The title holds no secrets. I prefer the leader of The Avengers over the leader of the Justice League. This is pure opinion and is meant to be a friendly debate. Here are five reasons why I prefer Captain America over Superman.

5: More interesting villains

Red Skull, Baron Zemo, Madame Hydra, Crossbones, ect. That's just a small sample of examples of Captain America's rogues gallery. I will use Crossbones (my favorite) as an example. He's ruthless, he's brutal, and he's the anti Captain America. Sure, you can argue that the same can go for villains in Superman's rogues gallery like Lex Luthor, General Zod, ect. I'm not big on a realistic approach to superheroes but, outside of Batman. Captain America (& Iron Man) are the most realistic and for me, Captain America works.

4: The Winter Soldier

This story arc alone is simply amazing. It's exciting, dramatic but also heart wrenching. You feel really bad for Captain America once he gets to the point and just tells Bucky "Shoot me". This has to be one of, if not THE best Captain America story arc.

3: Nothing illogical

I've never found anything illogical about Captain America. For Superman, he always took off the glasses and then he was Superman. Really? He wears glasses and people are automatically fooled. That is wow. I've never liked that part of Superman. I don't mean the whole superpower thing. I just speak in general.

2: He needs one thing.

Every superhero has spirit. Most have superpowers and some have lots of gadgets. For Captain America, he only has one thing. His shield. Sure, he took the super solider serum and it's pretty much the perfect steroid. Some argue that without it, he would be nothing and that's true. But, he can fight hand to hand and outside of that, he needs only his shield. No superpowers or gadgets required.

1: He's not perfect

To me, Superman has always came off as "Perfect" but, that's not Captain America. Physically, yes he is perfect. But, he can make mistakes. Even though he is the ideal of what every person should aspire to be, he does wrong. If I remember correctly (I may not have it right so, I apologize ahead of time) Captain America was going to beat Iron Man to death during the climatic battle during Civil War. It's also one of the many reasons he is one of my favorite superheroes. It's cause he's not perfect despite being the ideal of what ever person should aspire to be.

Which do you prefer? Comment below and be respectful. If you feel like I have been bashing Superman, I apologize cause it was never my intention to do so.

In my opinion, Cap is one of the only good Marvel characters and the only Avenger that isn't laughable. I definitely prefer Supes. He has his flaws, he has his weaknesses, and IMO a better rogues gallery. Its all just a matter of opinion.
FirstAvenger - 12/19/2012, 10:09 PM
The first avenger is AMAZING!
LP4 - 12/19/2012, 11:09 PM
I prefer Supes
Jollem - 12/20/2012, 12:06 AM

GuardianDevil - 12/20/2012, 2:01 AM
They are both some of my favorites, though I prefer Cap. Why do people hate when someone disagrees with them. There are a ton of DC fanboys who are prepared to crap on anything Marvel, @CaptainCanti actually in case you've never noticed most of the JLA members look incredibly silly in comparison to Avengers, Batman being the exception. Good article :) cap is definitely far cooler than Supes IMO.
CorndogBurglar - 12/20/2012, 2:57 AM
How could you say Cap is nothing without the Super Soldier Serum?

He went a pretty decent amount of time with no serum after a blood transfusion in the 90's and he proved that he didnt need it to still be Cap.

But you said that, then went on to say that all he needs is his shield. Thats not true either. You don't need a shield...or any weapon, to be a good leader, which is really Cap's most defining aspect. His leadership ability.
EdgyOutsider - 12/20/2012, 2:58 AM
@CornDogBurglar: I didn't say he needed his shield to be a good leader.

