Justice League Movie Moving Forward?

Described as Warner's new "tentpole" franchise, THR announces the title of the new Justice League film and the writers likely to be penning the script!

In an article primarily about Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes movie, THR reports:

"The studio is poised to bring on Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the scribes who are penning its Justice League: Mortal tentpole, to pen a draft of the new tale."

And, later in the same article:

"In addition to the ensemble superhero pic Justice League, the Mulroneys, repped by CAA and Management 360, wrote and directed Paper Man, the superhero-tinged dramedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Daniels that opened the Los Angeles Film Festival this year."

The way THR reports this news, you would think that perhaps they have some insider information telling them that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are still considering Justice League a "go."

With a title like "Mortal," somebody in the JL must be dyin'!
Bijous - 9/21/2009, 8:18 PM
it's just the agency trying to promote thier clients (the writers). That's probably the only thing they've written that anyone would be aware of.
superdog - 9/21/2009, 8:21 PM
bring it on!
SHHH - 9/21/2009, 8:25 PM
The original JL: Mortal had two Flashes Barry Allen and Wally West, so the safe assumption was Barry was toast.
nerosday - 9/21/2009, 8:27 PM
Fingers crossed they get it right! I hope to god they don't use that same cast though. That was one lame ass cast they had going.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/21/2009, 8:28 PM
you're telling me that WB is hiring writers to pen a horrible live action JL movie, and they wont even start production on the flash?

Im really getting tired of WB's bullsh*t
supermarioworldE - 9/21/2009, 8:35 PM
come on man. come back with some real news about the movie. it might still get made? pff
grif - 9/21/2009, 8:36 PM

access - 9/21/2009, 8:38 PM
Yeah, they really should make the solo films of JL members and then focus on a JL movie, like what Marvel is doing.

Superman reboot, Flash, and Wonder Woman are top priority before a JL movie.

They already have Green Lantern going forward, so that's one less member to deal with.

Aquaman, I don't know if they should make a movie about him, but I suppose I wouldn't be against it per say.

Martian Manhunter does not need a movie, that I am certain about.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 9/21/2009, 8:40 PM
anyone who actually thinks this movie will ever get made is amusingly delusional.
InFamouslyCool - 9/21/2009, 8:40 PM
Superdog is right, they are just trying to sell their clients.
CaptainAmerica - 9/21/2009, 8:41 PM
this movie is further along than halo apparently.
i hope they do some serious rewriting, recasting, and please for the love of all that is holy: DO NOT LET GEORGE MILLER DIRECT!!!!!!!!
i liked him for happy feet, but!
food for thought: he approved of not nly the script and title, but the cast!
a while back, i thought that dc would try the marvel approach: origins first, then the team-up.
i hope that they will follow in marvel's footsteps!
Wadey09 - 9/21/2009, 9:05 PM
it shud be a realistic superhero movie, like nolan's batman. having fictional characters deal with modern day issues...
kyle dalton - 9/21/2009, 9:07 PM
At this point, the Justice League movie is dead. Hollywood Reporter should have noted the writers' involvement in the past tense. Especially now with the creation of DC Entertainment and the statement from the studio that a new slate of projects will be announced in early 2010. Warners ultimately decided that they needed to launch films focusing on their individual characters rather than introduce them as part of a group.
EdGross - 9/21/2009, 9:23 PM
I'd kill a man for a Klondike bar. Do the movie.
Number21 - 9/21/2009, 9:27 PM
Ed's right, I think they know that a justice league movie out of the blue is a no go if they don't establish the characters first. we won't be seeing a JL movie for at least another ten years.
thwhtGuardian - 9/21/2009, 9:28 PM
I hope it isn't them just trying to sell their clients and this has some legs... They did X-men without Origins ...

