Empire magazine conducted and easter egg round up a few days after Man Of Steel was released and there's one that has confirmed that there is an active Batman in this Universe. no.. Not just Bruce Wayne, his superhero alter ego.. The Batman himself is referenced in the Office when Zod first acquires his heat vision. In the Corner somewhere, there's a poster that boldly states

Of the easter egg Snyder had this to say
"You might even have to stop the movie to see it but it’s definitely in there. That’s a Double Negative Productions [Easter Egg]. D Neg is the visual effects company here in London that worked on all the Dark Knight movies, and they definitely did that. And [when I saw it], I was like, ‘That’s awesome."

There's more on the original article that even includes a nod to The Hulk! of all things.. go to the link provided for more.. so what do you think? Justice League nods or just fun props?

UPDATED ONE YEAR LATER: I guess DC knew what they were doing the entire time. In addition to the existence of Batman being canon now, other easter eggs have paid off in the form of Star Labs leading to Cyborg, Lex Luthor finally having a physical presence in this universe and hell, some who still believe those whales were a reference to Aquaman are reinforcing this belief with the rumored involment of the character in the film. WB/DC seems to be far ahead in their plans than we think.

Best... Easter Egg... Ever...
MexicanSuperman - 7/3/2013, 11:04 AM
That is freakin awesome, I think it would have been cool when zod and superman destroy Wayne's satellite a greenblight pasted by the screen to reference green lantern
ruadh - 7/3/2013, 11:15 AM

No offense, but I'm sure they have plenty of capable writers.
WorstUserNameEver - 7/3/2013, 11:16 AM

I wouldn't be so sure about that.
WorstUserNameEver - 7/3/2013, 11:17 AM
Ask Will Beall

Was trying to think of a left field choice to 'Godfather' the DCMU (sounds better than DCCU)...

How about Ronald D Moore? He has a similar (if not better) TV pedigree than Whedon but has that hard and dark edge which WB seem to be going for... the guy is supremely talented.

Might write an editorial about this.
ruadh - 7/3/2013, 11:37 AM
Well, to rephrase, writers who are MORE capable.
exirae - 7/3/2013, 11:37 AM
Grant Morrison should godfather the dccu
ruadh - 7/3/2013, 11:39 AM
deanwilkins - 7/3/2013, 11:41 AM
So if Batman is referenced in this film so directly (hidden, obviously)...

Then that completely screws over Clark Kent who's too afraid to come out and display his power. If there were hero's before Superman, what is his excuse for "hiding in the closet"?
That means he let his dad die for no reason.
Was he protecting his identity? He told the General he was from Kansas! Are you telling me not one cell phone got a picture of him during the mass destruction?

Goyer is a horrible, hack writer.

I hope the sequel will be handled by a different creative team.
ChrisEl - 7/3/2013, 11:44 AM
Frick the WB for not having the balls to even announce a Man of Steel Sequel. My prediction, Justice League movie.... expect it in the spring of two-thousand never.
DukeAcureds - 7/3/2013, 11:48 AM
Goyer is awesome. He's a pretty good writer, but that's not why he's awesome. He's awesome because he has been dancing geek to geek his whole career. He's literally our man on the inside. You cant y the same about Nolan or even Whedon. Their egos as artistes are too big (Whedon never used to have an ego, but I don't see how even somebody as humble as Joss can not have a huge-ass ego after Avengers). But Goyer has always put the material before himself. He's a bard.
Jollem - 7/3/2013, 11:51 AM
goyer is good. him and snyder are back on for MoS 2. goyer is most likely writing justice league. buckle in, put on a helmet. whatever ya gotta do to prepare yourselves
BadJoke - 7/3/2013, 11:51 AM
These easter eggs will never mean something if Warner doesn't announce and plan more DC movies. Let's hope that WB announce at least a Man of Steel sequel in Comic con.
ruadh - 7/3/2013, 12:08 PM
Like I said...not trying to offend, just haven't been too impressed with anything I've seen from you.
sintzu - 7/3/2013, 12:25 PM
lets see :

1- the wayne logo in the movie is the same as the one in the nolan movies

2- now we know that batman has been around before superman and saying to call batman must mean the world knows he saved gotham from a big threat like a bomb

i don't think these are a coincidence but lets wait and see what else comes up
MexicanSuperman - 7/3/2013, 12:35 PM
@ deanwilkins, yea cause an alien with super human powers that can destroy planets is the same as a vigilante who hides in the shadows and comes out at night to fight gangsters, insane murderers, and a few meta-humans.
MediaMan - 7/3/2013, 12:38 PM
No way to Grant Morrison.

