New Ninja Assassin Clips

Check out the bloody ninja action from the creators of The Matrix and the director of V for Vendetta!
Sure, it's not technically a comic book movie, but it's pretty close to being one and it comes with a strong comic book pedigree: It's produced by the Wachowski Bros., creators of The Matrix and owners their own comic book company, and by Joel Silver, who also produced The Matrix and V for Vendetta and is currently developing both Sgt. Rock and Lobo movies; it's directed by James McTeigue, who directed V for Vendetta and was in talks to direct X-Men Origins: Magneto; and, it was co-written by comic book superstar J. Michael Straczynski.

Plus, CBM fans just love their ninjas!

Enter: Ninja Assassin

Starring Korean pop star Rain in his first feature role, Ninja Assassin tells the story of Raizo, a man who turns his back on the ninja-training orphanage where he grew up only to be hunted by his former brothers, who everyone else thinks are mere myth.

@LEEE: Helz, yeah! This is going to rock!
Brent Sprecher - 11/12/2009, 12:37 PM
I usually ingore movies like this but except for the uber stupid Elektra movie it's been ages since there was a serious Ninja flick out there.

I wil probably see it out of sheer curiosity
DarthMulder - 11/12/2009, 12:37 PM
i heard this wasn't good. i heard there's obscene amounts of digital blood....which is kind of sh!tty - but I'm still gonna check this out. I haven't seen a good action movie in a long time.
Keven - 11/12/2009, 12:39 PM
Man, just seen the vid clip, seen the trailer b4 but that was [frick]ing sweet!

Cheers man!

It is gonna rock!!
LEEE777 - 11/12/2009, 12:47 PM
I'm with you on that call Keven, my brother and I are huge into martial arts/mindless action flicks and definitely checking this out.
Stumblin - 11/12/2009, 12:47 PM
uh someone bashed me for putting it up last month! Go figure, can't satisfy everyone.
Spock - 11/12/2009, 1:13 PM
My God...More movies need to be made like this one, lets hope this is a start to an awesome trend, I'm still banking on Mortal Kombat 3 comin out, and for it to be awesome
davidzuck - 11/12/2009, 1:22 PM
Yeah i'm looking forward to this movie... just bad day opening on Thanksgiving
thegreek - 11/12/2009, 1:36 PM
Thanks Brent, Looking better everytime I see it.. ;)
Minotauro - 11/12/2009, 2:01 PM
but if they make more movies like this everyone will bitch about how unoriginal they are lol... but I agree :) this will be a great action film.
thatiscrazy - 11/12/2009, 2:16 PM
yeah - I mean.....tons and tons of digital blood worries me - and the trailer has some extremely blatant CGI sh!t when he's swinging around that weapon on the chain - so I'm weary....I like movies like Ong Bak and Protector where they're amazing and it's all 100% real action...When it's too digital it can get boring. So I'll be ok with the digital stuff if the action is original.

he11 - the one action scene at the end of V for Vendetta was amazing - that slow mo knife fest...So I think back to that scene and I hope the Wachowskis did something like that..I hope...
Keven - 11/12/2009, 2:23 PM
the female role in this movie looks lame and out of place in this movie.

grif - 11/12/2009, 2:32 PM
I really truly hope this movie ROCKS! The CGI has me concerned, but there really needs to be more NINJA movies. I recently read a series called the "Tales of the Otori" or something along those lines, and i'm praying it gets made into a film.
Talontd - 11/12/2009, 3:04 PM
I have such mixed feelings for this movie. I watched the trailers I think it looks amazing and then worry whether the Korean pop star will be able to hold the part. Then of coourse the worry as to whether the Wachowski siblings will pull a Matrix 2/3 on me, suddenly the ninja becomes Jesus....

Then of course I feel better because even if the story and acting sucks the action should make up for it.
JerusalemJr - 11/12/2009, 3:05 PM
i dunno bout this. Looks lame.
MsKyle08 - 11/12/2009, 3:19 PM
This looks awesome but im with talontd, there seems to be alot of CGI in the fight sceens. Hoping for the best though, however if this lets me down then there always the expendable to look forward too

I for once would like to see a Ninjutsu movie that wasn't more than a vehicle for blood and guts, stereotypical "assassin" this and that. No CGI, no fast or slo-motion effects. Just real, authentic Taijutsu in one of the forms left with real practitioners of it. I would like to see the lifestyle reflected of the period too, should it be a period piece. Hell they could go straight to (old) Iga or Koga prefecture for filming.

