No Bill Murray in Ghostbusters 3?!?

The legendary comedian says that he won't "make one just to make another one."
It appears that announcements of a third film in the Ghostbusters franchise have been premature. This summer there have been a number of related news items regarding Ghostbusters 3 and "retro" Ghostbusters t-shirts have been popping up on television and in the streets. However, according to actor Bill Murray, there is no Ghostbusters 3 yet. He told the UK's Absolute Radio:

"Well, I don't know. I'll believe it when I see it...I don't want to do it yet. There's still no script. It's just a bunch of talk. It's just a wish list for someone. Until there's a really good script, I'll stay home and play snooker, or whatever you [British] do. It has to be a serious script before I'll leave the house.

"It's gotta be really good, you know? I'm not going to make one just to make another one...you gotta be really fierce about it."

can't blame him. Glad to see some people still have integrity....

No to ghostbusters 3. It'll be a disaster. They waited too long, and besides, the first two were good by themselves. Didn't they see what happened with the terminator franchise? It was fine with two movies, and then boom, a third movie comes along and disgraces the whole franchise. Remember the franchise formula, kids:

1) The first film is perfect. It does not need a sequel.

2) A sequel arrives and we are completely blown away. The film sets itself up for a third movie, which we believe will be the best one yet.

3) The third film comes out either too quickly, or too late. The movie has bad scripting. The major characters are killed off or worse. Fans become disappointed and try to forget about the franchise.

and sometimes, 4) A fourth film is made a long time after the third, in an attempt from the studio, to make you forget about the previous movie's mistakes. The fourth entry tries to ensure you that it's better than the last, but ultimately fails, because after so long, it's lost the feel of the movies that came before it

I wish more actors felt that way instead of just cashing a paycheck for the hell of it.
ASSASSIN666 - 10/15/2009, 9:41 AM
Wheh! You scared me for a minute there! I thought they were making one without him, but he's just waiting for a good reason to make it, which is great!
Bijous - 10/15/2009, 9:44 AM
He's been saying this since GHOSTBUSTERS 2!

Though it would be nice of a CAMEO and a nod to all the fans that made him Famous even IF he decided not to do GB3!! ; )
LEEE777 - 10/15/2009, 9:44 AM
I loved it when he got shot in ZombieLand. Anyway I'm cool with it. I don't want to see another one if the story looks like crap. He knows what he's talking about. BTW Bill there was nothing wrong with Garfield.
StrangemannX09 - 10/15/2009, 9:46 AM
GARFIELD was a laugh lol!
LEEE777 - 10/15/2009, 9:48 AM
play snooker aha that guy cracks me up... @leee777 whats the vote avatar for ?
barryh314 - 10/15/2009, 9:48 AM
"I'm not going to make one just to make another one." [frick]ing perfect! Bill Murray's the man!

BmanHall - 10/15/2009, 9:52 AM
I would hardly say "No Bill Murray in Ghostbusters 3" since, in all reality, there is no Ghostbusters 3 to speak of. But the fact that he won't do it is certainly something.
slimybug - 10/15/2009, 9:57 AM
Hell yeah! Give us a great story or no story!
Spilox - 10/15/2009, 9:58 AM
YOU SAID IT BILL, THE GUY KNOWS HIS SHET.
GUNSMITH - 10/15/2009, 10:08 AM
I would boycott Ghostbuster 3 if Bill wasn't in it.
Shaman - 10/15/2009, 10:17 AM
You guys see Zombieland yet?
Brent Sprecher - 10/15/2009, 10:28 AM
Hell, yeah! Awesome cameo! Those paintings...
Bijous - 10/15/2009, 10:30 AM
This doesn't mean anything. There IS a script, Reitman, Ramis and Aykroyd have confirmed they've seen/read it. Good things are being said about this draft.

Bill has said he'd do Ghostbusters 3. ONLY IF THE SCRIPT IS GOOD. And that's how EVERYONE feels, not just him. They want to do it justice.
1Rocketeer - 10/15/2009, 10:41 AM
Then why the hell haven't those guys contacted Bill in the first place if their script is so good???
Shaman - 10/15/2009, 10:44 AM
I thought that they'd get the old Ghostbusters to get some new ones and train em'
MrAnonymous - 10/15/2009, 10:59 AM
if only Brian Synger or who ever directed 1,2, and 3 of the x-men films, and well Gavin Hood knew this!
gambitfreak - 10/15/2009, 11:03 AM
I can understand this: Murray's grown as an actor, and if Ackroyd wrote the script it was most likely horrible. (That was the rumor about the last script Ackroyd floated for it, and historically, that guy writes horribly unfunny movies.)

