Hugh Jackman Not Ready To Give Up Wolverine

Hugh Jackman is currently filming Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" marking his seventh on screen portrayal of the iconic Marvel Comics berserker. No one would fault Jackman if he said that was his last time out as Wolverine but the actor says he's not ready to hang up the claws.

Starting the interview off with HitFix, actor Hugh Jackman admits that they didn't really hit the mark with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Said the Australian actor, "We didn't worry about ratings [with "The Wolverine"], we just worried about trying to nail that character that is endemic in the comic book. I felt [in previous films] that we didn't have enough time because there were too many other mutants or other storylines or we just missed the mark. I feel in this one we kind of got it."

Hugh goes on to state that his love for the Marvel Comics character is greater than ever before and that despite presently filming his seventh outing as Wolverine, he's not thinking about stopping. "I'm not ready to give him up just yet," said Hugh. He continued, "Let me tell you, I love [the role] and probably like [the character] more than ever." With a film adaptation of "X-Force" in the works, could Jackman also be part of that X-Men spinoff's future? Maybe Fox is listening to fans' complaints about Wolverine being the center and apparent leader of the X-Men team so they're giving Wolvie his own squad, a team that he's lead in the more recent run of the comic book title.

Well they keep putting Wolverine in the forefront why would he say he didn't like the character if he keeps getting work portraying him.
AmazingFantasy - 7/17/2013, 3:51 AM
Wouldnt want him to
StrangerX - 7/17/2013, 3:58 AM
after DOFP i want to see The new mutants than Cable and the X Force w/out Wolverine or just a cameo.
BlueDemon - 7/17/2013, 4:13 AM
I'm glad he loves the character so much. He should play Wolverine for as long as he can. Maybe Old Man Logan when he's older. My only complaint is that he needs the costume. PUT THE [frick]ING COSTUME ON!
MarvelDCfanboy - 7/17/2013, 4:19 AM
TheOther - 7/17/2013, 4:22 AM
Well Wolverine rocketed him to stardom.
@MarvelDCfanboy: LOL.
MightyZeus - 7/17/2013, 4:25 AM
Hugh Jackman has always been perfect as 'Wolverine'. Glad he's not giving up the role.

Who cares about the yellow spandex. It would look un intentionally funny if it was on film.
sameoldthing - 7/17/2013, 4:29 AM
In 10 years he should portray OLD MAN LOGAN.
Get the older Jeremy Renner as blind Hawkeye too.

Driving all over the country in that Spidey-Mobile,being chased by T-Rex Venom & cannibal Hulks!
Awesome visuals & brutal violence..Oh Yea!

He's going to play Wolverine until he's 65. The dude hasn't aged all that much in 13 years. Plus he remains one of the best casting choices for a comic book character ever. Hugh Jackman is Wolverine.
thewonderer - 7/17/2013, 4:35 AM
lmao at people claiming he's doing it for the fame and attention.

Look at RDJ, a man demanding upwards of 75 million to STAR in films he's shouldn't be starring in either.

If RDJ really loved the character, he wouldn't be in negotiations for even more money to play the character in A2 and A3.

Hugh is the most passionate actor to ever play a superhero. And that goes a long way.
MightyZeus - 7/17/2013, 4:35 AM
13 year olds keep complaining that they want an R rated 'Wolverine'. Whats wrong with PG 13 ?
thewonderer - 7/17/2013, 4:36 AM
Oh shut up Ramon, he is feral.

