1. I voted for Thanos-Thanos is a total beast, he kicked the butts of everyone in Marvel.

2. I voted for Mr. Fantastic-Couldnt Reed just immobilize him with his stretchy arms.

3. I voted for Black Canary-Black Widow is one of my favorites and she is at least twice the fighter that BC is, however I must be logical. BW can't get past the super scream.
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 12:43 AM
A question for everyone who has been voting on these for a while: How is it that we have voted Batman and Captain America into the top 5 while Superman doesent even make top 10? How did we let that happen? Supes could (and would) whoop both of their butts at the same time. All the more reason I believe it should be set up into divisions, we have a god power division with Superman, Thor, Hulk, Doc Manhattan, Silver Surfer etc. It would really make sure that maximum fairness in fights is insured.
BlakeUsmcVet - 12/3/2012, 2:44 AM
How about a fight between Thanos and Darkseid.
Minato - 12/3/2012, 8:23 AM
@Fenix122
Less than half of the people who vote take these seriously. Batman made it because of the nerd rule.
LoudLon - 12/3/2012, 9:27 AM
Ganthet vs Thanos -- I'm a much bigger fan of Thanos, but without the infinity Gauntlet he's merely a slightly-more-powerful-than-most Titan with a death complex to beat the band. And here he's going up against a cosmic-level being who can kick all kinds of ass without even lifting a finger. Li'l G for the win.

Cyborg vs Mr. Fantastic -- gotta go with Reed Richards on this one. Cyborg might be handy in a regular tussle but with RR's super-genius, the fact that he's almost always packing some kind of powerful gizmo and a body that's near-impervious to physical damage, I think RR would take this one rather quickly.

Black Canary vs Black Widow -- it's the previous knowledge/prep thing that will be the deciding factor here, and in a prep/previous knowledge situation, Widow's got the advantage. She'll know what to expect and will come prepared. Ear plugs take care of BC's scream and a bullet to the heart takes care of BC's life. And none of that "because a character CAN kill doesn't mean they WILL" silliness because Black Widow, as has been shown many times in comics, is indeed a killer and wouldn't hesitate to pop a cap on a bitch.

@Fenix -- Cap's in the top 5 for good reason -- because he's a bad-ass of the highest order and has the mad skills and tactical genius to take out opponents VASTLY more powerful than himself. Batman, on the other hand, is a result of deluded fanboys. And some would say possibly automated vote bots. But I would imagine there are far more deluded fanboys here than vote bots.

As for breaking them into classes, again, you have to keep in mind that right now, Fight Club is only open to character who have been adapted to live-action TV shows or films (though there have been a lot more film and anime characters showing up lately, which I hate, because this is COMIC BOOK MOVIE fight club, not RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK Fight Club).

Anyway, point is, with so limited a number of participants, to start breaking them up into categories means characters in each class fighting one another over and over and over, and Fight Club will get boring REALLY damn quick.

If Witness were to open it up to all comic characters in general, then I can see discussing weight/power classes. But until then, we've got about as much variety as is possible from the limited number of participants. Let's not limit them even further by forcing them to fight only those in their supposed weight classes.
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 9:56 AM
@loudlon
I agree both Cap and Bats deserve recognition, Cap makes top 10 at minimum because I have seen him take down Thor, and even mess around with Hulk and Thanos. Batman should get top 20 at minimum, but my point is that Superman is easily on par with top 2 (WW and Thor) not only is he one of the most powerful he is also one of the most popular. I just don't get why Batman gets more recognition than he does.
LoudLon - 12/3/2012, 12:05 PM
Again, it all comes down to DFS. Deluded Fanboy Syndrome. Where logic and objectivity take a back-seat to blind allegiance and favoritism.

I agree Superman should be MUCH higher in the rankings, but I don't think he can hang with the likes of Silver Surfer and other cosmic-level beings because, simply, he's an alien, not a god, not someone with phenomenal energy manipulation abilities, etc. He's tough. Super-tough. But I do still think he's given way too much credit considering how inconsistently he's always been written.

