Tim Burton's personal collection is on display at the New York Museum of Modern Art!
Director Tim Burton has unlocked his private vault filled with items from his long film career to share with the public at a new showing at New York's Museum of Modern Art. The collection, which includes such items as Michael Keaton's bat cowl from Batman, Johnny Depp's suit from Edward Scissor Hands, and dozens of production sketches and set pieces from Sleepy Hollow, A Nightmare Before Christmas and other films, will be on display from now until April 2010.
Burton explained:
"A lot of this stuff is just private, personal things that, you know, just meant for me or to kind of explore other ideas. It's like opening up somebody's closet."
Many of the actors who worked with Burton over the years showed up for the premiere of the exhibit, including Depp, who has appeared in several Burton films:
"I can only speak for myself, you know, that I feel incredibly lucky to have been given these various gigs by Tim over the years."
Danny Devito, the Penguin in Burton's Batman Returns, said:
"You know, it comes out, that's the thing. You got creepy stuff in your head that still hasn't come out. You admit it, right? So get it out on paper, baby."