THE ONLY thing I'll give you is being a foot taller. The rest is you failing to come up with anything else.
vondoom29 - 7/17/2013, 4:36 AM
^^sameoldthing^^ you right. you real right. old man logan would be super dope. But on another note, wasnt there an article/interview like two or three days ago on this site where he said he wasnt ready to give it up? something about how theres more story arcs he wanted to do.
arsonjack - 7/17/2013, 4:39 AM
I love Hugh Jackman's portrayal of wolverine.
TelaVizion - 7/17/2013, 4:46 AM
he was feral in X3 (forest scene) and in Origins (even tho Tooth handed it to him at the end of first fight)
TelaVizion - 7/17/2013, 4:47 AM
the feral and berserker rage are two separate levels for Wolverine.
TheAbaryMan369 - 7/17/2013, 5:01 AM
"I felt [in previous films] that we didn't have enough time because there were too many other mutants or other storylines"

I honestly have no idea what to say about that...
CherryBomb - 7/17/2013, 5:03 AM

Bad bad news. :(

When the news first broke about his solo movies, I thought, Yay, more focus on other characters and Wolvie can do whatever he wants.

BUT, to hear he's the centre of attention in yet another X-Men film, DOFP, is making things even worse. And it's no surprise it'll be: Wolverine Movies, Wolverine and the X-Men and now Wolverine and X-Force.
BANEofExistence - 7/17/2013, 5:09 AM
He will most likely be in X-Force and I would like to se him cameo in a solo Magneto films (Maybe wolverine frees a young Eric from a concentration camp?) And if DOFP reboots some x-men films (X-Men the last stand) then we may get a proper x3 or even an "x4"

Id like to see (after DOFP) an "X4" with Apocolypse as the villain and Magneto, Mystique, Blob (Durand), Pyro, Toad, Quicksilver being forced to work alongside the X-Men!

GIVE US X-MEN ORIGINS CYCLOPS WITH MARSDEN!
TheWolverine08 - 7/17/2013, 5:11 AM
Yes! Jackman is Wolverine! I'm happy to see him continue you to play my favorite character.
TheWolverine08 - 7/17/2013, 5:14 AM
@ELgUaSoN You're damn right!!
revloveR - 7/17/2013, 5:36 AM
i never really liked him as wolverine, kinda hoping that josh brolin got to be logan but, i admire jackman's commitment to the character.
gambgel - 7/17/2013, 6:22 AM
if the studio gives him another solo movie, I just hope he doesnt get the lead role in the team movies.

He can have a good role in all the team movies, but not the biggest one.
xXkryptoniteXx - 7/17/2013, 6:22 AM
Hugh jackman is awesome and I hope he doesn't give it up yet. I remember seeing him in a tribute magazine and my friends said he doesn't fit the part as wolverine but look at him now, a committed actor who appreciate the character. What other actors will do that? They would have quit a long time ago after playing so many parts.
fettastic - 7/17/2013, 6:39 AM
I think it's hard to adapt Wolvie because he's a very dark character. He can literally kill his way out of just about any situation, but trying to come up with excuses that keeps him from doing that is tough. But it's hard to sympathize with someone who just killed 25 people because they were in his way.

However, I personally like all the X-films, even Origins to an extent. Hugh certainly plays the role as best he can and frankly he has changed that character for all of us.

Wolverine used to be an old grump-ass who was very short and hairy and bordered on being psychotic. He didn't have a very strong moral code and was more like a walking loaded gun.

I think that version of Wolverine (remember that like Punisher, Wolverine started out as a villain) is mostly gone. Now Wolverine is a tall, good-looking, emo Ronin.

I personally am completely fine with that.
SaxoWolf - 7/17/2013, 6:51 AM
Respect to Hugh for his dedication to the character.

