Why is Dark Reign so Confusing?

Before you read the blog post from Dante Maddox, on Craveonline.com/comics, I would like to say I love Dark Reign. I completely agree with Dante. I went, yesterday, to pick up this weeks comics and I paid $60 dollars for all of these Dark Reign issues. Not to mention next week, somewhere near 12 or 13 issues of Dark Reign comes out. I mean, there are new comics coming out like Dark Wolverine. Might be a tad excessive and Marvel may be a little too arrogant in attempting to tie-in all of these characters. Now to the post....

I now want to focus on the story aspect of Dark Reign. I wish there was a central book to follow, but I believe that Dark Avengers is the focal point for the story. Than the branch off stories, at least have something to latch onto. I really like the Hawkeye story-arch and I am liking the Spider-man storyline also. I can not imagine what DR Wolverine is possibly going to be like or how they will bring Wolverine into. I want to know where this is all going. I really, really want to believe that there is going to be some kind of cataclysmic finish. But to be honest. I have no clue how they are going to do it. If DR ends with Captain America coming back to life and killing Osborn. I will start buying different comics. That will be such a waste of time. There are so many great Heroes involved that they have much better options. I wish Marvel would pull the cord on all of these comics. I bought the Hood, but there does not need to be a tie-in. The Cabal one-shot is pretty cool, but not worth it. I bought Mr. Negative, but do not really know anything about him, worth it? Zodiac #1 and Sinister Spider-man #1 comes out on Wednesday. Zodiac? While cool, does it fit into Dark Reign, with the Dark Avengers? Sinister Spider-man, however will fit, because it is Venom running around pretending to be Spider-man and part of Osborn's plan. Plus, Venom is awesome! I love the DR storyline and enjoy the archs. Mainly because it is cool to see what the characters are doing while outside of the main story. Like watching a movie, which follows every character in the movie, especially when they are not in the main storyline. It is cool, but a lot to follow. I am trying though. I also I wish I was able to get my hands on Deadpool #1-11. Just to see what Deadpool has to say about all of this. To end this rant. I really enjoy following this, but I wish it was more closely knit. I know I will not buy New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Elektra, or the Ms. Marvel DR archs. Other than Ms. Marvel they are not really involved. I think that Secret Warriors and Iron man will be the most important storylines to follow, so I agree with Dante. I think that the X-men storylines will have a big impact. Right now nothing can stop Osborn. Someone has to. I would love a form-up of the Heroes shown in the Iron Patriot Act Illustration, here is hoping. It would also be cool, if a bunch of Villains rose up and destroyed Osborn. I just hope Marvel knows how to end this. Because "The Darkest Night" is coming out and if done right. Marvel may be F-ed! What do you think? How do you think Dark Reign will end? Are you getting tired of trying to follow the storyline? Let me know

	JoshWilding - 6/18/2009, 10:10 AM Login to report abuse it would be good if Marvel made it a bit clearer instead of slapping the words DARK REIGN onto every title that is only slightly related to the overall storyline. i bought every single issue that said CIVIL WAR on and most were pretty relevent but then like with DARK REIGN following on from SECRET INVASION - THE INITIATIVE was just a bunch of titles that had very little to do with the fallout from CIVIL WAR. Now, I just make sure to only buy those that seem important or those that interest me-for example I wont be buying DARK REIGN: ZODIAC as it doesnt interst me but will be buying DARK REIGN: SINISTER SPIDER-MAN as it does! LOL

	ThoroughbredSteele0 - 6/18/2009, 11:39 AM Login to report abuse why is dark reign confusing? too many tie-ins, some of which are point less. marvel has a history of just slapping the banner of whatever major event is going on on any and all titles to sell more comics and get your money. during WWH they tied in two issues of ghost rider, but hulk was only on the last page of the first of those issues. i felt like I had wasted good money I could have spent on another title, or at least a tie-in that was an actual tie-in.
	alten2345 - 6/18/2009, 1:29 PM Login to report abuse If you're looking for a group of books that you "need" to read to get most if not all of the main storyline, I would suggest these: Anything written by Bendis involving Dark Reign Mighty Avengers New Avengers Iron Man Secret Warriors Amazing Spider-Man (or any Spidey title linked to Dark Reign) Thunderbolts Punisher (not the Max series) Uncanny X-Men (once they start getting to Dark Reign) Dark Avengers Plus I would read anything that comes out that deals with the Cabal. That can be a lot of books but it adds to the experience. The kind of books that I would say are "unnecessary" unless you just want to enhance the experience are the books like Dark Reign: Hawkeye, Dark Reign: Young Avengers, etc.
	Greenhatter02 - 6/18/2009, 1:54 PM Login to report abuse I would argue with you about Hawkeye, because he is one of Osborns guys. Just like Dark Wolverine should be read. In Hawkeye #3 Bullseye brings up the problem with OSborn. That is necessary no?
	alten2345 - 6/18/2009, 2:09 PM Login to report abuse @Greenhatter02 I think that was just a set up to discuss his own problems i.e. not remembering if he killed that senator or not. The story is about Bullseye more or less. I really don't see it moving the overall point of the storyline (the villains running the world "legitimately") forward.
