While NONE of the Green Lanterns come close to the power of the Silver Surfer, Tomar Re especially doesn't have the willpower to match the Power Cosmic.

Gotta go with VIRILEMAN on this one.
If folks were to actually read the "powers and abilities" section, people would see that the Surfer is in the top 1% of the ultra powerful. I'd put the Lanterns in the top 10%.

Yes everyone understands that the surfer is the most powerful, the problem I have is that the universes don't make sense, if the surfer existed in the dc universe then the guardians would have knowledge of surfer and gallactus and acted accordingly to stopping, imprisoning or doing something to negotiate a peace. I must start reading surfer comics as I don't understand how he can be appealing, he's mega powerful is being controlled by a higher power yet the fantastic four can defeat gallactus! Anyone re commend a good silver surfer read to start my collectio?

And nothing that involves FF, I hate them, it has to be the worst set of characters ever in the comic world

Yea FF is pretty bad ( except for Doc. Doom, he's cold as ice). I don't think they beat Galactus, I think they tricked him. There is a difference

I actually think, if put in the same universe and given reason to be in conflict, the Surfer, as in individual, would be one of the greatest threats the Lanterns could ever face.
An unrestricted Surfer going all out would decimate a large portion of the Corps before, and IF, they would be able to stop him.
I don't believe any one Lantern could hope to survive a conflict with the Surfer.

The FF always finding a way to thwart Galactus is always kinda... well.... it stretches it a bit. Yes, I know it's all make-believe anyway... but it usually pretty much always comes down to the fact that Reed Richards is a super-genius, and he kinda out-thinks the situation.
Either that, or he has help from another god-like being [the Watcher, for example.]
I think John Byrne did some really good Surfer/Galactus stories on his run on the FF. Particularly the one where Terrax is causing all sorts of trouble, or the story arc where Frankie Raye becomes his herald.

@ScRipt69
the thing that gives the Surfer his high favorability is the fact that even though he's this ultra-powerful being, he is also heavily influenced by issues of morality, love, and humility. At least that's how he was when he was first established as a character. He was extremely noble, and that's what created a disconnect inside of him ---- on the one hand he was this moral, soul-searching poetic good guy, but on the other hand he was the Herald of Galactus. So for a long time you'd have creatures like Mephisto trying to corrupt his noble soul, but he was just too good to be corrupted. His spirit was more powerful than his super-powers.

Yes Surfer is extremely powerful but he isnt fighting bank robbers, he is fighting Cosmic entities and other ridiculously powerful enemies like Mephisto, Thanos, or rogue Heralds of Galactus. I loved the series Ron Lim illustrated like the Infinity Gauntlet series and Annihilators is pretty decent. What i like about the character so much is that he was a normal man (not human tho) that sacrificed himself for his planet to save lives but instead caused mass galactic genocide, and when he eventually is released from Galactus' service he has to cope with the guilt. He is now a pacifist and defender of life. If the Surfer has a weakness its his compassion and guilt. Plus he looks Bad Ass.

Galactus' origin story is, briefly put, he was the only being from the [previous universe] to survive the Big Bang. His name was Galan, and he was a super scientist.
His universe was about to explode, he put himself into some sort of spaceship.... the Big Bang happened.... he rode the wave of the explosion..... so therefore he was the first living being in our current universe.
He was all energy in the beginning, so somehow a cocoon machine thing was built around him. He slept for billions of years, and the Watcher was there to see him officially be 'born' when he came out of his little shell thing. So the Watcher is always guilty, because he thinks he should'a killed Galactus when he was a 'baby'.

Let's not forget the Galactus tampered with Norrin Radds (SS) soul so that he could fulfill his duties to Galactus. Only when SS meets Alicia that he realizes who he is and goes against his master to protect the earth. Footnote: Earths heroes are able to defeat Galactus because he is usually at his weakest.
