As a show of his support for the controversial casting of Ben Affleck, William Shatner tweeted to the acclaimed director and then proceeded to nominate himself for the role of Alfred Pennyworth. The ever loyal and reliable butler,father figure and confidante of the Caped Crusader. The original tweet reads as follows;

@BenAffleck Congratulations! If you need an Alfred let me know! ;-)
— William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) August 23, 2013

Shatner is known for his humorous utterances so this could be him just trying to rile up some fanboys, but it's still fun. So in the highly unlikely possibility that he somehow get's that role, what do you guys think?

My wishlist cast for Alfred are Christoph Waltz,Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley...
LEEE777 - 8/28/2013, 11:44 AM

Emjeed - 8/28/2013, 11:47 AM
@DCjohnny Christoph Waltz will be phenomenal! I heard former 007 Tim Dalton is the frontrunner though
Elbarto63 - 8/28/2013, 11:49 AM
How about NO?

Please Shat, if you are actually serious, dont embarass yourself any more. Just stop it. You were Kirk, and thats it. Stop begging for roles in movies.

Christoph Waltz? Why would Alfred be German? Anyway, with a 40-something Batman, Alfred should be at least in his 70s. As long as it isn't another Cockney, I don't really care. Hmm... how's Adam West's English accent?
Emjeed - 8/28/2013, 12:07 PM
@REX That would be a very nice nod to his past as the Batman
RexDartEskimoSpy - 8/28/2013, 12:09 PM
Austrian, not German. Pardon my error, Herr Waltz.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 8/28/2013, 12:17 PM
Plus, Adam West, like William Shatner, is fvcking awesome. They're both hilariously self-deprecating and appreciative of how much we fanboys have done for their careers.

My buddy came up with this idea for a movie or sitcom where Shatner and West would play two aged geeks running a comics shop. Can you imagine?
Highflyer - 8/28/2013, 12:18 PM
it would be different that's for sure.
DCjohnny - 8/28/2013, 12:19 PM
i totally agree with you but I still support Christoph Waltz as learning a British accent is not a big deal and with little make up you can make him look more older...

by the way it doesn't matter what the actor's nationality is... what matters is the acting capability (which I think Christoph has)
TTT0809 - 8/28/2013, 12:32 PM
lol Levi
BobGarlen - 8/28/2013, 12:40 PM
I thought he'd say Commissioner Gordon
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/28/2013, 1:17 PM
Don't see why not. Would love to see the other candidates for the role as Alfred, but yeah... Don't mind Shatner as Bats' faithful old butler.
JorEllinator - 8/28/2013, 1:18 PM
BatFleck: You think you know everything about me, don't you?
ShatFred: I..........diapered.........your.............bottom...........I.......bloody.......well.........ought.........to!

DaVinci31 - 8/28/2013, 1:23 PM
I wanted Scott Glenn but I dig this.

SaxoWolf - 8/28/2013, 1:25 PM
King Theoden could do it.

maninfinesuit - 8/28/2013, 1:28 PM
Watch Carnage. Christoph Waltz cannot cover up his accent no matter how hard he tries, nor should he ever have to.

fettastic - 8/28/2013, 1:35 PM
I love the Shat. Bring this shit!
fettastic - 8/28/2013, 1:36 PM

Danbojohnj - 8/28/2013, 1:41 PM
Can totally see it,out the box casting like Downey Jr was for IM.
All hail the Shat.
Phlegmbot - 8/28/2013, 1:47 PM
I like the above-mentioned rumor of Timothy Dalton. That's fun casting.

As good as he was on Boston Legal, I can't believe for even a second Shatner could do a convincing British accent.
ralfinader - 8/28/2013, 1:53 PM
Shatner as Alfred would make MOS2 the movie that finally spanked Avatarded.
JaiHo - 8/28/2013, 1:53 PM
Shatner would make an awesome Granny Goodness.
Emjeed - 8/28/2013, 1:57 PM
Lol I made main. YAY!!
spidey1994 - 8/28/2013, 1:59 PM
GodzillaKart - 8/28/2013, 2:00 PM
@JaiHo: That's actually a great call! Denny Craine as Granny Goodness!
OldBenKenobi - 8/28/2013, 2:03 PM
This would be amazing in so many ways.
tacobender - 8/28/2013, 2:07 PM
Adam West for ALFRED!!!
SuperAwesomeBadassness - 8/28/2013, 2:11 PM
And meanwhile, Corey Feldman wants to be Damian Wayne.
ChaosLord - 8/28/2013, 2:16 PM
Why the hell not? Most of the cast is already dooming this movie...why not add more Shat?
missalexis - 8/28/2013, 2:20 PM
Come on... maybe the Penguin or Tweedle Dee, but not Alfred
baldric33 - 8/28/2013, 2:21 PM
Bill Shatner being in that movie would be about the only reason that I would consider going to see it.
malreyn - 8/28/2013, 2:22 PM
I love the Shat but, no. The only reason I could see anyone even considering it is because he vaguely resembles Michael Caine, who was great in the role but didn't ressemble Alfred at all. Shatner would neither look like Alfred or be able to act the role as well as Caine. Maybe if it was supposed to be a comedy or a throwback to the campy days of the characters.

It basically goes back to Damon's comment showing that people generally know the movies better than the source (Batman is just a guy that growls a lot) and continue trying to emulating something that was itself an emulation. If Shatner got the role, I would see Shatner attempting to act as Caine acting as Alfred in the same way that I saw Spacey acting as Hackman acting as Luthor. The difference being that Caine was a faux Alfred in appearance and Hackman was a faux luthor in character.

I doubt he was serious, anyway, but probably would accept if offered.