If Ramis handles the screenwriting chores it could turn out okay an I'll be looking forward to it.
Velox - 10/15/2009, 11:09 AM
Here's the history of Ghostbusters III so far:

2/09: Dan Aykroyd announced that production on a third film could begin as early as "late fall 2009."

6/09: Harold Ramis said that he was "working on a story for the sequel" but that he didn't think that director Ivan Reitman was interested.

6/09: Ivan Reitman responded that he had "never ruled out" returning for another Ghostbusters.

Brent Sprecher - 10/15/2009, 11:16 AM
Bill's a good man, here's hoping the script is good so he comes back.
Also here's hoping there is no new class of ghost busters, I want the originals 100%
thwhtGuardian - 10/15/2009, 11:33 AM
He has already said he would do it if he thought the story is good effort.

The only news in this is that there still isn't a good script written yet.
SoulAllFlush - 10/15/2009, 11:37 AM
@Shaman, the new script hasn't even been out for that long, Murray's been busy with premieres such as this, and he isn't even one of the guy's involved with the script. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis are though.

I believe that Murray here's just out of the loop.
1Rocketeer - 10/15/2009, 11:52 AM
What really boggles my mind is how the [frick] could Ackroyd & Ramis get together to write the script without the input of Murray in the fist place when they know full well that he's the one that made both movies good to begin with??? It would be like making a sequel to Uncle Buck without John Candy!!! Uh Hollywood... wait, WAIT!!! NO!!! You didn't hear that from me!!! Don't write the script!!! No, don't make it!!! GODDAMN YOUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!! *shales fists in the air*
Shaman - 10/15/2009, 11:55 AM
why didnt he have this same standard for ghostbusters 2.
superdog - 10/15/2009, 12:01 PM
@ shaman- they didn't write this script draft, award-winning writers from The Office did. Possibly because they wanted someone with fresh ideas who could make a new concept while making a movie that is still "ghostbusterish".

@superdog- the sad thing is that they pulled all the stuff outta the GB2 script that he liked at first once it came time to shoot. Tricky bastards.
1Rocketeer - 10/15/2009, 12:04 PM
way to be bill!
fotc - 10/15/2009, 12:13 PM
We have to be patient & wait it out, but no ghostbuster without the originals & maybe some new blood, they could retire!
Spock - 10/15/2009, 12:17 PM
1Rocketeer- Huh... well that writing team sounds good to me. Hopefully it's just that Bill hasn't recieved a copy yet. Cause if he read it and is just simply saying that "there isn't one" in hiding his true feelings about the script, that would suck.
Shaman - 10/15/2009, 12:50 PM
So he'll show up in Zombieland with a direct reference to himself and ghostbusters, but he won't be in the real thing?

What's he got going on? playing another tree in Get Smart 2?
RemiMartini - 10/15/2009, 12:50 PM
Damn straight Bill Murray, I loved him in Ghostbusters 1 & 2, Groundhog Day and Scrooged

And for Ghostbusters 3, they should have the old Ghostbusters realising they are too old for the job and have to train a new group of Ghostbusters but the new Ghostbusters should have a very small role that sets them up for a future movies where the younger Ghostbusters take over. A Ghostbusters 3 should primarly focus on the original Ghostbusters and it really needs to have the quality of the original movie even though I did like Ghostbusters 2
dancingmonkey08 - 10/15/2009, 12:54 PM
-"You have any regrets"

-"Idont know,maybe Garfield"

ZOMBIELAND WAS KICKASS cant wait for sequel
InSpace - 10/15/2009, 12:58 PM
Bill was the only thing that didn't suck about Garfield. The CGI animated films are better than both live action!
Shaman - 10/15/2009, 1:11 PM
What's snooker?
Betty - 10/15/2009, 1:16 PM
I miss Bill.
THEHAWK - 10/15/2009, 1:21 PM
@ InSpace: Hell yeah! Zombieland was awesome!
BmanHall - 10/15/2009, 1:29 PM
BmanHall@Yeah wasnt it cant wait till it comes out on Blu-Ray
which could be in a few months
InSpace - 10/15/2009, 1:36 PM
Zombielands my new fav. Its all about the cardio! Good for Bill, maybe this will force them to make a good script.
antz1104 - 10/15/2009, 1:45 PM
antz1104@Yeah like Tahllase says"You got to enjoy the little things"