thegreek - 9/21/2009, 9:31 PM
I love DC. I love its heroes. But DC/WB combined cannot seem to get their shit together. I don't know why. I wish I knew, bad communication, inability to share ideas effectively, too much studio involvement... I don't know. But somewhere the train has completely come off the tracks and after ten years of CBM madness they have only delivered four movies, two of which featured its title character in name only (Superman Returns & Catwoman)in the past they have optioned films to idiot producers allowing them to run rampant over the mythos, and idiot directors to nipplefy costumes, and create noncannon bastard children. What the hell is going on over there, seriously? Aside from Bats and hopefully Green Lantern they seem to be utterly clueless as to how to even make a CBM. I am getting highly aggravated with the whole damn mess. The more I see of their attempts at bringing their universe to the screen the more I'm begining to think the Nolan bat films were just a wonderful fluke or a happy accident.
nerosday - 9/21/2009, 9:31 PM
What I don't get is why they're trying to put a Justice League movie out there when basically NONE of the DC characters have been introduced through movies. That's like saying there's going to be a Avengers movie without making a Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain American movie.

DC basically has Batman and a future Green Lantern. No they don't have Superman because the old movies are old and Superman Returns does not count. Get at least a Wonder Woman and Flash movie in the works THEN worry about a Justice League movie. They're so stupid.

I agree with Neroday. Half of the Marvel characters have their own movie, regardless if its bad or good they have one. Why is it so hard for DC to do the same? The only creative reason I would find it harder is because DC characters are lighter, Marvel is darker. But that's a tiny problem.
Gigacrusher45 - 9/21/2009, 9:32 PM
Lets just bring back the Justice League animated series. God I loved that cartoon. DC is making leaps and bounds with its animated movies, why not bring back another animated series of the same caliber?
MidKnight35 - 9/21/2009, 9:33 PM
If Only the Live Action Superman was as good as what I saw in Doomsday...

They should get the Batman TDK director to direct the WHole Justice League Movie.
NubaX - 9/21/2009, 9:37 PM
meh superman doomsday wasn't that great, it made me sad inside. I'd almost say that superman returns was better just because atleast it wasn't butchering a great story, it just had a lame one of its own.
thwhtGuardian - 9/21/2009, 9:43 PM
Nolan Batman dies off in this, they bring him back in Batman Beyond with Sylvester Stallone and Joel Shumacher directing.
48and2 - 9/21/2009, 10:02 PM
Like i said before ....... X-MEN ... Didn't have individual movies...
thegreek - 9/21/2009, 10:07 PM
But the X-Men with the exception of Wolvirine don't have their own books. Superman, Batman, et al all carry their own full time books. Those characters deserve their own personal intro and stories.
nerosday - 9/21/2009, 10:12 PM
Agreed Nerosday!

If they piss on Flash , especially Barry Allen, with a premature ejaculation team-up, I will be pissed!
Phinehas - 9/21/2009, 10:57 PM
Just read the article. EdGross is right. It was a poorly written article that seemed to have put them in the present tense. No JLA, yet. Whew!
Phinehas - 9/21/2009, 11:07 PM
More than just not having their own own books xmen is about a team of heroes who act as one while justice league is and always has been about a bunch of singular heroes who have banded together to face a foe greater than any one of them. It's a completely different dynamic and cannot be approached in the same way.
thwhtGuardian - 9/21/2009, 11:13 PM
I think a Justice League movie will be made, but not before WB sees if an Avengers movie is a massive hit. If it is and they make money even with the huge cost of the cast then it will get made with the big names. If it does decent but not on an epic level, then a JL movie will probably get made but not with the big names
Cape - 9/21/2009, 11:15 PM
Cape, they don't have to wait for Avengers. The very subject people are talking about is Xmen. Its a team-up movie. They already have examples to judge by. But the difference that fans want, opposed to a team-up that introduces them, is their favorite hero (Mine is...Hint hint) in the fray with other heroes that you build an ethos for from their individual films. Team up movies work. Fantastic Four was corny, but we know the right script, direction, etc, it would have been great!
Phinehas - 9/21/2009, 11:22 PM
I love that video!!! love it love it love it! but hell i am a surrealist on the path of evolution
shibazz - 9/22/2009, 12:47 AM
Damn, u disappear for abit an bang loads of news lol!

