10 Comic book heroes that I think deserve a movie...
These are the top 10 comic book superheroes that I feel need a new movie, reboot, or more movies sometime soon...
I recently saw an article on here discussing what heroes the writer thought would benefit from a big screen film, so I decided to compile a list of my own. Please enjoy and leave your opinion in the comment section!
10. Black Panther
The Black Panther, well currently I can think of five movie attempts at a black superhero within the last two decades. Those being: Steel, Catwoman (2004), Storm, War Machine and Nick Fury. But out of those five, both Steel and Catwoman were total flops and most of us don't even remember them. Also War Machine and Nick Fury are both considered minor characters in the MCU, I think Storm might be the only good one and even then those X-Men films haven't been that great. But anyways, I think Panther could be a great hero to adapt for film, he would fill in the very large gap right now as far as African-American heroes, but he's still so much more than just a black token. He would definitely be set in MCU which means all of the Marvel people would already be prepared to see him, not to mention he's very similar to Batman so he could definitely reach out to the millions of Bat-fans and give them a little taste of the Black Panther. All around, Panther has the potential for a big hit character.
9. Green Lantern
As we all know, Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern was a major flop. I don't feel that the movie did Hal Jordan any justice at all, he deserves better. Anyways, I think that DC would benefit from rebooting this series, but honestly I think a point needs to driven into the people at Warner Bros. The point being, that people like us love things like Green Lantern, The Spirit, Jonah Hex, etc. But in recent years they haven't given us anything outside of Batman and Watchmen that's even worth our time, I say "C'mon Warner bros, take a little pride in your work, these are our heroes..." they really need to step up their game and stop releasing crap films like Green Lantern, Catwoman, Jonah Hex, The Spirit, Batman & Robin, Superman Returns, etc. Green Lantern needs to be rebooted immediately In order to show the world that they can actually change and do better.
8. Namor the Sub-Mariner
Namor the Sub-Mariner, the ORIGINAL comic book king of the seas... not that punk rip off known as Aquaman. Anyways, Namor needs his own movie and I bet he could pull in a big part of Thor's crowd. Many of Thor's current fans are girls who think he's cute, but also people who like the hero and also feel that he is a protector of his land and that he would do most anything to protect it. That's not to say that guys don't like Thor because I do, but I think you get my point. I believe that Namor would attract the same kind of fans because he too is considered a ladies man and he too is the guardian of a sacred land and he too is a major power house just like Thor. Also, I think the world needs to know that Namor is the true and original king of the sea, because most of the general audience believes that Aquaman came first... and he didn't so I feel Namor deserves much more respect than he gets, and he can make it with a new movie.
Deathstroke, the assassin. Well, there is always talk of a Deadpool film but it never actually comes around does it? I think we should just screw Deadpool and go with Slade instead. He's got much more of what's called a "cool factor" than Deadpool, and not to mention that Deadpool is just a knock off of Deathstroke anyway. I think Deathstroke would appeal to the Wolverine/Punisher fans that are so common today, as far as his powers and abilities and his missions and just the whole feel of his stories. He could definitely become a smash hit with all the people who are into things like Wolverine, The Punisher, Dredd, etc. he could make it big. Oh, and please don't hate on me for calling Aquaman and Deadpool ripoffs because...well...they are. But that's not to say they aren't good characters, but I feel that the original deserves more credit.
Man-Thing, the monster of the marshes. Again, please don't hate me for this... but Man-Thing deserves a good film before Swamp Thing does. Because Man-Thing was first, and as I already said the original deserves more than the knock off. Anyways, Man-Thing's only film adaptation was sent directly to SyFy channel, so it wasn't seen by most. Man-Thing needs a good film, I think that he could connect to people like...well...me (a hardcore fan of Hulk, Thing and Chewbacca) people like me that dig monstrous heroes that do the right thing, but might leave a bit (okay, well a lot) of wreckage. I could see a horde of Hulk fans rushing towards this and claiming a new 2nd favorite...
Well, the X-Men films starring Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, etc. weren't all that good in my opinion." X2: X-Men United" was the highest point in the entire series and it was still slightly above average at its best. I think the current X-Men universe just needs to die, and then restart completely. With a film featuring the five original heroes, and hey you know what? Let's ditch Wolverine please, I'd say give Wolverine his own series of solo films. He's popular and he deserves his own movies, but not at the expense of the other characters. That was my biggest problem with the X-Men Trilogy was that almost everyone gets duped for Wolverine. He became too much of a screen time hog, so I say we ditch him the second time around. In the first film of a new series, use ONLY the first five: Beast, Cyclops, Angel, Jean Grey and Iceman. Then maybe introduce Storm in the sequel...
Venom!!! Spider-Man's most dangerous adversary who really means well if you look at it from the proper perspective. Naturally, I was disgusted with Venom's portrayal in "Spider-Man 3" he seemed too weak in appearance and he had little to no character development. Anyway, on the same note as Deathstroke, I think Venom could appeal to the Anti-Hero crowd that is so large right now... Dredd, Wolverine, Punisher, and even Green Arrow fans are gonna go for this. I think that the world is ready for Venom!!! He could showcase that he's not just another Spidey villain but that he's also a hero himself, regardless of what people may think.
3. The Flash
The fastest man alive, well where do I start? Flash hasn't had a movie that I can recall, but he definitely needs one. I think Flash has the potential to become the next Spider-Man, I say use Wally West Flash, so that the humor can come across more. But really I could see Flash as the next mega hit for kids all around to world to idolize just like Spider-Man, the humor plus great heroics... Ooh, I can see it now, thousands of kids running as fast as possible pretending to be the Flash!!! This could be a major score for DC.
2. The Hulk
Well, Hulk has just gotta be hands down my favorite comic book hero ever. He's always been the best one in my opinion, he fights to protect people that hate him, he gets no reward for his heroics, in fact he usually receives punishment for his heroic actions. That's beside the point, but I think Hulk definitely, without a doubt needs a few more films. I felt that Norton was the best Hulk, but hey Ruffalo did a fantastic job. Hulk needs more movies in order to get the general audience more used to Ruffalo's Hulk. I mean if people compare Hulk from "The Incredible Hulk" to the one in "The Avengers" they'd be shocked at the differences and get confused. So I think we need a new Hulk solo, so that everyone can confirm that Ruffalo IS the established Hulk.
Daredevil, the best of the night vigilantes (in my opinion, anyway) I personally feel that the previous Daredevil film is quite underrated, it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. Even though it could have (and should have) been way better. Daredevil needs this more than any of the other heroes, he deserves much more big screen attention than anyone else on my list. Daredevil is definitely, without a doubt one of the top ten greatest comic book heroes ever invented. He deserves more than what he got, it's as simple as that.
I also think that both Batman and Fantastic Four need reboots, but not not yet. If Aquaman, Deadpool and Swamp Thing get movies they need to come after the originals in my opinion, even if they're not the most popular. If I was going to pick one more I'd say Nick Fury needs some attention...also the Sentry needs a good solo film, but not tied in with MCU.
Well that's all folks!! As always feedback and red glove are appreciated, and please don't take offense at my jabs toward Deadpool, Aquaman and Swamp Thing, I meant no disrespect to those characters.
