TDKR: Joker Reference Idea

My own personal idea for a Joker reference, not cameo.

While the Joker was excluded from The Dark Knight Rises, his plan still had repercussions on some of the character, namely Jim Gordon. I understand why there was no cameo in the movie, that would have been very disrespectful to Heath Ledger and his family.

My reference idea is very simple yet could be very powerful for fans to speculate and debate over.

During the prison breakout scene, during all the chaos panning down a long hallway coming to a stop at a cell cracked open with a flickering light. On the wall written about a hundred times is the word "HA."

Let me know what you think.

I had a reference Idea but I posted it on IMDB.

TDKR was based partially off "No Mans Land". Before the movie was released I saw in the trailers the chalk bat symbol being drawn every where. In no mans land various gangs "tag" their area with symbols, and when batman comes back in the comic he starts tagging bats every where.

One line from the comic which Jim Gordon says when they discover the first Bat symbol tag is "Probably just some Joker........ Sorry, bad choice of words"

Reference Joker and also plays on his line in the Dark Knight "Very poor choice of words"

But unfortunately it was the actual GCPD who were doing the bat symbol tagging so it wouldn't have worked.

I don't dislike the idea, but it seems less a little nod/reference to the Joker's existence, and more of a 'Guess who's showing up later?' statement. It likely would have hung over the film as the audience sat waiting for him to show up. I know I would have been.

@TheIrishAvenger that's sweet.

I always get annoyed that people think that putting a Joker refference, or cameo would've been "Disrespectful to Heath". This wasn'this only job, it wasn't the cause of his death, and it wasn't even his LAST role. The Joker is a character, and when you treat a character differently just because of one actor you're disrespecting the character, not respectig the actor.
JokerFanHAhaHA - 8/24/2012, 11:18 AM
Other than that, I think your idea was pretty good.
MisterMagurlypse - 8/24/2012, 12:16 PM
Good idea, for sure. @JokerFanHAhaHa....I agree totally with you but I think it still might be too soon. Let TDKR pass and they'll move on to another actor.

@TheIrishAvenger.....That was the greatest!!!

@flamingopuree
i agree, if the reference is too heavy handed, the audience would be anticipating a showdown later in the film.
@Theirishavenger
as awesome as that would be, it would trail off to a fight between batman and the joker that would take too long to deal with. the joker's goal was pure and utter chaos. he got that with bane's mission. regardless of the impending explosion, the joker probably saves batman just to torture him until they both die in the explosion.

nolan did a lot of fan pleasing references in his dialogue, so i really dig @karloshuddos idea of simply stirring up memories of the character with dialogue.

it's not disrespectful to want to see the joker again due to ledgers performance, on the contrary. it was so amazing, that the fans demand more. ledger portrayed the joker in a way that will influences future portrayals of the joker for years to come. that's pretty damn cool honestly.

Me and my brother had an idea about the mentioning of the Joker during the scene when Bane revealed to the public about Batman and Gordon hiding the truth of what Harvey Dent really did. Gordon can mention the Joker as he was explaining his actions as he was being criticized by Blake for lying to the public. That was a perfect scene for the name drop.
dannramm113 - 8/25/2012, 11:49 AM
@KingEmperor, you said "Me and my brother"... Please tell me your actually a Nolan
IronSpider101 - 8/25/2012, 1:20 PM
Frankly, for me the whole speech Gordan gave about "Plunging hands into the filth" was reference enough for me.

Was there any reference to Ras Al Ghul in The Dark Knight? Nope.
accountnolongerinuse - 8/25/2012, 3:33 PM
@IronSpider101 The events of The Dark Knight were more directly impacted by Batman's arrival than by Ra's Al Ghul's failed fear toxin stratagem. On the other hand, Gordon's ascension to the post of commissioner, Batman's alleged murder of Harvey Dent, Bruce's eight year retirement, and the city itself being shaken into peace were all direct results of the Joker's attempt to tear Gotham apart. A Joker reference was not necessary, no, but it would have been more appropriate than a Ra's Al Ghul reference in TDK.

Something NO Batman movie has done....

When a freshly caught lunatic is caught and being taken to his/her cell, (and oh man, this is like the end of half of TAS' episodes) said lunatic is led down a hall and shown that s/he is not alone in Arkham.

Someday we'll see a red head watering a plant, a balding man with glasses holding a sock over one of his hands, a short man with buck teeth reading "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"....

But until then, we'll just have to imagine it.
accountnolongerinuse - 8/26/2012, 8:46 AM
To Schumacher's credit, we did see Two-Face and Riddler's suits at Arkham in Batman & Robin.
Thor86 - 8/26/2012, 3:01 PM
That would be a horrible idea just for the simple fact that the prisoners were broken out of blackgate prison. no way in hell the clown prince of crime would of been in blackgate his crazy ass would be locked up in Arkham
KingEmperor - 8/26/2012, 11:23 PM
@dannramm113

I'd tell you that I am, but then I'd be lying. Or am I...?
DrRockit13 - 9/11/2012, 1:55 PM
i don't think that would have worked in the film the way it was shot and the style
DrRockit13 - 9/11/2012, 1:56 PM
you have to do something that wouldn't have stopped the story from progressing and something like that would have.