: D

Cool news, but nothings changed, on off on off ete etc, they will make this after they've done a few DC solo movies first, just like WB coff i mean DC Entertainment originally planned lol, nothings changed!

Im sure they just said everything was off just to put it back on again when they made up DC ENTERTAINMENT heh heh, just to look better than they really are! ; )
LEEE777 - 9/22/2009, 3:59 AM
SO are they making it or not...im confused :)
teabag - 9/22/2009, 4:53 AM
this better be a step up to the process on the movie. and hopefully they're really really looking forward for this movie to happen. btw just wanna let you all know-
@LEE777@ including you lee;) lol... that i'm working on a mission impossible tribute movie video. but i want you to know that i'm still gradually working on the independent comics movie tribute as well...if you know what i mean. heh heh.
video prototype - 9/22/2009, 5:25 AM
Good.
Bandrews1 - 9/22/2009, 6:04 AM
JL: mortal has been on imdb for a long time. the synopsis says that batman has been kicked out of the justice league and superman is dead. so its about the rest of the team trying to make due without them. it sounds pretty lame if thats what they are sticking to
CorndogBurglar - 9/22/2009, 6:25 AM
PROTO @ Cool man! Looking forward to it!!! ; )

TEA @ Who knows lol!!

Corndog @ Half of what's up on new stuff concerning imdb, is BS!!!

They just add friggin' rumors or word of mouth or even their own fantasties to that site lol! : D
LEEE777 - 9/22/2009, 6:47 AM
Corndog: I have to respectfully disagree. I'd actually rather see a Justice League movie WITHOUT Superman or Batman, or where they were only supporting players if they do. Those two have had plenty of movies and TV shows, not to mention books. Besides, then we get into all kinds of crap about who plays them. A huge can of worms that can easily be avoided!

I don't want this to be like the X-Men movies, which boiled down to Wolverine and some bit players. Let's feature some of the other great DC heroes and give them their chance to shine. Many of the best episodes of JLU did just that. I'm willing to give the writers a chance to see what they have in mind for this story before passing judgment.
comicb00kguy - 9/22/2009, 7:47 AM
Yeah it doesnt need supes or bats realy....Martian Manhunter , GL , Flash , Blackbird , Aquaman...they will do :)
teabag - 9/22/2009, 8:12 AM
Routh for superman. It would be difficult to attract lots of household names to thid film (as the avengers is finding out with Norton), but Routh is still little known enough to get in on it, plus they could get away without doing an individual film for him, as he is already known as superman and everyone knows superman's backstory by now. Green Lantern would be in with his film coming up, and wonder woman should be there too, provided she gets a film, as well as the flash. Martian Manhunter, Aquaman or Green Arrow could be put in without backstory movies, maybe with cameos in other films ala iron man in the hulk, if that isn't too copycat-ish. Warner Brothers only needs to look at the hype already surrounding the avengers (a movie not even set to come out for another three years!) and its character movies to see that making the back story films first is the way to go :)
samd577 - 9/22/2009, 8:33 AM
Please give us all the individual stories and then lead up to a huge and epic JLA movie. Pleaaaaaassssseeeeeee.
spideysweb - 9/22/2009, 9:05 AM
Exactly @ SPIDEY @ that's what we want! ; )

An they should stick to it!

TheGreek @ Lmao man!!! : D
LEEE777 - 9/22/2009, 9:22 AM
Warner definitely should go for the individual stories first. Its the best way to give each individual league member their deserved screen time 'cos by the time we get an epic JLA movie, each character would have to share screen time with the others. And who knows who the film makers are going to decide to give the most screen time to. It would be a shame if Superman and Batman dominated much of the screen time and others like Martian Manhunter or Green Arrow get less screen time.
6of13 - 9/22/2009, 10:11 AM
A Martian Manhunter movie just has to be done.
6of13 - 9/22/2009, 10:13 AM
For a JLA Movie to be a success!! the solo movies must come first!
BigNick - 9/22/2009, 10:29 AM
@ comicbookguy

i understand where your coming from, man. i'm not much of a DC fan though, so its hard for me to imagine a justice league movie without the trinity. even though i love the flash, GL, and Martian Manhunter, i still don't know much about them. i would like to see DC pull a Marvel, and make movies for the 5 core members (other than the trinity), then do a JL movie, because i just don't know enough about them.
CorndogBurglar - 9/22/2009, 11:02 AM
How about an avengers movie without Captain America, Ironman and Thor?!?!?!? Sure it CAN be done, it just WON'T be watched!!!
Shaman - 9/22/2009, 11:33 AM
Hey! Where's Plastic Man?!