Now I'm off to play Brutal Legend on Ps3

Peace Out
InSpace - 10/15/2009, 1:49 PM
As of October 9th Ramis has said that he was waiting to see the first draft of the script so I think you might be mistaken about him seeing it Rocketeer.
thwhtGuardian - 10/15/2009, 1:52 PM
it will fail without him.
grif - 10/15/2009, 2:16 PM
I can't see the Ghostbusters without Bill Murray!!!
legder20 - 10/15/2009, 2:27 PM
it would, he was great.
Although, as much as I love Bill Murray, I've always wondered what Jon Belushi could of done with the role as it was originally written for him.
thwhtGuardian - 10/15/2009, 2:31 PM
speaking of Belushi and what could've been, you guys should read up on the ORIGINAL idea Aykroyd was tossing around for the first Ghostbusters film. Just him and Belushi time travelling, fighting evildoers, and no cool proton packs. they had wands in their hands and funky helmets haha.
1Rocketeer - 10/15/2009, 3:04 PM
Sticking it!
TaffetaDarling - 10/15/2009, 4:24 PM
I don't like the sound of this.
Bandrews1 - 10/15/2009, 6:58 PM
Awww....

Query: How did all the stores get the "offical" Ghostbusters shirts if the movie was not confirmed?
Fartman - 10/15/2009, 7:51 PM
Bill Murray is a man-whore. He will do anything for money.
Number21 - 10/15/2009, 8:10 PM
In the 80's he may have been 21, but lately he see's himself as legitimate actor. Whether he is is up to debate, but it has to be said he's hardly acting for the check or else he'd be doing alot more movies. He acts in projects he likes these days, not based on the check.
thwhtGuardian - 10/15/2009, 8:20 PM
Oh well! If it happens it happens. I still have the first two on DVD when I need a Ghostbusters fix.
icebergslick - 10/15/2009, 9:16 PM
I read somewhere that he doesn't even have an agent. He said scripts just 'come to him somehow'. That could explain how some of his choices might seem questionable, but I think he's got pretty good instincts.
Velox - 10/15/2009, 10:41 PM
why wasn't he this picky for his role on Get Smart?
ewoksoup - 10/15/2009, 10:42 PM
His role on Get Smart was amazing!!! It was MADE for Bill! It's his style. I would have been dissapointed if he was anything but a tree in that movie! LOL :P

Sorry guys, i just love the hell out of that movie! Can't wait for the sequel and finaly get plenty of Warburton as Hymie!!!
Shaman - 10/16/2009, 6:18 AM
Lets hope ....and i seem to have misled my snooker table!!?!:)
teabag - 10/16/2009, 6:52 AM
I have a plan just have Dan, Harold, and Bill sit down and make a script. And how serious dose he want it. The first one was good it was funny. And the second one had the same tone as the first i, loved the second one. The third one don't have to be darker. And if Bill isen't in it then im not seeing it, they shoulden't even make it.

Logan-X - 10/16/2009, 10:24 AM
Murray had the best 'cameo' role of 2009. Hilarious. Thanks for the spoiler at the top though - you fcukbag. Je$us.

But yeah - hilarious. Who gives a sh!t about Ghostbusters 3 though? It won'r happen with the full original cast. I'd sh!t if it ever did. Expect Aykroyd to come back and maybe Ramis.......But as for the rest? I don't know.
Keven - 10/16/2009, 3:26 PM
Bill is the MAN! It's good to see that not everyone working in Hollywood is a sellout.
Magicfingers - 10/16/2009, 4:41 PM
@dancingmonkey08- What about 'What About Bob?'? lol
Magicfingers - 10/16/2009, 4:47 PM
there is still hope,if the script is good maybe he will still do it.PLEEEEZE BILL! EVEN A CAMEO WOULD BE NICE!he is the man! god bless all second city alums.
