Mark Strong Says He Would Be Surprised If There Was A GREEN LANTERN Sequel

With Green Lantern not doing so well critically or at the box office, and with WB wanting to do a Justice League movie, a lot of people are questioning whether or not the film will get a sequel or rebooted. Actor Mark Strong says he would be shocked if the film got green lit for a sequel.

Mark Strong has said recently that he is sad that Green Lantern didn't do better than it did at the box office, because he really liked the movie. He told MTV, "I loved making 'Green Lantern' and I loved playing Sinestro." The odds of a sequel for the movie have been in doubt, however there was some life in the idea when WB exec Jeff Robinov said that he thought with the right bit of re-working a sequel could be done. Strong isn't as hopeful saying, "I would be surprised if they made a second one because I’ve heard nothing about it in quite a while now." He also said that he was excited to tackle the second movie, and Sinestro being over taken by the yellow power.

As to why Green Lantern failed, Strong wonders if it might have has something to do with the mid-credits scene. "A lot of people seemed to be confused by him putting on the ring at the end of the movie. They felt that it came out of nowhere," he explained. What that moment was suppose to do, according to Strong, is just indicated where the second movie would have went. He also said that where the trilogy was heading would have been, "very exciting because the putting on of the ring and the whole suit turning yellow would have been great fun."

Like stated above WB exec Jeff Robinov said after the movie came out and performed poorly that there is still hope for a sequel. However, with one of the best parts of the first movie not hearing anything about a sequel, it doesn't look too good. Green Lantern will be a part of WB's Justice League movie, which is said to be on hiatus until WB sees how Man Of Steel will be received. So based on that logic, it seems that we will have to wait until at least June before we are likely to hear anything. For the latest on Green Lantern, make sure to check back here at CBM.

No shit?
JatevinM - 2/22/2013, 11:17 AM
I say take a different writer who understands the character and actually cares about him and a director who cares about the characaters and give Green Lantern another go with Sinestro as the main villain.
JatevinM - 2/22/2013, 11:22 AM
James Cameron is not that great and I'm not sure if he even cares about Green Lantern. JJ Abrams definitely has his hands full as it is.

Strong was boss. Still was wack him and the other corp members were hardly in the movie... wished it was about the GLC than just Hal on Earth. Kilowag and the rest deserved a lot more screen time and more space time for sure. If they ever make another GL movie or a DC movie with Sinestro, I hope they keep M.Strong around.
Spideyguy94 - 2/22/2013, 11:28 AM
Strong was fantastic. I'd go as far to say as one of the best castings in CBM history. Pity the same can't be said about the rest of the movie, only things that where good was strong rush and mcd.

Ryan Reynolds shouldn't be recast because he was perfectly fine as Hal Jordan given a better script he would be better.
MrNiklander - 2/22/2013, 11:32 AM
I say give the job at Duncan Jones I think it would be awesome.
masterhater - 2/22/2013, 11:37 AM
I actually liked the movie.
However, Ryan Reynolds wasnt the right choice for Hal and I think thats why the movie flopped. We need a more serious actor and people are kinda tired or Reynolds.

I really hope to see a sequel!
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 2/22/2013, 11:42 AM
[frick] hal jordan and a GL reboot, give us a sinestro movie with sexy mark strong instead.
Stumblin - 2/22/2013, 11:43 AM
I think everyone would be surprised if there was a sequel.
95 - 2/22/2013, 11:48 AM
Me too, Mark.

Mark Strong did an excellent job as Sinestro. Only thing that effed up the entire movie was casting Ryan Reynolds as Hal with his puppy dog looking face and that god damn humungus forehead. Damn mask he wore was a tragedy.
NoAssemblyReqd - 2/22/2013, 11:49 AM
I was more intrigued by Strong's character in JOHN CARTER. His walk-and-talk conversation with Carter is one of the film's highlights.

But chances of a sequel to that film are probably worse than GREEN LANTERN's.
marvel72 - 2/22/2013, 11:49 AM
mark strong was the only performance i enjoyed it that train wreck of a movie.

reboot franchise keep mark strong hire jj abrams.
mrHJK - 2/22/2013, 11:52 AM
The movie didn't do well because of the mid-credit scene? Um, people would have had to buy tickets to see that..
polarkyle - 2/22/2013, 11:56 AM
Don't blame reynolds for how how bad that movie was. Ryan is a great actor (have u seen buried). I know that with the right script and director we will be the perfect hal jordan.
gaikinger - 2/22/2013, 11:58 AM
He was great as Sinestro and hope he shows up as baddy in Legion of Doom.
Alex1397 - 2/22/2013, 11:59 AM
I'd say kill off Hal Jordan and replace him with Alan Scott.

@ Levitikuz I would not want Jaime Foxx now that he is in the next Soiderman movie. I was not a fan of seeing Ryan in GL after seeing him in X-Men. I want to keep people to either Marvel or DC not both. Yes he could pull off a good version but now it's too late.

I will say some one different for John Stewart. I would go with Cuba Gooding Jr. I think he is a good actor & could pull off an interesting version of John. Plus this could be his big break back into movies.

