The Hobbit in HFR in 3D: Review of the technology

There has been alot of critisism surrounding the higher frame rate version of the Hobbit such as: it looks soap-opera-ish or like a stage play. Other people say it looks jarring but after the first thirty minutes you get used to it. As for me I went in with a completely open mind.

There has been alot of critisism surrounding the higher frame rate version of the Hobbit such as: it looks soap-opera-ish or like a stage play. Other people say it looks jarring but after the first thirty minutes you get used to it. As for me I went in with a completely open mind. I found that it looked (initially) like the footage shot for a cheap documentary trying to recreate an event. However that feeling quickly goes away (within the first five or ten minutes). I also found that the HFR looks even better from a distance (such as when they did landscape shots).

I found that after watching the movie I couldn't recall a single scene in the movie without also remembering the incredible 3D that came with it. Now I normally don't remember 3D when I see a movie. But I found that I can only remember watching the movie with the 3D... You know that stuff directors will say about how 3D "Immerses" you. I was never inclined to believe that crap. However I have found that with the HFR it is actually kinda sorta more true... Again I am no advocate of 3D but I must say, I was COMPLETELY immersed in what was going on in a way that I haven't felt before while watching a movie. (Proceed with the mocking. *zips up flame suit)

As I said in the Title I am not actually going to review the movie, just the technology. If you have a theater nearby that is showing the movie in HFR and also have an open mind, GO freaking SEE IT IN HFR!