hahahahhahahah

Anyway, does the Superman litigation affect this in any way? Not sure if anyone mentioned that, but it's worth noting.

On a personal note: Any JL movie made without any of the founding members is bullshit, and in turn, not worth making.
BillyBlack - 9/22/2009, 1:06 PM
If they made it, it'd be worth boycotting. And anyone cast as Plastic Man will die before getting the chance to suit up. One after the other. People will think it's a curse... *cue weird music, evil laughter and me rubbing hands*
Shaman - 9/22/2009, 1:15 PM

Mmmmmmm YEESS! YEEEEESS!!

(twisting edge of moustache)
BillyBlack - 9/22/2009, 2:42 PM
comicb00kguy - You're talking my language! Supes and Bats would just take the focus off of lesser characters who need the spotlight much more badly! I wouldn't mind if they joined up later on, but they should NOT be the two main charcters!! Satellite era JLA all the way, baby!!

thegreek - PLEASE read more comics! The X-Men were always a team, not a cast of mutants with individual books that came together! Same goes for the F.F.!

BillyBlack - Please tell me you're kidding! You're sounding like Alex Ross! The Elongated Man belongs in the JLA; Plastic Man was added MUCH later by Grant Morrison in '97! C'mon, man! We want the classic roster!

teabag - Blackbird? Don't you mean Black Canary?

shaman - Avengers can be done with ONE of the "big three" missing - usually Thor! It's been done in the comics plenty of times and has worked perfectly! Besides, the Avengers team dynamic differs from the JLA makeup.
JonF - 9/22/2009, 4:31 PM
bats will never be in it....there for, its probably going too blow,....i want it just as bad as anyone, but lets face it,kind of like the failed sitcom..P.U.!!!!!!
ProfOJ - 9/22/2009, 4:44 PM
plus, who corrects people? this is fun not a homework assighnment,......awful jackass!!!!!!
ProfOJ - 9/22/2009, 4:50 PM
JonF

I guess you missed the hahahhahahahah portion of the post.

At a minimum, it should be Supes, Batman, GL, Wonder Woman, Flash, Jon Jonz and one of the Hawks (girl or man, preferably girl)
BillyBlack - 9/22/2009, 4:59 PM
BillyBlack - No I just wanted to be sure! You never know on this site!! And it's Aquaman's time to shine! He's only a reboot away from being a major force! Imagine if he could mystically control every drop of water on earth?

profOJ - you misspelled assignment...just kidding ;-)
JonF - 9/22/2009, 5:29 PM
ahhahahahhahh

good one JonF ^_^

very true.

I think they gave Aquaman all the attention he needed on Entourage... just kidding.

I could def see him getting the shaft, or a majorly trimmed down role for a JL movie though.
BillyBlack - 9/22/2009, 5:42 PM
finally a jla movie i dnt CARE HOW THEY DO THE MOVIE I JUST WANT TO SEE A MOVIE ABOUT THIS
flames809 - 9/22/2009, 5:43 PM
@JonF - and Everyone else- I was only saying they CAN make it ... not saying they should... I agree with the individual movies to lead up ... I was only proposing that it can be made... I also do believe every kid has seen the JL cartoon as well so they know the charaters and there powers...

@ ProfOJ - Thank you sir...