Plus like I said in the other GL article I think Neil Blomkamp could make a great GL movie. He had some great ideas for Halo and from what was leaked about the creations for the movie were spot on. So I think he could make the GL universe interesting.
DC4everLantern - 2/22/2013, 12:10 PM
Do a Sequel for Strong. That would be totaly worth it. See him as Sinestro will make this epic enough.
marantaz - 2/22/2013, 12:11 PM
I'd say if the next Supes film flips, we'll all be amazed if any DC characters get on film again anytime soon. WB will be too afraid to do anything but give Batman another go, and that's a bad thing.
StrangerX - 2/22/2013, 12:15 PM
Well they made a sequel to Ghost Rider Why not

I would love a sequel to be with Star Sapphire or just do a team up with Flash
JoeMomma29 - 2/22/2013, 12:19 PM
Gusto stop posting pictures of yourself!
DanteSparda - 2/22/2013, 12:19 PM
So sad that all the production of GL was made with several sequels in mind, if it hadn't been such a financial failure the JLA movie would be already announced oficialy for 2015.
LOL - 2/22/2013, 12:22 PM
Granted the GL movie was a bomb for most people, at least we got another live action movie superhero from the major DC-verse that didn't have a fricking S or Bat symbol on his chest. I'll be the first to admit that while some of the Marvel live action movies were ranging from kinda bad to semi-ok when not done "in-house" by Marvel itself (ie. Punisher WZ, Ghost Rider, FF, and so forth)... they at least HAVE been trying harder to get more of their characters ON screen than not. Making those movies is a gamble because everyone has different interpretations of the characters from EVERYBODY (fans, writers, directors, producers, etc), so it is hit or miss all of the time. The bottom line is that they keep doing it in the hopes that some of the characters will hit it big and become a franchise. Yes, I know DC has almost cornered the animated direct to DVD movies line and Marvel doesn't have much in that area, but it's almost always Batman and Superman heading that lineup and rarely anyone else.
Hero020200 - 2/22/2013, 12:22 PM
Mark Strong should definitely return as Sinesteo in a possible sexual or reboot
Shamo - 2/22/2013, 12:23 PM
one of the best casting decisions to date. shame the director, screenwriters, Reynolds and that one chick [frick]ed up what could of been something huge for Strong.
Shamo - 2/22/2013, 12:24 PM
@Hero, a possible... "sexual"?
shangho - 2/22/2013, 12:25 PM
That film had SO much potential, and Mark Strong was great as Sinestro, but Hector Hammknd was useless and for some reason movie writers seem to like the idea of taking a cool villain and turning them into fart clouds ie:Galactus, parallax.i don't even think Ryan Reynolds was that bad as Jordan, its just that the script really sucked.
shangho - 2/22/2013, 12:27 PM
@Hero020200 possible sexual????Ha Ha Ha!!!!Damned spellcheck
shangho - 2/22/2013, 12:29 PM
There really were some good aspects of that movie though.I think it gets a really bad wrap sometimes.I mean,it was still better than the garbage that Shumacker turned the Batman movies into
shangho - 2/22/2013, 12:30 PM
And I agree about Brad Cooper! He would've been GREAT!I also think he's make a good Flash.WB just needs to hire writers that get the source material and treat it with due respect
Nomis1800 - 2/22/2013, 12:38 PM
He was perfect casted, shame that everything else besides the costume design was freaking horrible about this film.
CrowPirate1 - 2/22/2013, 12:39 PM
I just don't like the fact that DC is STILL unaware of its fan base. With statements like "Green Lantern will be a part of WB's Justice League movie, which is said to be on hiatus until WB sees how Man Of Steel will be received."

They have got some of the most recognized comic heroes in the world. Some had their own TV and cartoons shows over the years. People have been waiting their whole lives to see these in live action cool movies.

The success of the Marvel universe plan has got to give DC the green light. Even take that way, look at the success of the Batman movies just recently made. I mean.. hello? Take that money and put it back into the movie section.

There HAS to be someone over there with far reaching plans. I want to see both sides of my comic collection be represented in movies... and not just Superman and Batmans.

argh.....
Chloefornication - 2/22/2013, 12:39 PM
Horrible film, great actor. He was the right choice for the role.
Tevii - 2/22/2013, 12:43 PM
A little teeking and they can still have a very successful sequel. But I understand the reluctance.

But i would like to see all the FINAL financials. The movie itself, made a profit. A very small one.

So how well did merchandising go? Did that at least cover the cost of Marketing?

If so, now that there is name recognition and the animated series created new fans, maybe a sequel isnt as bad a risk as they think.
aztecRaingod - 2/22/2013, 12:55 PM
What a surprise that he would be surprised.
aztecRaingod - 2/22/2013, 12:56 PM
Ryan Gosling? Are you TRYING to sink the reboot before its even filmed??
lntrn8 - 2/22/2013, 1:00 PM
Green Lantern movie is to DC as Ghost Rider movie is to Marvel