pointman - 7/17/2013, 6:53 AM
Please................in the name of everything that is good and just in this world Hugh.........please just let it go. I know it is your only cash cow. I know your delusional in thinking you immerse yourself in this character ala dinero, but you have had fourteen years to get this right and the showtunes just keep shining through. The argument for the costume onscreen looking silly is getting old. I want to see a costume. This isn't wolverine, this is wolverines avatar. A slight resemblance to the character I grew up reading. Please recast, reboot and send it back to marvel.
KeefNCookies - 7/17/2013, 6:53 AM
I love that he cares and is committed... but clearly he is misguided if he believes that FOX has, is and will portray this character correctly. If I may, Grif, "shit movies"
odie00 - 7/17/2013, 7:13 AM
He's a decent Wolverine. Honestly I can't think of a person right now who could do a better job. And honestly if he was bad and a lot of people didn't like his Wolverine they would have got rid of him a LONG time ago. For his weight, yeah people Hugh is a little tall but where the hell are you going to find a 5'3 actor lol? Guess they could have used camera magic and make him look shorter but whatever. The only thing I want to see more from Hughs Wolverine is to be more ferocious at times and not make it look cheesy.
TMW1987ProudProWrestlingFan - 7/17/2013, 7:31 AM
IDIOTS still claiming the proper Wolverine Costume from the Comics / 90's Cartoon STILL HAVE NO IMAGINATION!

And it's always the same people complaining! We get it now, you don't think it will work, change the damn record!

And as I've said before, just look at BAT IN THE SUN & the Wolverine Costumes they do on a low budget..... BETTER THAN FOX!
odie00 - 7/17/2013, 7:40 AM
Oh and Mr. Jackman, superhero comics have been out for 75 years haha not around 50. And there have been different kind of comics before Superman.
GodzillaKart - 7/17/2013, 8:03 AM
Jackman has been great in the role, but Wolverine doesn't really age, Jackman does.

It is time for Jackman to step aside.

I would love for them to have the balls to cast a short guy next time around.
Jackraow21 - 7/17/2013, 8:05 AM
I don't mind Jackman continuing to play Wolverine, but what I do mind is everything in the X-men film universe revolving around the character! Enough is enough. They should listen to Millar and put the focus on Wolverine in his solo films, have him as a player but not the main focus in the X-men films, and keep him out of the spinoff franchises like X-Force and Deadpool pretty much entirely (maybe he can have a cameo or something, but that's about it). The issue to me isn't Jackman, it's Wolverine. Wolverine fatigue...
CharlesLord - 7/17/2013, 8:16 AM
Fox wouldnt be listening to fans complaints and give wolvie his own team cuz they did that in 5 movies already. If they do XForce they need to go the Cable route. Then again that would be kinda difficult to explain and i dont even wanna think about howd they do it
HeadPool420 - 7/17/2013, 8:24 AM
This guys been Wolverine in so many movies and still hasn't gotten it right! Let someone else try. Someone short and built not someone tall with a big upper body and chicken legs! Plus let's get a movie where Wolverine doesn't cry!!!!! He's such a baby in the movies! And he always gets his ass kicked.
JettJagguarrr - 7/17/2013, 8:48 AM
Unlike some actors....He is dedicated to his character.
Gnyah123 - 7/17/2013, 9:02 AM
HUGH JACKMAN FOR GOKU!!!
make it happen hollywood!
fettastic - 7/17/2013, 9:09 AM
Hugh is pretty much cemented as the character at this point. If he were to be replaced the audience would be like "Wait....what the.....WHERE IN THE [frick] IS HUGH JACKMAN!? Who's THIS [frick]ing guy? That's not Wolverine! That's some short, hairy OLD guy!

Trust me, Fox will keep Hugh in that role as long as he is willing to do it.
soup3161 - 7/17/2013, 9:10 AM
I am totally prepared for the backlash I will inevitably receive from this comment, but does anyone else think that Hugh Jackman is kind of... bad at playing Wolverine? Yeah, he put on a lot of muscle and everything, but does he actually look like or act like the character? He cries way too much, I'm pretty sure Wolverine never cries. He never really seemed to have a great understanding of Wolverine in my opinion.

I am totally game with having another actor step into the role.
revloveR - 7/17/2013, 9:20 AM
@soup, what backlash? pretty obvious from some of the comments that people are divided.

as i said, i wish brolin would've been wolvie but that ship sailed soon as that jackman cameo in FC happened. now they're making the sequel to first class, X-Men:clusterf*ck.