I'm personally more of a superman fan, not by much though. Superman is my 4th favourite superhero and cap Is my 6th. Good stuff man
FirstAvenger - 12/20/2012, 6:40 AM
The glasses and curl is dumb. What makes it worse is that it even fooled Batman. But besides that Superman is cool.
EdgyOutsider - 12/20/2012, 9:05 AM
ManofSuperguy: I don't know much about Superman and I really don't want to know all that much. I won't pick up a Superman comic because he has never appealed to me because he is nearly invincible. I don't like his villains with the exception of 2 or 3. It's not the superpowers that makes a superhero a superhero. It's the things they can do that the average person can not. Plus, the same argument can be made for Batman cause he doesn't have anything but gadgets. I'm not an entire hater of Superman. I do like Superman, Superman Returns and I think Man of Steel looks really good. But, the character himself and everything else in the comics is what I don't like. I just never found him appealing and never will. Superman always came off more perfect than Captain America to me. While I don't ever mean to bash on Superman cause I don't really know him. I can only judge by what I know.
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 12/20/2012, 9:09 AM
I'll take superman, fell asleep twice in captain america: the first avenger at least superman returns pissed me off soo much i stayed awake.
GuardianDevil - 12/20/2012, 12:28 PM
@Lizard1
Not trying to bash, but I disagree with your opinion of Superman. I prefer Cap too, I used to think as you do. And say that I don't like Supes because he is invincible, and I know many people who go around hating him because he seems invincible. But truth is, there are many other heroes in that same boat, my reasoning was that Thor is in the same league as far as invincibility as is Hulk and I love both of those characters. So it was hypocritical of me to say that I hate Superman because he is invincible but then say that I love characters like Thor, Shazam and Hulk. When they are just as invincible as he is, so I gave the man of steel a chance and I would call him one of my favorites now. So all I'm saying is that if people hate Superman because they think he is invincible therefore they must hate Thor, Wonder Woman etc. as well otherwise they are being hypocritical, we all have opinions and if you don't like Superman that is fine, but people like to bag on him because they think he is invincible but they like Thor, and Thor is definitely as invincible as Superman.
jessepostal - 12/20/2012, 2:33 PM
Cap is my fav, i love anything based on ww2, and he was used as propaganda during hard times in the us to raise spirits, how fuggin cool is that
HulkinOut - 12/20/2012, 2:39 PM
@fenix great point man. What people fail to realize is that superman is a hero whoes shoes you would never want to be in. simply put his life sucks, he has too much responsiblity, more than any hero.supersonic hear allows him to hear eveyone and everything, everyday he flyes around to world helping people, and at the end of the day he return to his simple life as a dorky farm boy who everyone waks over and is in love with a women whos actually in love with superman.

Supes isnt perfect hes just a nice guy who wants to do good.
Fastestmanalive - 12/20/2012, 3:53 PM
Both are in my top 3 but I still like Superman slightly better. Flash is obviously my number one, with Superman being number 2 and Cap being 3.

I like both characters for many of the same reasons, genuinley good for the sake of good, never gives up, a leader, not ashamed of their belifs no matter how "old fashioned", ect, but Superman is....well Superman.
GuardianDevil - 12/20/2012, 6:08 PM
@superhero96
Agreed, Cap is capable of some incredible feats, Superman is awesome too. But I like Cap better.
kenjim152 - 12/20/2012, 6:24 PM
Tough one, Supes is by far my fav comicbook character, I do agree on what most people are saying, almost everybody hates him cause they have never read anything from him. That story in the 80s when he fought Blaze to try to save Perry White's son's soul is great!!!!! Superman under a yellow sun (which is a GN about CLark writing a novel himself) is amazing since it is about why supes cannnot take on LUthor, Superman odisey, is another one I love because it is about supes training and thats when u know supes actually sent through some training to be who he is and what he represents. Personally I like Caps, not really into these days version of him working for shield, the 80s one is a lot better.
jessepostal - 12/20/2012, 7:47 PM
@manof, actually wasn't captain marvel the original? And the cap propaganda was different than that of sups, cap punched Hitler in the face, cap was a soldier, cap was an American,cap was human. Idk about you but to me an everyman would give me higher hopes in a time of war than a guy who can fly, and well we all know sups powers
GuardianDevil - 12/20/2012, 11:11 PM
@jessespostal

Um... No I just looked it up. Captain Marvel is one of my favorites but his first appearance was in 1940, while Superman first appeared in 1938. Supes was first.
iuhgluiblbjjkhkjhkljh - 12/20/2012, 11:58 PM
@fenix: I wasn't trying to start an argument. Anyways, both teams have SOME laughable costumes. Its all just a matter of opinion.
GuardianDevil - 12/21/2012, 12:38 AM

I actually think that Captain America may very well be the best superhero ever and here's why:

Some heroes rely on their brutish strength to help guard the universe.
Examples: Superman, Hulk, Thor.

