Reasons why The Dark Knight Rises is my favorite of the trilogy

I'm listing only 5 reasons why. This is another fun article and is pure opinion...

As the teaser states, this is pure opinion. I will not allow bashing or anything ignorant in the comments section cause it makes no sense to do so about someone's opinion. Yes, I will acknowledge that The Dark Knight Rises has flaws (Marrion Cotillard still can't act for crap) but so doesn't Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Here are five reasons why The Dark Knight Rises is my favorite of the Nolan trilogy.

Acknowledging the previous film(s)

This is a problem I had with, The Dark Knight. It felt more as a standalone sequel throughout most of the film, rather than acknowledging the previous film. It still bugs me to this day. That's one thing I liked about the finale and what I call "the wrapper" of the series. It ties both films into a fitting conclusion.

There is more to talk about

This is more nitpicking than anything but still. There are only three things people talk about when, The Dark Knight enters discussion. 1) Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker 2) Dark and Gritty 3) The realism. I'm sorry but it's true. At least from what I have seen and from the discussions I've entered about the film. The Dark Knight Rises leaves you more to talk about, hell, even Batman Begins there is more to talk about than there is to, The Dark Knight.

It's engaging

Don't get me wrong. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were both great but, they both dragged. More so, The Dark Knight than Batman Begins. I'm not talking that, The Dark Knight Rises is more engaging cause of more action. It's more engaging even in the slower and more dramatic parts of the movie. The acting helped make it engaging, especially Tom Hardy as Bane but we will get to that later.

No real love interest

No, I'm not counting Catwoman. No, I'm not counting Marrion Cotillard and her horrible, so called "acting" either. The one thing that helped drag down The Dark Knight was the love interest. Now, don't get me wrong. It worked for the movie and helped improve it as it went on. But, one of the best things about The Dark Knight Rises is that there is no love interest to hold the movie back. No flat romance that was seen in the previous films. This film had a hell of a story and got straight to the point.

A new villain

Physically, he isn't the same Bane from the comics. But, spiritually he is. What I mean by new villain is that, there is finally a villain in a Batman movie that feels threatening, he feels scary and it's an "oh shit" sort of moment when you see him. Heath Ledger was phenomenal as The Joker and deserved that academy award and the presence, The Joker had was just wow. But, Tom Hardy of course plays a different type of villain. This villain felt threatening, I was legit scared of this dude when he was on screen. Especially during his first fight with Batman. When I saw it in the theater, I was "oh damn, shit just got real. This is one scary ass mother f*cker". The Joker was a more fun villain and was engaging but, I felt Hardy as Bane was more engaging. I'm not saying Bane was better because they're both a different type of villain. So, it really wouldn't be fair to say that one was better than the other. It's about preferance. I prefer Hardy as Bane.

Overall: I love The Dark Knight trilogy. Every movie was great in a different way. But, these are reasons I enjoyed, The Dark Knight Rises the most. What do you think? What was your favorite and why? @LEVITIKUZ Add to the fact the league of shadows are group of ninjas that take down corrupt cities swiftly and silently then move on to the next city. Yet in rises they aren't dressed like ninjas, they take the city hostage revealing themselves to the world, they are willing to kill themselves while doing so and waiting 5 months to do it. Which doesn't make sense considering everything Ra's says about the league in begins. The LOS basically infiltrate the city, f*ck shit up, get out as fast as they came in and move on to the next place. In league In begins and rises do not add up.
MrReese - 12/17/2012, 10:14 AM
@LEVI Didn't Nolan say he didn't know bout making a sequel but left the joker card as chance 2. He did it again with TDKR 2 till he finally came round & wanted 2 finish the story. My point is he didn't know from the get go he would be making a sequel let alone a trilogy. My best guess is,he was just trying 2 make the story come full circle for the sake of it.He didn't know he'd be using Bane what....10 yrs later. He just tweaked the story in his favor...but ur right tho haha. XD