And that is simply one of the greatest Easter Eggs *ever*!
DukeAcureds - 7/3/2013, 12:40 PM
I can't see how ignoring Batman Begins or The Dark Knight would be a good idea, at all. TDKR is a little more flexible.
Either way, it seems rather official, now, that Supes is not the first hero in the DCCU. This gives a little hope for World War II to be included in a Wonder Woman movie.
DukeAcureds - 7/3/2013, 12:43 PM
Also, why does everyone on the internet say that Dr Emil Hamilton works for StarLabs, in the movie? I've seen the film three times, so far and I've still not heard a StarLabs reference. I heard them say he was from DARPA, though, first time I saw it. Which would be the Cyborg reference that was said to be in there.
sintzu - 7/3/2013, 12:44 PM

even if they have rises in the mix wich they will there is a lot of ways to bring bruce back as batman
Emjeed - 7/3/2013, 12:47 PM
I think it's funny they did the little hulk Nod. When Superman gets on the roof, the white sign with green writing reads "106 days since last accident" then Zod hits him against the sign and the 1 and 6 fall off leaving it to read "0 days since last accident" Snyder thought it was just something cool for fans but nothing pertaining to DCU
Emjeed - 7/3/2013, 12:53 PM
And after all this they Keep saying Nolanverse is standalone
sintzu - 7/3/2013, 12:58 PM

i think they were just saiying that so if man of steel didn't do good it wown't effect it but now that the fans love it and it's making big $$$ they are going to have it part of the dark knight univers wich i'm ok with if they can make it work and at the same time i'm also ok with theme rebooting the series but if i had to choes i would say go with dark knight univers if you can make it work
SnapperCarr - 7/3/2013, 1:00 PM
I think this is just a joke cameo, not confirming that Batman exists before.
JayJayCAW - 7/3/2013, 1:06 PM
just re-watched it.....that poster is not there unless its among the falling debris, its not on the walls or computer desks or a screen saver.....nothing.

Now if it is in this movie, I highly doubt it means anything, it would mean the same amount as the Christopher Reeve cameo in The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 movie, its just a nice little nod, thats it.
ruadh - 7/3/2013, 1:07 PM
"Trust me. When I post the complete story you will."

Still don't trust. The samples of dialogue I've seen from you weren't too impressive. Unless you're just talking about a basic plot, which anyone can write a decent plot. Actually turning it into a compelling, page-turning screenplay is a whole other story. And making that something that is so good that a studio wouldn't change one word? Impossible.

But knock yourself out.
Emjeed - 7/3/2013, 1:20 PM
@JayJayCAW Zack Snyder has confirmed it.
JayJayCAW - 7/3/2013, 1:54 PM
@Emjeed, going to see it agin tonight on the big screen, that might help, still sanding by my other statement if it is there though lol
sanyaya - 7/3/2013, 2:18 PM
hulk easter egg marvel going to be pissed on that one
ruadh - 7/3/2013, 2:23 PM
I didn't see where they mentioned the Hulk in that list...which one was it?
Transforminator - 7/3/2013, 2:35 PM
^The sign where it changes from 106 Days Since Last Accident to 0 Days... when Superman gets knocked into it by Zod. Its the last easter egg in the article.
ruadh - 7/3/2013, 2:46 PM
Ah...pretty obscure. I doubt anyone connected to Marvel is going to be even close to pissed. Thanks!
JULEZ13 - 7/3/2013, 2:51 PM
Batman existing before Superman?? That is stupid and I can't say I like it. smh
Grayson7954 - 7/3/2013, 3:09 PM
is levi a screenwriter all of a sudden? I hope you have taken some screenwriting classes because I will be all up on that
BarnaclePete - 7/3/2013, 3:10 PM
An effects company sneaks a poster in the movie and suddenly that confirms Batman exists oreads in the pat universe? Ok. What ever you say.
lucio7lopez - 7/3/2013, 7:47 PM
Grant Morrison should godfather the dccu

He or Geoff Johns!
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 7/3/2013, 10:40 PM
Bruce Timm is the Godfather folks. Morrison and Johns can't do anything outside paper and pencil to save their irrelevant, pathetic lives.
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 7/3/2013, 10:41 PM
Also, get Scott Snyder to watch over or even [frick]ing write the next Batman installments.
Gyasiman - 7/4/2013, 7:27 AM
Even if the FX team snuck this in there with out Snyder knowing about it ( read the article to see he does), since its in the movie, it HAS to be canon. They cannot say "it was just a little nod" because the poster exist in this universe , alas Batman exists in this universe (which we already knew hint Wayne Enterprises). They cannot rewrite time and space and say "part of the movie is not canon". Just wouldn't work.

It's just like the Captain America shield in Iron Man. It may have just been a "little nod" but it confirmed that he did indeed exist in the MCU, which he does.

The question now is, why would a guy in metropolis have a "Keep calm and call Batman" poster. Exactly how active is he now?