Some heroes use their crazy power sets and sheer ability to make it in the world.
Examples: Doctor Strange, Martian Manhunter, Silver Surfer.

Some heroes that aren't gifted or born with power require TONS of gadgets, tech and weapons to get by.
Examples: Batman, Ironman, Punisher.

Captain America requires none of that, he doesent need brute strength like Thor and Superman. He doesent need vast powers and abilities like Strange and Martian Manhunter, he doesent require BOATLOADS of weapons like Batman and Ironman. He just has ONE weapon and pure fighting skill and he is definitely in the same league as the heroes I mentioned.
jessepostal - 12/21/2012, 5:23 AM
@fenix, original war propaganda character? Not just who was created first
fortycals - 12/21/2012, 5:27 AM
Might lose my geek card, but i am not a fan of either. Not that I hate them or anything, just not a fan. Never been a fan of the whole boy scout persona. These two are probably the best representation of that type, but it has never been my thing. Not saying I wont enjoy their movies, but i could never invest in the comics enough to add either to my pull list.
GuardianDevil - 12/21/2012, 8:43 AM
@jessepostal
Oh, really Captain Marvel was the original war propaganda. Okay I didn't know that.
DrDoom - 12/21/2012, 9:59 AM
I way prefer The First Avenger to the Man of Steel, but I like them both.

I know, heresy.
jessepostal - 12/21/2012, 11:51 AM
@fenix, idk, I was asking haha. I remember hearing that he was, and captain marvel was bigger than sups back than but dk, I'll see what I can find
kenjim152 - 12/21/2012, 1:51 PM
Hitler himself said on a speech that Superman was a jew, that tells u which one was considered war propaganda black then and which one was even more relevant, do I think supes got caps there right?
sikwon - 12/21/2012, 3:30 PM
The thing with super man is that he is just so hard to beat. Im sure there has bern character development over the years but for me, as a kid, everytime i picked up a superman comic tgere was no drama at all. Im 37. Superman the movie was AMAZING TO ME. But the comixs never held me. Im not a huge Avengers fan for some of the same reasons... Thor is so hard to beat, etc etc. I like cap for the same reasons i like spider man and wolverine and batman. They arent gids. They go into nearly every battle outgunned. Im a big X fan and setiously for being the best there is at what he does Wolverine gets his ass whipped so often its crazy. Its over coming, drama, thats what drives characters. With super man that was lacking fore in the years that my live for comics was formulated. Plus as badass as he is the Phoenix or Professor X could have just shut his brain off.
johnblake - 12/22/2012, 6:39 PM
Goku is greater than both.
GuardianDevil - 12/22/2012, 7:00 PM
@johnblake
No way man, Goku is dumb and he's just a Japanese Superman ripoff. I'll take Supes, Cap or even retards like Hawkman over Goku any day. :)
Bam - 12/24/2012, 2:06 PM
I agree, I've always been hesitant about liking Supes and recent incarnations of Captain America got me completely devoted to the character.

I always felt the two of them presented the perfect counter points to Marvel and DC: One is an all powerful god like alien, who enforces the entire world and complicates his life by trying to be human via his relationships. That's how a large majority of DC characters are just larger than life figures.

Captain America now is the everyman, every guy out there with a dream and a good sense of morals should look up to Cap whether they're weak or strong. Cap's just a guy trying to do the right thing, not out of duty bestowed upon him by his parents, but simply because it's the right thing to do. For such a major character he has a relatively weak powerset. And he always seemed much more plausible. His enhancements were from genetic serums, his armor and supplies were top class military grade and his shield was simply an exercise in physics.

Marvel's characters are more grounded and more human in my opinion.

I'm not bashing either one they both work for all walks of life whatever you're into at the moment.

I suppose a good analogy would be that DC are the Greek Gods of mythology, while Marvel are the Greek Heroes.

Both produce wonderful and interesting stories, it's you're preference what you wanna read at any given time.