@Spidey that was b4 Ra's died tho. After he died Talia & Bane ran shit & differently most likely. They were in Gotham 4 1 thing only & that was 2 finish Ra's job. I'm pretty sure they weren't gonna b hiding, seeing as how all of them were willing 2 die 4 said cause. Maybe it was a mixture of Talias followers (the league) & Bane followers (mercenaries) seeing as how he was excommunicated. Loyal ass goons nonetheless. XD
Mystery - 12/17/2012, 11:42 AM
For me Batman Begins is still the ultimate Batman movie, best costume, origin story, and a hell of a surprise factor to begin with after the god-awful Bat nipples.
TheRaven20 - 12/17/2012, 1:35 PM
When Ra's said "we" sacked Rome and burned London I think he was implying that the League did, not Ra's himself. The League was around for alot longer than Neeson's Ra's was.
TheRaven20 - 12/17/2012, 1:36 PM
@Mystery and that is why Batman begins is and always will be my favorite. i loved TDK and Rises but Begins is the ultimate superhero film for me.
gmoney0505 - 12/17/2012, 1:57 PM
@Spideyguy94
The way the league is ran now is different from when Ra's ran it. One of the reason why Bane was kicked out was due to differenes with Ra's and Bane on how they do things. The league we see in Rises is being led differently than we see in Begins cause of Bane and have a different motivation.

@LEVITIKUZ
We do not know Ra's age at all. It is just an estimate. For all we know Ra's was not the leader then anyway but still ran into Bruce parents. If I remember correctly when Ra's speaks about the things the league does, he always say we as in the league instead of just saying I or myself.
Brainiac13 - 12/17/2012, 2:00 PM
I read the script for BB in 2004 and felt the movie would b the best Batman movie ever....And it was!
@TheRaven20

I agree
AC1 - 12/17/2012, 3:37 PM
@LEVITIKUZ when Ra's says 'We sacked Rome, loaded trade-ships with plague rats, burned London to the ground' he means the League of Shadows as an organization, not that he was actually there. In the Nolan films, the League of Shadows is a centuries old organization and Ra's is simply the latest (and greatest) leader, but he's not the founder and he's not centuries old, and he wasn't actually there. He's simply trying to impress Bruce with the things the organization has achieved throughout history, to try an convince him to join them properly.

I agree about Gotham though, it definitely didn't feel like Gotham in TDK or TDKR (in TDK it seemed like a generic US city, and in TDKR it was just New York).
Tainted87 - 12/17/2012, 3:59 PM
No real love interest?
Did we forget why Bruce enters the batcave for the first time in eight years? Selina gave him a boner. I know that's crass, but that is what it boils down to. He's excited by her, and she leads him into a trap.

I'm sorry man, I give you props for trying, but I can't agree with any of these points. The acting and dialogue were horrible on nearly every front from the padded cast (not really supporting, just minor characters), not to mention the direction these characters take borderlines on delusional.

We're supposed to buy Police Chief (or was he some other rank) Foley calling off the pursuit of Bane's men (who have a hostage) simply because Batman has returned?
The Senator who is all over Selina... because he's scripted to be all over Selina. The annoyingly boring Daggett who acts like a more ambitious Earle and spews some of the most boorish tripe - even asks Bane "what are you?" The super emasculated assistant to Daggett also does nothing but over-act to try to stand as a foil for establishing Selina and Bane. The CIA agent in the prologue who basically sets the bar for being an idiot in a position of authority....

They wear it down. They make me facepalm.
bazinga85 - 12/17/2012, 4:09 PM
1. The Dark Knight(perfect movie)
2. The Dark Knight Rises(unbelievably pleasing ending to a great series)
3. Batman Begins(perfect "batman" movie)

*The margin of greatness between these movie though, is very close.
Jollem - 12/17/2012, 4:48 PM
you're very brave for saying you like this movie. usually, there is a small handful of schoolyard bullies ready to mock and put down anyone who says so. beware :)
ThunderKat - 12/17/2012, 8:26 PM
You should re-read and edit your editorials so there is clear flow and makes sense.

TDKR was a mediocre movie. TDK further established a sense of reality to the series. Bruce is basically debilitated before he fights Bane. Afterward, he wills himself heal...and he sure heals in a very short amount of time. In a sense, he returns better and is able to defeat Bane. This is before I get to the taking of Gotham scenario.
EdgyOutsider - 12/17/2012, 10:15 PM
Imadick: you misinterpreted what I said. You can disagree and be vocal about it but, it has to be in a respectful manner. I won't stand bashing my opinion, the article or others opinions.
comiccow6 - 12/18/2012, 4:04 AM
^^Agreed. And no love interest? Bruce (frick)in SLEEPS with Talia, and runs off with Selina. Every film in the series has a damn new villain, that's invalid. Engaging? I was nearly asleep by the time the Pit came on. Already agree with @JStark. And if there's more to talk about, it's only criticism. From me. Dark Knight Rises was crap. And if i get banned or reported for voicing my opinion, (frick) you.
EdgyOutsider - 12/18/2012, 6:09 AM
@comiccrow: I didn't say no love interest. I said no real love interest. For me, the whole Talia thing doesn't count cause it was to quick and pointless (not to mention she can't act for crap) and there was no actual love between Batman and Catwoman. For me, I found it more engaging than The Dark Knight and there is more to talk about. Well, at least for me cause there is more interesting things going on and the acting among the cast from the previous films are worth talking about. I feel they didn't do anything with their roles in The Dark Knight.