I KNOW THIS WAS DEF IN THE COMICS... right JonF

thegreek - 9/22/2009, 10:07 PM
i say leave Aquaman out of the movie hes useless and they don`t need to ruin what could be a good movie
clarkkent007 - 9/22/2009, 10:44 PM
Aquaman would be pretty cool if they did the whole King of Atlantis angle. Not the hokey, save the whales and environment part. People have too much of that shoveled down their throats as it is. I know that it would be pretty stupid not to include some of that, but not dominate the whole.
In fact, I think a crossover with his Grecian Atlantis world and Wonder Woman's would be very cool! That would stimulate more excitement for an eventual team up. Remember, the oceans are his domain, and the oceans cover 2/3's of the Earth. And I'm not even a remote fan. I just have to give credit and propriety where its due!
Phinehas - 9/23/2009, 1:11 AM
Maybe D.C should just wait and see how Marvel does with Avengers. Maybe they can either learn a thing or two, or possibly what not to do. Justice League will not be an easy movie to make when one of the main characters can't even get his own movie made. Warner Bros suck!!!!
ASSASSIN666 - 9/23/2009, 1:20 AM
I've always hated Aquaman. He is the only character lame enough to ever make a Spock looking fag in a speedo more appealing than himself. HOWEVER... he does have a chance to right all that ever so wrong! All we need is a STELLAR actor we haven't seen much of that MOST of us appreciate! And to me, the only one that could ever make Aquaman somewhat "cool" is Michael Fassbender!!! He is on my Sketch Cast list!!! Just keep DiCraprio the [frick] away for the role! He can produce if he wants but THAT'S IT!!!
Shaman - 9/23/2009, 6:29 AM
Well I was against this originally, making a Justice League movie before individual characters movies but the amount of time it is taking DC to make individual movies, it might be better to make an ensemble movie first and then make individual movies out of the superheroes that the public likes the most after watching them in the Justice League movie. Then there is less chance of individual movies failing. Plus it means DC wouldnt look like they were copying Marvel's movie strategy. But I really want to see them include the Nolan universe Batman in the Justice League movie so it is a more realistic Batman included and not a camp Batman but they can get a new actor to portray Batman who can portray Batman in both Justice League and a potential Batman 4, 5 and 6 under a new director after (hopefully) Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale make a third Batman movie
dancingmonkey08 - 9/23/2009, 10:32 AM
There better be a Black Canary!
NataliaRomanov - 9/23/2009, 10:38 AM
Natalia, She wasn't a founding memeber of JLA. I would include her in a third or fourth sequel.

Shaman, the treatment given him in JL TAS is more of what I had in mind. Thoughts?

The sound is not good on the last one.
Phinehas - 9/23/2009, 1:16 PM
Phinehas- In the JL cartoon ... they made him bad ass... I remember seeing that ep... Of him cutting off his hand...
thegreek - 9/23/2009, 2:31 PM
Aquaman needs to be powered up; that's the problem:no one ever writes him that way!! How did Tempest(Aqualad) wind up with better powers than Aquaman?! Every water-based super powered character you can think of has cool powers EXCEPT for Aquaman! As a founding member of the JLA, he deserves more respect!

Phinehas - I've had that idea for years! Why doesn't DC ever think to connect Aquaman to Poseidon/Neptune as Hercules is to Zeus; Thor is to Odin; and Captain Marvel is to Shazam?! Arthur's got the potential! I want to see him done right!
JonF - 9/23/2009, 2:58 PM
I know, right? I haven't read one Aquaman comic in my whole life(i don't think). I think my exposure has only been relegated to cartoons and crossovers like the recent Blackest Night arcs. So, I only know as much as the next guy. Which is why I am no fan myself. But whether people like it or not, he's a founding member. And I feel weird defending him because I am no fan. Just like a previous president, i hear lies and distortions that are clearly untrue and when I speak up, "hey, thats not true"! Immediately, I'm labeled a neocon! So I spend the rest of the time untying knots. I am not an Aquaman fan. But if were to be like the JL TAS version, I think I could grow to be one.

Additionally, in the Justice League video game that came out about three years ago, his character had some pretty cool abilities! But not the commonly known underoos version!

Phinehas - 9/23/2009, 5:22 PM
