Well, that info on the action scenes just lost this movie my theater money. I'll wait for the dvd.

You can't really expect them to say: " Yeah, it totally sucks-!" , if it did.
However, I WILL go see this cuz' I trust Disney.

So basically he's saying it's an action movie without much action? Comparing it to Troy is never a good thing either. This guy is a little bias as well, he says he mostly liked it, and called the film sober and solemn. Not exactly the adjectives I was hoping for. I will go see this movie, but the vibe I got from this review was: I have been waiting most of my life for this movie, so even if it is mediocre I am going to think it's wonderful.

I will say this film gets a 60% from Rotten Tomatoes, but won't make a killing at the box office because of it's obscure story and awkward release date.

No one said here that the action is lame. Just that there should have been more of it. And I sure hope so that you are joking @MassExecutions.

RidiculousFanBoyDemands: It's not just that. The story is very much character-driven above all else. Especially the novel.

@WolvieCBM - NOPE! I'm not kidding. I think it will be a good movie, but if the effects are just used for pretty backgrounds, and awesome aliens that just stand around and talk, why see it on the big screen? Excellent story and acting are just as good on my TV.

I MIGHT go see it in theaters if people convince me a sequel is SO important that the theater numbers deserve to be boosted to guarantee one happens.

MassExecutions: You said you won't see the film because it doesn't THAT much action scenes. Are you seeing films just for the action scenes? I think not.

Nothing about the trailer appealed to me. I'd like to hear someone here talk about it who is familiar with the source material before I pay to see it on a big screen.

@WolvieCBM - No, I'm seeing films IN THEATERS just for the action scenes. Drama and comedy can wait for the small screen...which isn't that small anymore.

MassExecutions: Nothing, I just can't believe you are seeing films in theatres just for the action, that's all. And saying you won't see a film because it doesn't have (according to this one review) THAT much action scenes compared to LOTR, is ridiculous.

@WolvieCBM - Oh, if I find out this review is WRONG, and there IS more than a few minutes of spectacular action, then sure, I'll go see it in theaters.

I just don't see how having a theater screen improves the experience of movies that don't have a lot of visual spectacle. If I find out this movies DOES have enough, then I'll go to the theaters.
WolvieCBM
WolvieCBM - 2/17/2012, 1:22 PM
MassExecutions: Well, I'm sure it will have more than 5 minutes of action scenes. This review is just saying there should have been some more. From what I've heard, there are some awesome battle sequences in the film.
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 2/17/2012, 1:30 PM
I'll be seeing this at the theater in 3D. I'm sure there's more than 5 minutes of action in the film but that isn't the point to me. If this movie is true to the books (and the reviewer seems to think it is) everything they do and everyplace they go should be a visual spectacle.

I'm down with it. I only hope enough people go see it to warrant the cost of continuing the franchise to it's conclusion.

Glad to hear some positive reviews for it. I'm totally psyched. Got Book Two and Three, can't wait to start reading them. :) The first one was amazing.

Film looks great. I don't mind some changes from the books. The environment in the films looks as the way they described it in the book. :)
