It appears that the stellar run from Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino on DC Comics' Green Arrow will be coming to a close this October. Who's replacing them? A pair of writers from The CW's Arrow.

If you've been enjoying the excellent run on DC Comics' Green Arrow from writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino then I have bad news for you. Lemire and Sorrentino's last Green Arrow issue will be October's Green Arrow #35. The duo will have one more Green Arrow special, a one-shot titled, Futures End: Green Arrow #1, which will be released in September, but that their swan song. Replacing Lemire and Sorrentino will be Andrew Kreisberg and Ben Sokolowski of The CW Arrow. So is the Green Arrow comic book going to essentially turn into an extension of The CW television show (even though there's already a digital tie-in for the show)? Said Sokolowski, "This is more about cross-pollination. How can we incorporate what is working so well for Arrow into the New 52 DCU, while at the same time, keeping what makes the original 2-D Oliver Queen so special? To that end, comic Oliver and TV Oliver have distinct voices and attitudes. We’ll do our best to keep them unique. We really want to bring the old-school Oliver Queen voice back to the character. In other words, the opinionated, liberal Robin Hood-esque hero that has fallen through the cracks a bit, both in the comics and TV models."

Kreisberg added, "I think the version Ben and I are going for now is an amalgamation of the TV version and his comic book persona. As our TV partner, Greg Berlanti, puts it, at his core, Oliver is an optimist. He believes in people. On the TV show, that optimism is buried under years of torture and suffering, but it’s still there. In the comics, he’s been a bit more fun, a bit faster with a quip, so we are trying to add some of that zest for life."

As of now, the comic book version of Green Arrow is vastly different from the one on television played by Stephen Amell. But I enjoy them both and have equally supported the show from day one, and followed the comic book series since Lemire and Sorrentino took over with Green Arrow #17. That said, I'm not sure I want the two mediums to become more closely aligned. But based on the comments from Sokolowski, it appears that he and Kreisberg are looking to bring more of a Neal Adams Green Arrow vibe to the series, something that would be a tonal departure from both the show and current comic book incarnation. The most important thing to keep in mind is DC's big September event, which will look at the DC Universe 5 years into the future. The question is whether, the DC Universe stays 5 years into the future following September or we are moving back to current-day and moving towards that future glimpsed in Futures End.

I have faith this will work out for the better I honestly miss Ollie being that liberal Robin Hood-esque character that's what made me like him so many years ago especially the version on JLU but only time will tell if this is good or not

Arrow is amazing, so this news doesn't bother me.

Wow. Good idea. We've already seen this to a degree with the addition of Diggle to the comic, as well as Ollie being younger and without facial hair. lol

Don't people whine when Marvel does shit like this to their comics?

Could be great, could be the worst thing ever, only time will tell...

I'm going to remeber this every time some asshole on a message board tries to tell me not to complain about an adaption. The worst case scenario has finally been realized. A shitty adaption has now redefined an entire comic book franchise down to its actual comic. One can only imagine what havoc the [frick]ing CW will wreak on the Flash Franchise.

As long as they don't try and turn it into Arrow itself by making Dinah no longer Black Canary and bringing in annoying, horrible characters like Thea, etc. or making Vertigo a drug dealer I think people should be happy.

[frick] everything. Lemire and Sorrentino's run has been some of the most entertaining and well thought out things DC's put out since the N52 began, and now thats being traded for Kreisberg's interpretation of O'Neil's take on Ollie? Lame.

The absolute last thing I would want is for the comic book Green Arrow to become more like the shitty television Arrow/Hood/Vigilante/Whatever. DC doesn't need more brooding, nor more heroes that murder people.

WHAT? Why?!?

Why would they replace Jeff Lemire, a fantastic, critically-acclaimed comic writer who's put out one of the best Green Arrow runs in YEARS, with two guys who've never written a comic before? For that matter, why take these two guys (who have been doing GREAT work on Arrow) and throw them into a medium they have no experience in? Arrow still needs writers, dammit! They're already splitting a writing pool with The Flash!

This is such a bad idea all around that it boggles the mind to even consider it! I mean, I get that this is an ass-backwards attempt at cross-media synergy, but this is the most wrong-headed way to do it I could possibly imagine! What in the holy name of f%$# is wrong with DC Comics?!?

@TheFox: Read Lemire's blog; he's leaving on his own accord. They're probably gonna announce what new project he'll be working on at SDCC.

Although Lemire hasn't gotten Green Arrow/Oliver Queen right he still writes a good title and one I enjoy despite the changes(which I don't like), now hearing that people from Arrow will be writting Green Arrow I can't help but just say "[frick] it". Green Arrow isn't Batman his an asshole with a witty attitude and takes no ones shit. Seeing as the people from Arrow manged to [frick] over Mia Derden(Thia in their universe) Oliver's parents deaths, Roy Harper, Black Canary, Count Vertigo etc ... I just regret having bought that 12 issue subscription just two months ago.

Actually, Kreisberg wrote a few issues of Batman Confidential as well as Green Arrow/Black Canary.

Still, it's a shame that Lemire is leaving the book. I've really been enjoying his run so far.

No problem with this whatsoever because I love Arrow, although I will say Lemire's run in the comics has been excellent. While I love Arrow Ollie and Comic Ollie both, I will admit I kind of wish Oliver was more of the quippy optimist on the show that he was in the comics.

The Ollie in the show isn't even Green Arrow. Just a Batman copycat.

I'm disappointed. Green Arrow is one of my favourite comic book heroes. I really dislike the show Arrow because the show butchers and ruins the character to it's core.

So no, i don't want Green Arrow to be more like "Arrow".

Arrow is borderline retarded. Give it another year and it will plummet in viewership. Between Agents of Shield wonder twins and Arrow becoming a master assassin in 5 years on an island, it's not surprising people neck deep in denial think terrible acting is better than no acting, when it comes to Comics on TV.

Sweet. Arrow gets the character. They're just bound by some unfortunate stuff there.

Can't wait for new 52 to return the character a bit closer to classic older Ollie.
