Poll: What do you currently think of X-Men: First Class?

With all the new advertising we have gotten for X-Men: First Class, have some of the dislikers of the series been moved? What do you think of the film. Plus a short editorial by yours truly.

Many people, thought that X-Men: First Class was going to be the worst Comicbookmovie this year. Some even think it'll be the worst film this year. I use to be one of these people, but after seeing all the posters, trailers, and TV spots I'm officially on the train of people looking forward to this film.


Now I do want to bring up the point that, we have had a huge history of terrible films with great trailers. Not to mention a prime example, is X-3 which is the same francise. So even though the trailer is great, I won't be suprised if the film ends up failing.



But even though the film is just a month away, I still think its to early to judge. But I predict that we will be seeing a boom of advertising for the film, that will give people many ideas as to how this film will end up.

So now its time for democracy. Whats your status on X-Men: First Class:

Not convinced. James McAvoy is not a Charles Xavier. In the trailers, he doesn't come off as real in trying to be the peaceful, caring, understanding character that tries to keep the peace. He is no Patrick Stewart that has a voice that can command that voice of reason without sounding phony.

Let's look at some interesting little fun facts, shall we?

Bryan Singer is coming back to this franchise. Despite what you Photoshop Class supporters may think, the man isn't going to do much besides sit around, boss Vaughn around, and talk to his boyfriend on the phone. There will be no "creative juices" flowing from Singer because the man never had them in the first place. Yes, he gave us the first two X-Men movies, and I can assure you that there are many other directors who, at the time, could've delivered better made movies.

Mathew Vaughn is not a good filmmaker by any means. "HE DIRECTED KICK ASS SO THIS MOVIE WILL BE GOOD!!!!" No. Just, no. I have a sneaking suspicion that he is actually very lazy, or just incompetent, because around the 30 minute mark in Kick-Ass, it became Hitgirl: The Movie. Now, you can blame this on the script (which is terribly written), but Vaughn could've at any time changed the script to suit what he thought was best. This leads to my theory that his involvement really doesn't mean shit. Most likely, Fox heard about the critical success of Kick-Ass amongst critics, audiences, and the majority of comic fans alike. So, in an effort to shut people like me up, they hired an "experienced Comic Book Movie director" (take that term very lightly) to compensate for the fact that they are going to rape more X-Men characters brutally.

This movie does have the writers of Thor working on it, but who's not to say that they didn't just crap out this movie for a quick paycheck? The Thor script was obviously handled with care and took a lengthy amount of time to write, but it seems as though this Photoshop Class script was rushed out and immediately the studio began filming.

"..Killing will not bring you peace.." Who's to say that it won't bring Erik some peace?

"Peace was never an option." Oh really? Because, judging from what I've see/heard, the mutants seem to have been in direct contact with the government and most likely could've worked out an arrangement

I used that particular part of the dialogue in the trailers because all the Photoshop Class supporters seem to think that it is "well written, intense dialogue". Well, it's really not.

Now, it's obvious that the studio played a BIG hand in the formation of the screenplay. Lots of bigger explosions, lifting a submarine out of the water, Havok shooting hula-hoops of red energy...Fox Studios did more directing on Wolverine than Gavin Hood did. And look how that movie turned out. From what I've read, (and this could be false information, though I have a good feeling the information is true)
Gavin Hood had somewhere around 60% control over the film as a whole. Mathew Vaughn apparently has 40%. That does not bode well for the film, seeing as too much studio involvement can ruin a film (i.e. Wolverine).

The insanely terrible marketing for the film is also a clear sign Fox is not using their best and brightest ( if they even exist at that studio) to market the film properly. Hell, Superman Returns had better marketing than Photoshop Class.

So what do I think of the film? I don't really think of Photoshop Class as a "film". It's Fox's stand against Marvel acquiring the rights back to the characters. Hence why the movie was rushed. Photoshop Class is the epitome of greed, of a studio desperately trying to hold on to a plethora of characters they got years ago, and it is the epitome of a studio not giving a shit about one thing in particular: source material.

@Illuminatus- I agree with you on everything about Bryan Singer. The guy is an uncreative/unimaginative HACK. I still think the first 2 X films are waaaaaay overrated. They weren't THAT great. They could have been soooo much more.

I hate it more and more with each update. Even a good director can make a bad movie, for example, Rob Reiner directed "North".

Donner is a dumbass and Bryan Singer is a poser.

taboo13.. you're one badass chick! I agree with illuminatus tho.. FoX does have a history of raping marvel characters to sh!t. FoX = EPIC FAIL. If only Marvel Studios could produce an X-Men flick....

Seriously...VAUGHN just can't make a bad movie, while footages are looking good!

But the idea of this movie even from the beginning is just wrong.

Why does everybody love Thor??? I thought it was a very entertaining movie and visually awesome but it lacked of any kind of subtext (which X-men movies always take care of, X3 and Origins not that much, I know) and it was definitely far from being a great movie... Plus the king of the frost giants was lame.

@ LEE lmao, I just don't think it'll be as bad as I thought before. I'm willing to give it a chance mainly because my expectations are so low for it.

@ Illuminatus Very good point. Especially on Kick-Ass, I thought it was good, but it might as well have been called Hit-Girl.

@BaneKill77 The "talking to his boyfriend" is actually based on several set stories of Bryan Singer talking on his phone an excessive amount, even during the shooting of a scene. People have assumed that he was always talking to someone more important than the studios. Also, I added it for a bit of comedic relief.

I'm not "bragging" about Bryan Singer. Maybe you don't realize I was actually pointing out his flaws and the specific reasons why his involvement isn't good for the film/franchise as a whole.

Singer has done a great job? No. He hasn't. Singer forgot something called "character development" with every single character except for Wolverine. This is why Fox is seemingly obsessed with Wolverine now.


@Jonet This editorial has nothing to do with Thor, so why come on here just to try and start a flame war? You'll have better luck with that on an Avengers/Thor article. Have a nice day.


@Kjiro I feel your pain, I really do. Marvel Studios must be epic facepalming at the desecration of some of their best characters to date.


@manymade1 I don't want to intentionally drag Kick-Ass through the mud. But people need to stop using it as "fact" to back up their theory that Vaughn will somehow create something...good...with Photoshop Class.

I live in LA, so I hear various stories about certain celebrities firsthand. It's not some bullshit internet rumor, you can go look it up if it will make you feel better.

Good character development for Nightcrawler? Ha. I had myself a good chuckle at that one. Look, you can say that he had good development for other characters besides Wolverine, but it's obvious that he didn't. Go rewatch the movies.

Most people that have bad luck with one CBM, tend to have even worse luck the second time around. 300 is [frick]ing terrible from anything but a technical standpoint. A hot mess of a film that Warner Bros. almost didn't finance because the script was a joke. As for Watchmen, can't say that I was a fan of the film. Then again, why are you bringing Snyder into the argument? He has nothing to do with this.
