Greeting fellow CBMers! It has been to long since I have graced this fair site with news, but when fellow Tennessean and comic writer, Eric Powell, makes a headline, you can be sure I will not be far behind. (Seriously, his house is like 45 minutes from me).
Powell sat down with MTV recently and gave a much anticipated update to the adaptation of his cult comic hit, Goon.
The movie is being produced by David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and it is Powell's prediction that as soon as Fincher is done with his current project, Goon is a go!
Powell states the first draft of the script has been completed and is going through the standard renovations. However, if you have any fears of the changes that come from comic adaptations, Powell had this to say, "We had to adapt it for the film, but I wrote the script — so The Goon doesn't fall from the sky in a meteor or have superpowers or anything like that. . ."
He continues, "It is The Goon and it has the feel of the The Goon. The story had to change a little to get it to work in a film format, but the characters, the world, and the interaction between the characters are all the same."
Ever since the little taste of the Goon movie was granted at Comic-Con, all of us "Goonies" have been waiting on edge for any updates that come our way, and this is certainly great news to hear!