I really like what Tony Jaa is doing in film. He's a hell of an acrobat, but his martial arts are solid.
gtrman - 11/12/2009, 4:56 PM
I WAS looking forward to this, it was featured before the trailers at a movie in the "Cinemark First Look". The director said that the goal was to make a modern ninja flick that didn't rely on CGI and wire work, but actual martial artists and parkour experts, you could see Damien Walters in the background running through scenes with the star. Then the actual trailer came out and it is almost all CGI, almost looks like it was meant to be a 3D movie.
HarrisonBergeron - 11/12/2009, 5:00 PM
I just want to see hordes of ninjas fighting it out, if this movie paves the way for that, then it is more than welcome.
NoobMike - 11/12/2009, 6:39 PM
I want to see a ninja movie with no cgi or wore work.

The Chun Li movie, while horrible in almost every respect, had a few short yet awesome fight scenes that did not look to have any cgi or wire work. I thought we were getting a movie like that. There are enough skilled people trying to break into Hollywood that a CGI and wire free martial arts movie could be done well.
HarrisonBergeron - 11/12/2009, 7:01 PM
this lead guy could play RYU or liu kang
Anil Rickly - 11/12/2009, 7:34 PM
I've been waiting for a movie like this! Jet Li never really did it for me and Jackie Chan is too goofy in most of his movies! The last really good martial arts movie I saw was Ong-Bak. I'm okay with the CGI as long as it's not overdone...
Bijous - 11/12/2009, 8:48 PM
@ grtman:
lol, that's a great idea, except that if they shot for total authenticity people wouldn't like it because it wouldn't look a thing like the silly cartoony myth that was created in the '80's.
DarthMulder - 11/12/2009, 9:35 PM
@Darthmulder
Yeah, I know. There is so much culture to be explored there, so many stories. Ah well. BRING ON THE NINJA HORDES!!!
gtrman - 11/13/2009, 12:22 AM
I just hope they didnt show the good parts like they do in some movies. But other than that im going to see this one!

zeroq0 - 11/13/2009, 3:13 AM
i think it looks cool personally. i mean, all movies don't have to be TDK worthy, as far as story. sometimes its fun to see a mindless action flick. thats how i was able to like transformers 1 AND 2. these kind of movies will never be my favorites, but at least their entertaining.

and people talk about ong bak, which were good action movies, but how lame was the story in that??? if i buy a DVD of a movie, and fast forward to the fight scenes, then that means the story is unwatchable to me, lol. bad guy steals elephant. bad ass muy thai expert seeks revenge. like we haven't seen that a million times?? (minus the elephant plot point of course) yet those movies (yes, there is a sequel) were still awesome...simply because of the action.

but i know what you mean about being a lot of CGI, but that usually doesn't bother me too much, personally
CorndogBurglar - 11/13/2009, 5:02 AM
the best martial arts movie out there is "THE PROTECTER" by far...hopefully this movie will be good tho...but tony ja is on another level...bruce lee type sh!t
~X
XmutantX - 11/13/2009, 5:26 AM
Ninjas are awesome :P
teabag - 11/13/2009, 6:10 AM
The Protector was awesome! BRUTAL Muay Thai fighting sequences!
But Ong Bak 2 was really good too, mixing several martial arts... that fight scene where Tony Jaa mixes Hung Gar Kung Fu with Muay Thai is just brilliant!!!

And I hope this movie goes well. As a Ninjutsuka, I really miss some Ninjutsu movies as well.... just hope some day they make one based on the old stories from Japan. =]
skull - 11/13/2009, 6:17 AM
@ skull

protector WAS cool. the scene where he fights that dude in the flaming church was bad ass!
CorndogBurglar - 11/13/2009, 1:07 PM
Can anyone tell me whawt that knife chain thing he has is called?
TheSoulEater - 11/13/2009, 3:39 PM
@TheSoulEater: It looks like a modified Kusari gama.
Brent Sprecher - 11/13/2009, 5:44 PM
@ brent

right you are. the other end of the chain generally has a small weighted steel ball that is just as deadly as the blade. i only know that because you get one in ninja gaiden 2, lol. and they showcased it on Deadliest Warriors. or whatever that show is. they did ninja vs spartan. the weighted ball, though little, hit with enough force to dent the spartan helmet enough to literally kill a man. fun facts for fun people
CorndogBurglar - 11/13/2009, 6:28 PM
lol good guess gents. It's actually a modified Shoge hook knife that has had the straight part of the blade removed so that only the bladed hook remains.

If I had to guess I would say that it was done so that it can be used to cut someone at a distance. It's the same technique as bashing them with a manriki, except if you know how to use it, you can slice them with a bladed end
DarthMulder - 11/14/2009, 1:44 PM
@ darth

yarp. its used to keep numerous people at bay. the swinging and twirling motions spin around your entire body so that enemies from all sides are forced to fight from a distance, so they can't all rush you at the same time. the blade is dangerous for obvious reasons. but the ball at the other end makes it two weapons in one. the one in this movie looks a little different though, the kusari gama is really a kama giri at the end of a chain. this blade doesn't quite look like a kama.