Also, you also misinterpreted what I was saying. I was going to delete the comment if you were disrespectful to me, the article or another user.
marvel72 - 12/18/2012, 6:25 AM
batman begins had it all & this is why its the best batman movie.

-the origin of batman
-best costume
-batmobile
-bat-cave
-two new villains we hadn't seen before
-good soundtrack
-well written

as for the dark knight rises it had its moments but i really can't see why anyone likes it,don't get me wrong obviously you're seeing something i'm not but for the life of me i don't know what it is.

too many flaws in the story didn't like banes voice didn't like hathaway as selina kyle.

the best comic book movie trilogy? yes but only because of the strength of the first two & it really hasn't got any competition at the moment.

1st the dark knight trilogy
2nd spider-man trilogy
3rd x-men trilogy
4th blade trilogy
EdgyOutsider - 12/18/2012, 6:53 AM
marvel72: Really? I didn't think Hathaway would have been a good Catwoman. To me, I was proven wrong.
superbatspiderman - 12/18/2012, 9:18 AM
I loved all three Batman movies equally so I don't like to choose them. Each one had things I liked about them.

On a side note did anyone here about Sandy Brooks school (the one that got shot up) was mentioned in THe Dark Knight Rises. Kind of crazy.
bazinga85 - 12/18/2012, 2:54 PM
@SUPERBATSPIDERMAN
No it wasn't.
superbatspiderman - 12/18/2012, 3:00 PM
I heard it somewhere. There is a scene where you see a map and I guess on the map is Sandy Hook. I think they debunk the conspiracy that there is another location called Sandy Hook or something like that.
MrReese - 12/18/2012, 3:40 PM
@Marvel72 How can u not like this scene?

When she goes from shooting 2 screaming as soon as the cops walk in, was brilliant imo. I member watching it the 1st time lmao like this sneaky betch. Haha Felt like punching her 2 when she screws Bats over lol That betch knew she did wrong when Bane says "Mr.Wayne" XD

PeterParker1991 - 12/19/2012, 12:59 PM
I thought TDKR is the best in the trilogy too. Batman Begins is my second favorite. TDK in my opinion is overrated. Argue all you want but it is. My main issue with TDKR is how Blake is ascending to take on the mantle of Gotham's protecter... yet he has no training, money and he's too young to be Batman. The more I watch it the more I question that but for the sake of the story, which is over, it's okay
EdgyOutsider - 12/19/2012, 5:27 PM
brazilianbatman: I found Batman vs Bane and the bank heist in TDKR to be the most exciting scenes in a Batman movie ever. That's just pure opinion. I know I will be contradicting myself here but, for as much as I love TDK, I find it to be highly over rated. I had to watch it twice before I truly enjoyed it cause it did nothing but drag unless The Joker was on screen.
Supes17 - 12/19/2012, 5:57 PM
That's Marvel72's opinion. He's entitled to it.
I think Hathaway did an amazing job, but they should have went with a hotter actress.

The Dark Knight is still my favorite.
dellamorte1872 - 12/19/2012, 6:08 PM
i agree about the movie dragging on (as far as TDK is concerned) and yes it was best when THE JOKER was on screen but; HE'S BATMANS PREMIERE NEMESIS! the writing was better in TDK, as well as the music. TDKR had traces of; 1-NO MANS LAND, 2-VENGENCE OF BANE, 3-A TALE OF TWO CITIES. each film has 2 primary sources.