If I were to make a top ten list of the most capable comic characters off the top of my head -- and when I say "most capable," I mean the ones who can punch beyond their weight class, and excluding nigh-omnipotent characters like Galactus, the In-Betweener, Chaos and Order, Death, etc. -- it might look something like this:

(no particular order)

Silver Surfer
Thor
Flash
Captain America
Superman
Martian Manhunter
Hulk
Spider-Man
Reed Richards
Dr. Doom

These guys, in my mind, can handle just about anything you throw at them. If I were to go top 20, Batman would probably fall somewhere around the 14th or 15th spot. Still a great character who's accomplished a lot considering he's merely human and completely unenhanced, but objectively, I don't see him being able to handle even one of those guys on my top ten list.
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 12:13 PM
@loudlon
Yeah, that seems right. Put Wonder Woman, Doc Manhatan, Daredevil, Hell-Boy and Spawn and you pretty much got a top 15, and put bats or Fury at 16. Anyway your top ten seems accurate IMO and we are both right there is no logical way that Batman is ahead of Silver Surfer and Superman. So it's really all because of deluded idiot fanboys? Hm... Some people just need to grow up, thanks!!
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 12:19 PM
I also think Wolverine and GL would land somewhere in a top 20 like that.
LoudLon - 12/3/2012, 12:38 PM
Yeah, I'd put DD ahead of Bats, but as this was just off the top of my head, I didn't think to include guys like Hellboy or Spawn.

Doc M falls under the "nigh-omnipotent" type characters I excluded because, aside from his lack of warm and fuzzy feelings for the human race and the fact that he can only see his own past, present and future, the guy is basically God.

I also agree GL is top 20 material, but Wolverine? Claws and a healing factor don't mean he can't be disintegrated by an energy blast or knocked out cold by a stronger opponent. His incomprehensible increase in power over the last ten or fifteen years can be blamed on writers catering to his fanbase as one of the more popular comics characters of the last twenty years. Dude almost died when Magneto stripped the adamantium out of him, but now Hulk can rip him in half and it barely even registers? C'mon, son!
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 12:54 PM
@loudlon
No, I think Wolverine is definitely top 20 material, because he is part of the handful of heroes that can say he defeated the Hulk. His claws pierced Hulk's thick hide, and he sliced through him.
LoudLon - 12/3/2012, 1:24 PM
^^^ I'd agree with a lot of those. I'm not so sure about Wonder Woman, but that's just me. Though Phoenix I would also place among the "nigh-omnipotents."

And yeah, Dr. Strange should definitely be top-20. He is to sorcery and magic what Silver Surfer is to the Power Cosmic, and considering they're different types of "energies," that pretty much puts Strange in a class of his own.
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 1:40 PM
MAYBE Aquaman, but im not sure hes way too inconsistent. Sometimes hes a weakling, but other times (namely, when hes hydrated) his strength is on par with Superman, so im not sure about him.
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 2:03 PM
Oh, and I forgot Doomsday, he easily makes top 20 as well.
ravennpilot - 12/3/2012, 3:41 PM
I love that the idea of making a list and ranking them has already started. I have disagreements with the list that you guys listed and alot of it makes sense. I dont know everything about the characters listed but that right there has been more interesting then these fights in a while.

I would vote to open this polling to all Comic Characters. I know the author works hard to make the polls and images but you can still manipulate comic book art for polls if that is half the fun. That or create interesting designs.

I would love to debate where Batman ranks among heroes with powers. Or perhaps does Wolverine power levels make him ace to fight Superman. Or would he just exist to fight the likes of Dare Devil.
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 3:51 PM
@ravenpilot
I agree, these should be open to all comics characters because awesome fighters like Namor and Hercules don't get a chance to show how powerful they are. I agree with you!!
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 4:22 PM

@worldbreaker

How about like this top 25, 25 is a good number to use when ranking fighters because it's a quarter of 100.

(no order)

Superman
Thor
Silver Surfer
Reed Richards
Martian Manhunter
Captain America
Hulk
Doc Doom
Spider-Man
Flash
Daredevil
Spawn
Hell-Boy
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern
Batman
Fury
Wolverine
Doomsday
Doctor Strange
Sentry
Deadpool
Namor
Shazam
Lobo

+ Aquaman and Hercules

I think that this is accurate. You guys?
LoudLon - 12/3/2012, 5:16 PM
I can't see someone like Hercules or Namor being a top-25. Herc's crazy strong, yes, but he's no stronger than Thor or Hulk, and strength is really his only power. He's durable, bullet-proof, sure, but mostly he's a tank character who brings very little else to the table.

