More Thor Interviews: Kenneth Branagh and Chris Hemsworth
Kenneth Branagh discusses "purists" and "fanboys" and title star Chris Hemsworth raves about his director!
By Brent Sprecher - 4/19/2011
Kenneth Branagh:
There wasn't anything I ever did in Shakespeare that wasn't subjected to intense passion and debate by people who call themselves purists. With the fanboys--especially the ones I spoke to at Comic-Con--you can't be grateful enough for the incredible, sort of, level of interest. And I love that! The idea of this amount of interest in your film ahead of time, that's rare, that's thrilling. Are you expecting it to please everyone? No. Are you expecting it to entertain everyone? Yes. And maybe they'll argue about everything they argue about anyway.
Chris Hemsworth:
I think what is so special about Ken taking on a film like this is the story and the character is taken care of. Marvel is such a machine and the budget, the special effects and everything are going to be there. But he was also incredibly involved in that and his ideas on how to shoot through things and make the 3D work was hugely impressive. As I said, my attaction to it--and I heard Natalie saying the same thing--was that Kenneth Branagh was doing a film like this, you know, what an interesting combination.
Thor was written by Ashley Edward Miller, Zack Stentz, Don Payne and Mark Protosevich. The movie follows the selfish and arrogant prince of Asgard (Hemsworth) as he is banished from his celestial home and cast down to lowly Midgard (Earth) where he must learn to be a hero without the use of his incredible super powers. The cast includes Academy Award-winners Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman, as well as Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Joshua Dallas, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Kat Dennings and Clark Gregg.
Thor opens May 6th!
