa had the perfect built for Logan. With some acting lesson, I think he maybe could of pulled it off.
CrashTest - 9/14/2009, 10:30 AM
i think complaining about jackman's height is silly. he does a good job as wolvie.
CorndogBurglar - 9/14/2009, 11:01 AM
@ crash

there's the problem right there, you think a wrestler would have made a better wolverine than hugh jackman...let me guess, john cena should play cap, right?? lol kidding man
CorndogBurglar - 9/14/2009, 11:02 AM
Japanese cosplayers in Wolverine 2?
Brent Sprecher - 9/14/2009, 11:06 AM
@ brent

if the hand are in this, thats a good possibility!! at least the teenage mutant ninja turtles had an open casting call FOR MARTIAL ARTS EXPERTS! this sounds like they just want background people, lol.
CorndogBurglar - 9/14/2009, 11:13 AM
Bijous - I understand were you're coming from. Hugh was ripped in Origins. But, he was borderline "old man ripped" where the shape is there but so are the veins and leathery stretched skin. A few years down the line will have Hugh looking too old to fit into this storyline (imo).

If he is to carry on I would prefer an Apocalypse story line set in the future with the X-Men all but dead.
Howlett04 - 9/14/2009, 1:18 PM
@ howlett

yeah, apoc is more an xmen villain, than a wolvie villain. but they COULD do x-men: days of future past! wolvie is old in that! so good idea
CorndogBurglar - 9/14/2009, 1:45 PM
wolverine 2 should be animated
lowflams3137 - 9/14/2009, 3:58 PM
damn i wish i were asian, i could have the chance to be one of a hundred new cameos that we'll see in this movie!!!!

hahahahaha teabag
Duhdaduh - 9/14/2009, 4:23 PM
this movies gonna bomb, already talkin bout bein alot of roles, that was origins hole problem.
the hole movie would of been actually good if they had 4 guys tops. if the last fight was wolverine vs sabertooth and and deadpool i woulda been thrilled with that. as far as jackman goes i think he plays the part well i think u can tell he enjoys the role and i think thats the thing that keeps people from disliking him until they decide to do a complete reboot with wolverine i say let jackman finish his run with him
jimthefan - 9/14/2009, 5:25 PM
Yeah that explaines the pic up top,The cage spoiler!!!
Weiner123 - 9/14/2009, 6:42 PM
this movies gonna bomb hahaah thats so funny
Weiner123 - 9/14/2009, 6:45 PM
You guys think Ian McKellen was too tall for Gandalf, I mean what was he about 9' 4" lol... Or wait was it just that Ian Holm was 4' 1"? Like ASSASSIN666 said, forced perspective baby, forced perspective. And shit, Hugh's dedication to the role alone makes him pretty deserving of the part, let alone that he rocks it. And he is looking older in the interviews we see him in, but he works out for like a year when he's getting ready to film. Plus like Bijous says, just take advantage of the age factor - I'm not usually in favor of rushing movies, but I agree with some of you guys, if they fasttrack this one it could pay off - BECAUSE hopefully they learned from the shitty reviews and mistakes of the last one.

@ASSASSIN666 Hard R !%$?ers, Hard R *grin*

@Superdog I just think it's hit or miss man, granted so far the academy award winning directors haven't exactly blown us away, but I'll say it again and again until I'm out of breath and you guys want to kick me in the nuts, after TDK and Iron Man (and even Watchmen) I think those formulas will pave the way. I just think alot of directors didn't take the genre very seriously and/or have any idea what could be accomplished with this type of film.

Actually wasn't Borigins in production for like longer than TDK? or nearly as long I think, that's why they did the reshoots to try and "make it more realistic" lol...

So glad this site has it's own psychic named Weiner123, now I don't have to pay to know my future. With a name like that, how could you not know the future... I am so relieved =)
48and2 - 9/14/2009, 7:27 PM
btw Corndog, I'm thinking Sam Mendes might be the one to turn that streak around with Preacher, and show us how it's done Oscar style.

Last thing I have to say about the Wolverine sequel is that we GOTTA have the cameo from Liev, maybe with his hair grown out a bit - halfway to Tyler Maine style.

@Brent And Brent, what the hell you going to go audition for this? I thought you were already busy with Cap =P
48and2 - 9/14/2009, 7:36 PM
48and2 you gotta love those weiners man no you dont have too pay what do you wanna know, that youre older than me and that you liked tyler maine as sabertooth.
Weiner123 - 9/14/2009, 9:34 PM
haha come on, you're supposed to be a fortune teller and you didn't even understand what I said =P... or maybe it's just me. What I said partially and meant was Liev's look needs to be halfway in between Tyler Maine's. Maybe a mullet if you will - like he is growing into the haggard arctic ancient looking Sabretooth from the books.

You got me all wrong, I much prefer Triple X =) I think he should play The Riddler in Batman 3 ;)
48and2 - 9/14/2009, 9:49 PM
Anyways, I would love the opportunity to audition for the movie, I would be happy to be an extra even. Just have me walk in the background wearing my flash shirt. I think that would be pretty funny to see.