However, I could see someone like Wonder Man being on there. He's never really been utitlized to his full extend in the comics, but according to the OHOTMU he's right up there with Juggernaut, Hulk and Thor in tems of pure strength, and being composed of ionic energy he's basically indestructible. Why this potentially great character has been consistently thrown aside is beyond me, as he can hang with the toughest guys Marvel OR DC can throw at him.
LoudLon - 12/3/2012, 5:19 PM
Oh, and I forgot Namor. Like Hercules, he's insanely strong -- but only in the water. The longer he's on dry land, the weaker he becomes. When he fought Spider-Man back in the 80s, Spidey was able to outrun him long enough for Namor to power down, then Spidey whooped the hell out of him.

That's a major weakness that can be, and has been, often, exploited. Aside from his strength all he can do is fly, and not all that fast (about 60mph, if I remember his OHOTMU entry correctly, though it's been about 20 years since I read it lol).

Shazam -- yeah, he'd be top 25, I think. He's basically Superman, so...

Lobo -- ix-nay. Like a large number of DC's so-called big guns, this is another character who's power set has been consistently inconsistent.
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 6:03 PM
So you thin to drop Namor and Lobo from top 25 and replace them with?
GuardianDevil - 12/3/2012, 6:24 PM
I was thinking Ghost Rider...
LoudLon - 12/4/2012, 2:49 AM
I'd replace Herc and Namor with Beta Ray Bill (basically Thor's equal) and Champion of the Universe. From DC, I'd go with Orion and Firestorm.
jojofmd - 12/4/2012, 11:33 AM
@LoudLon, I generally appreciate your common sense in creating logical arguments and usually I don't disagree with you. However your assessment of the Black Canary vs. Widow fight is wrong and displays some ignorance.

First of all, I'm not complaining that BW could win this. She's a world class assassin, genetically modified and has prep time. However, you incorrectly dismiss and underestimate BC's Canary cry. First of all, it is an ultrasonic scream and using ear plugs to protect against it would be as useful as using Kevlar to protect from Wolvie's claws. Sound is a wave and in ultra sonic frequencies causes damage on non audible level. That wave would hit BW like a ton of bricks. She would be disorientated confused and possibly left unconscious. This would occur even if she was wearing earplugs. So please do some research. This is said with respect as usually I can see your logic even though I may disagree with you.
LoudLon - 12/4/2012, 1:28 PM
I understand the nature of BC's scream, and I guess I my attempt at witticism with the earplugs comments should have been more in-depth.

When you take into consideration that BW is one of SHIELD's top agents, that means she's going to have access to the best defensive gear on the planet. Gear which has been shown to withstand Cyclops' optic blasts, energy attacks, telepathic attacks and -- yep -- sonic attacks.

So I stand by my logic. Yes, in a first encounter/no prep/no previous knowledge fight, I totally give it to BC because BW would be unaware of her sonic abilities. But in a rematch, bet your bottom dollar BW would come prepared for it, and from there it comes down to a master martial artist using her bare hands and a master martial artist and expert marksman packing a pair of pistols and no inhibitions about using them. In a rematch, BC's goose is cooked.

Heh. Bird joke.
jojofmd - 12/4/2012, 6:12 PM
That is logic I can get behind, however you didn't say that. So I suggest you make yourself clearer.
rottencotten - 12/4/2012, 7:09 PM
Thanos- First I have to agree with @Rey, Ganthet should have beat Loki...Thanos is another question...I think Thanos wins because of his natural fighting ability and his teleportation...Hal, Kilowog etc. are all bad asses because they know how to mentally and physically kick someone's ass...Ganthet is a pacifist...so pretty sure Thanos would crush him after a well fought battle...

Cyborg- With Reed's make-up consisting of mostly elastic, Cyborg could use his sonic-cannon to turn Mr. Fantastic into a pile of melted-rubber...

Black Widow- I think she would whoop Canary's ass even without prep...

Green Lantern: Hal Jordan for the battle...The new animated show is [frick]in' awesome!!..