R.B =
YEAR ONE
THE LONG HALLOWEEN

TDK =
KILLING JOKE
LONG HALLOWEEN

TDKR just had lazy uninspired writing and anyone who likes that film is entitled but....it is the WORST of the trilogy. sad but true. B.B is the best "BATMAN" origin ever (the DUCARD/RAS comvo can be forgiven) and TDK features the BEST villain (arguably accepted by most), but TDKR? the best and only redeemable scene is ACTUALLY seeing the "breaking of the bat" other than that? it is filled in extraneous plot holes that i wont waste time trying to articulate. TDKR is waaaaaaaaay better than FOREVER and B + R. but thats not hard. did TDKR eclipse the 2 that preceded this? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
dellamorte1872 - 12/19/2012, 6:15 PM
the inclusion of the TALE OF TWO CITIES shit i felt was pretentious and lazy like the J. NOLAN was trying to mimic literary concepts and not comic books. both are forms of literature but in the end its like comparing mashed potatoes to french fries. yes they are both potatoes, hence; literature. but the shouldnt be compared or combined past that. both p revise films also reference a LONG HALLOWEEN how could they not find a way to make TDKR meld with that incarnation
dellamorte1872 - 12/19/2012, 6:18 PM
its like....."here people are dumb, no one will get it"
BatmanBlueLantern - 12/19/2012, 8:53 PM
I personally like TDKR the best, but yeah.
dellamorte1872 - 12/20/2012, 6:13 AM
the story needed that LONG HALLOWEEN vibe like the previous two films but instead we get a "story" that sounds intriguing on the surface but its actual articulation was horrendous. i wasnt as disliking of the finished product as SM3 but my disappointment was on the same level
dellamorte1872 - 12/20/2012, 6:14 AM
the story is soooooo unoriginal and uninspired
dellamorte1872 - 12/20/2012, 6:17 AM
THANK YOU! i like that you see the hypocrisy in this story. i told you J. NOLAN was like the popcorn crowd isnt refined to know literature we'll pass this off to them and theyll applaud my originality
dellamorte1872 - 12/20/2012, 6:26 AM
if this film was scrutinized over for another year in conception instead of being rushed into production as quick as possible the story/film would have BEEN way better. probably lol, but NOLAN did want to finish it quick and put this whole BATMAN thing behind him as an artist
dellamorte1872 - 12/20/2012, 8:06 AM
one of my MANY grievances with TDKR but no one mentions; TALIA AL GHUL. great to include her, thematically its perfect like a three act play BUT why did she have to camouflage herself as MIRANDA TATE? anyone who knew the source knew she was TALIA even before it was official. but RAS already "disguised" his true i.d why would they rehash the SAME concept? plus BANE couldnt wear his true mask in ONE scene? just one, thats all. shit JOKER didnt have the chemical aspect so dont give BANE the venom aspect. JOKER still had the "look" BANE looks like a Cobra agent or a reject from the ninja guild SUB-ZERO + SCORPION are in. but believe me i have tons more complaints lol
EdgyOutsider - 12/20/2012, 8:53 AM
Dellamorte1872: I agree with the whole Talia thing. They could've handled it much better, not to mention getting someone that can actually act. As far as Banes mask goes. It would've looked dumb, especially on Tom Hardy. I liked the look of Bane in TDKR, he came off menacing. Something's dont translate to screen well. Bane would've looked as dumb if not dumber than he did in Batman and Robin. There is no way to pull of the look of characters like Bane or Electro without completely changing the look so it don't ridiculous on screen.
dellamorte1872 - 12/20/2012, 1:42 PM
i disagree entirely dude. its all how its played. dont make it look like a kinky dominatrix which is how alot of the concept art looked. wrong! too far in the direction. i agree leave his look like that like 80% of the time but show him in a stocking like simplistic mask. keep everything else the same as far as his attire. but with his respirator underneath it woulda looked good. it just had to be designed right i mean SPIDEY doesnt need eye holes
DumbledoreCalrissian - 1/21/2013, 10:48 PM
rises sucked big fan of the other two, but rises just sucked for me i think this trailer explains all.

Azan - 7/19/2013, 10:24 AM
yes, i agree the dark knight rises was the best of the trilogy. A lot of people wouldnt agree, and I think i know why. heath ledgers performance as the joker was extraordinary, and the dark knight was a great movie, but the main reason why most people choose the second movie of the trilogy as their fav is because heath ledger is dead. People are like 'bane's nothing compared to the joker' and blah blah blah, as the writer of this article mentioned, both these villans are great in their own ways, just because heath died DOES NOT make The Dark Knight better than The Dark Knight Rises, of course most people wont agree that this is the reason why they hate the last movie of the trilogy, its because theyre obsessed with the joker.
Dont get me wrong, I loved his acting and all, but that DID NOT and never will cloud my judgement on TDKR, it did have its flaws, but overall, it was an epic movie IMO.
Azan - 7/19/2013, 10:37 AM
@dumbledorecalBULLSHIT There is also a video, Honest Trailers - The dark knight, it also explains everything about the movie.

I loved TDK as well, but TDKR was better. One more reason why SOME people hate TDKR, is because it was the first movie they watched in the trilogy( because of how famous it was and still is), and got [frick]ed up because they couldnt understand half the movie since the storyline is related much more to batman begins than TDK is.
