BOX OFFICE: HANSEL & GRETEL Projected For $14M Weekend

The fairytale witch-hunting siblings are projected for a lower opening weekend than what Paramount initially estimated. However, international numbers should keep Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola's picture out of the red.

As stated above, Hansel & Gretel was number one Friday with $6 million and is on pace for a $14M weekend. Paramount expected the $50M motion picture to open in the high-teens to low 20's which is a bit higher than the latest projection. The film was never projected as a big U.S. draw and is expected to do the lion's share of its business overseas as evidenced by the $8.6M opening in Russia. It should also be noted that there was a considerable snow storm that hit the East Coast last night which certainly dissuaded more than a few from venturing out to the theater.

For comparable opening weekend figures (domestic), Dredd earned $6.3M, The Man With The Iron Fist earned $7.9M, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter took $16.3M last June and Jack Reacher earned $15.2M.

Movie will not flop, will do well internationally and will probably collect 30-40 million domestic on a $50M budget.

Watched it last night... Worst movie I ever seen in a long time! If Gemma Arterton wasn't in this I wanted to punch my self multiple times to advert the pain somewhere else.
Funny how all the production value went into the last 5 min of the movie right before the ending credits and I screamed out why the hell couldn't the rest of the movie looked like this!?

THERE WAS A VARIETY OF WITCHES, FIGHT SCENES WERE COOL, WEAPONS WERE COOL...I'D WATCH A SECOND ONE..JUST AMPING IT UP A LITTLE MORE WOULD BE GOOD. MORE VARIETIES OF WITCHES CREATURES WEAPONS AND FIGHT AN ACTION SEQUENCES...

It was a fun movie, just got back from it. Took a friend and she really enjoyed it. I really liked the style of the world that was created. Fun movie really violent in parts *heads explode /blood and guts fly everywhere* and there was even a boobie scene ;) It was better than expected. I'd check it out if you liked Dredd.

I laughed when it was shown that Hansel had diabetes from eating to much candy from the candy house.
