TheWorldisYours reviews: Hellboy
My personal thoughts about one of history's greatest CBM's.
Well for starters, Ron Perlman was BORN to play as the scarlet beast. For any one who could play Hellboy, hardly anyone else could have done it and capture the grungy tune to which Hellboy delivers. He was the greatest personalization of character before Mr. Downey jr. with Iron Man. Honestly, he was extremely comfortable to watch as something so demonic yet lovable.
Doug Jones was great as usual, and David Hyde Pierce was ever so noble voicing Abe Sapien. Honestly, the combination of the two was perfect. The character was just as believable as everyone else, and the acting was excellent.
Selma Blair's acting was a little dry and bland, and really did not appeal much to me at all. Even Perlman had troubles getting the chemistry right between the two because of Selma's obstacles. That is really all I have to say about her.
John Hurt and Karl Roden were ever reliable and equalled Ron Perlman and Jones.
They gave some of the best performances throughout the film. Rupert Evans as Myers was good too, but was not essential in my opinion.
As for the direction of Guillermo del Toro, He is a superb director, and he took sequels to an always successful level, and carries with him, that professionalism with the mix of a big kid with an ant farm, and manages it effectively. The CGI was excellent and realistic, and no one else could have done anything better than what the director and cast did for Hellboy.
That is enough for my soapbox, and soon look for my review of Iron man if you enjoyed this one. It will be coming soon!
Good Day Peeps!!
