The Dark Knight DVD Will Not Include Usual Extras

Director Christopher Nolan chose not to include many features DVD fans have grown accustomed to out of respect for the actors involved.
The Batman: The Dark Knight DVD and Blu-ray sets released today will be somewhat different than fans might expect. For starters, don’t expect any outtakes or bloopers scenes. In a recent interview with USA Today, Nolan stated, "I don't think it's respectful to the actors, who signed on to have their performance on screen, not the takes that didn't work out. It discourages actors from going all-out if they think every mistake is going on the disc."

Even the ever-present "Deleted Scenes" feature will be absent. Said Nolan, "If it's in the final script, I tend put it on screen."

So, what will you get?



Nolan is highlighting the behind-the-scenes, "Making Of" featurette, which will include a look at alternate shooting angles, stunts and the technology of Batman’s hardware.

Nolan has also said that he has been writing down notes about the possible sequel, but that he has doubts about making a third film in the series:

”…I wouldn't want to do one if it weren't going to be as good as the first or second. That's not respectful to the fans."

Batman: The Dark Knight will be released on DVD and Blu-ray today and will be re-released in theaters following the Academy Award nominations on January 23rd.

i bought the dvd yesterday..the extras are truly abysmal. a boring documentary and some garbage about the different shooting angles! this is a 2 disc set, all of the extras could have easily fit on the one disc. boooo mr nolan

Don't worry Rorschach01, whent that terrible adaptation of Watchmen comes out on DVD, it will be filled with extras. Shitty movies always do that, like the Transformers dvd.

Nolan makes great movies. [frick] DVD extras.

i could care less about bloopers and out takes but no deleted scenes? well if there are any at all they should have been on my 2 disk special edition. not tot totaly upset though cause he knows how to make a movie. and if things were cut then its probably not even worth watching. anyway tons of other extra stuff to watch.

Considering the movie's runtime, I think anything on the cutting room floor was of no real substance. What I really want is the director commentary.

I expect to see a boxset with the movies extended with neer seen footage at some point after the third one comes out.

Come on I think this guy is stating to take himself a little to seriously now.. it's not like he's the first director to score to good movies. the out takes and bloopers is not a disrpectful thing it's just good fun.. The deleted scenes is nice because sometimes they trim it for time or later felt it didn't add to the story. But, I guess when the original comes in over 2 1/2 hours there isn't a whole lot left in the way of deleted scenes that make sense. I still would have liked to see them..

I would have preferred a more in-depth look at the making of the film. Batman Begins had features like that.

Looks like he's doing this mostly cause of Ledger, which I find appropriate.

NOLAN, FANS WERE WAITING TO SEE SOME COOL BEHIND THE SCENES STUFF!QUESTIONS AND CURIOSITIES THAT WERENT ANSWERED IN THE DVD-THE JOKER, WHY MAKE UP, PROCESS, SPECIAL FX..TWO FACE..DONT THINK ITS DISRESPECTFUL, ITS TOUCHY I KNOW WITH LEDGER'S DEATH, BUT YOU HAVE TO PUT IT OUT THERE,DELETED SCENES BLOOPERS AND ALL,ITS A 3 HR MOVIE..DVD'S ARE THE MOVIE BUT A PORTAL TO SEE WHAT U WENT THROUGH TO MAKE IT A REALITY, FANS WANT TO SEE THESE THINGS,ITS NOT DISRESPECTFUL, ITS RESPECTFUL TO ACTING AND DIRECTING AND FX AS AN ART FORM..YOUR NOT BEING FAIR NOLAN.

how jacked up would it be if down the road they decided to re-release it again with the behind the scene extras and bloopers and cast interviews. It really wouldn't be a suprise cause im sure thats what the executives have in mind. but then again what if they don't ... decisions decisions.
I might sit this one out and wait and see, I don't want to end up having to own 2 darknights.

Quagmire i happen to like dvd extras, particularly if its a movie i love..god forbid id want to learn more about the process of making said movie. and fyi some of the greatest movies ever made have recieved the best dvd extra packages (blade runner, la haine, Lotr, most of Kubricks movies) BUT only after the movies wer released first (in some cases a few times) with little or no extras. and i guarantee you this is what will happen with the dark knight. Nolan might like to come accross respectful and like a "serious auteur" but hes not above making a load of money from his fans off the back of an inferior product.

Personally, I think that sucks that the extras are limited. I never really care about seeing the multiple takes, but, c'mon, no deleted scenes?

It sounds to me like this is the story with this release and then in, like, six months, they'll release the "complete" Dark Knight DVD, with all kinds of stuff in it to make us buy it again.

there is no behind the scenes. no visual effects featurettes. no stunt featurettes. not much here. they explain the batpod batsuit and gadgets. and that is about it.

I know the joker died...He just didnt want to show it out of respect for ledger in the deleted scenes...

I understand why he didn't put deleted scenes and stuff on the dvd. But why make a dvd with a bonus disc if there's nothing good on there? I wasted money buying the two disc hoping there would be some cool bonus features.
