Colton Haynes On The Possibility Of Him Becoming The Hood's Side Kick In ARROW

With Roy Harper being introduced on Arrow this past week, fans have been wondering if this is the first step in giving The Hood and out in the field side kick. Actor Colton Hayes addressed the question and didn't rule it out.

When you think of Green Arrow, you also think of his side kick Speedy. The show Arrow has used the term, but it was in the first episode, and Oliver used it on his sister Thea. When it was announced that Colton Haynes would be joining the Arrow universe as Roy Harper, Speedy's real name in the comics, people started to wonder if producers would follow the comics and make Harper Ollie's side kick. "They’re setting things up for a possibility of that," Haynes told MTV. "But like most TV shows it could just be a fake out." You will however, get to see Roy interact with The Hood. Which Haynes said could foreshadow a possibility of them working together in the future.

Going back to the moniker of Speedy, Haynes says that he will be called that this season, but not from Oliver. "It’s interesting because Oliver calls her (Thea) 'Speedy' and she calls me 'Speedy.' So it’s this interesting thing," he explained. He also eluded to the fact that it might just tease fans as to who will really wind up being Olivier's side kick him, or Thea.

Haynes is up for becoming a series regular if the show calls for it. Arrow has been renewed for a second season with the only other news that has come out is that Emily Bett Rickards has been promoted to a series regular. The show airs Wednesday night's at 8:00 P.M. on the CW.

Ahhhh hope he don't get a sidekick, an if so not for long!

:p

Still they'll make it work, whatever they do.

One of the best TV shows on, thanks for making the last 3 seasons of Smallville a distant memory, which it should be.

OH Yeah Gusto she is legal now!
JoeMomma29 - 2/22/2013, 1:01 PM
By the way the actress who plays Oliver's sister sucks!! She is the only Debbie Downer to the show!!!

StrangerX - 2/22/2013, 1:08 PM
Well he wasn't too bad last ep
BarackObama - 2/22/2013, 1:09 PM
don't have him be "Speedy" even if Thea calls him that. Just use his modern name of Arsenal
DrRockit13 - 2/22/2013, 1:14 PM
Hope he becomes his sidekick Oliver doesn't give him a name, Thea keeps calling him speedy, the news papers calls him red arrow, and he gets addicted to vertigo later in the show and Oliver drops him, he then leaves and come back with vengeance and calls himself arsenal because he uses more than jus the bow and arrow.

I would also like to see a version of Red Hood in this too. they have already changed some characters they could bring in Red Hood in that he is following another villian to starling city and roy works with him.
DrRockit13 - 2/22/2013, 1:16 PM
Just a thought, obviously there would be more to it, It could lead to a spin off of Red Hood and the Outlaws maybe.
Xeriath - 2/22/2013, 1:27 PM
I'm sick of Oliver being referred to as "The Hood" by everyone. It sounds so stupid IMO. I hope down the road he starts being called Green Arrow. I won't care if they shorten it and just call him Arrow. Both of the above are way better than "The Hood" for some reason hearing it said all the time reminds me of that horrid show "The Cape" lol
PsyGuy - 2/22/2013, 1:46 PM
Did anyone else notice how feminine his jeans are???
Tevii - 2/22/2013, 2:17 PM
The idea sounds like it has potential... if they go the route of the original DCU.
That Arsenal was starting to get really great. The New 52 version kinda sucks

MercSoul - 2/22/2013, 2:23 PM
i think that he must join oliver's team but in a season 2 or 3, but he can be thea boyfriend for a while, and i dont know, something happens to thea and roy team-up with oliver, and after that he is in the team
GetsugaTensho22 - 2/22/2013, 2:41 PM
I thought he was wasted, imo. He didn't really do anything except tell a whiney sad story and meet up Thea at the end.
Also, how lame was it as to how easy it was for Thea to track him down?
GetsugaTensho22 - 2/22/2013, 2:43 PM
Don't get me wrong though, He seems pretty damn athletic and believable as Ollie's future partner and he seems like a good enough actor. We'll see.
yingyangpalms - 2/22/2013, 3:30 PM
Are they wanting a spinoff? Why not just go with Diggs. Why keep Diggs on the sideline?

Red Arrow or whatever he's called is just a Robin knockoff and Robin has always sucked.
Arrow would be more cool with an ally like Diggs not a Boy Wonder sidekick.
darkjoker1 - 2/22/2013, 3:48 PM
i hope he becomes Arsenal and thea becomes speedy also has any nocted he looks just like the young justice version of red arrow the (clone version) expect for the ginger hair lol....
MercSoul - 2/22/2013, 4:30 PM
@yingyangpalms ....what the hell are you talking about, robin dont suck, the only robin that sucks is the robin of the movie universe
Tony93 - 2/22/2013, 4:43 PM
your right,
he does look just like speedy in Young Justice..
I hope he does become Red Arrow..
not too soon though, maybe next season if the show plays it right
Tony93 - 2/22/2013, 4:44 PM
I do not want thea as speedy.. please no..
TheRaven20 - 2/22/2013, 4:50 PM
@AndyRooIII Yeah the bothers the heck out of me too. I really don't understand why they don't just refer to him as the arrow guy or green arrow. Is it really that hard???
Bigred20 - 2/22/2013, 4:52 PM
they casted colton for his looks
not his acting
ComicFan523 - 2/22/2013, 5:36 PM
Like a lot of people have said, I'm getting really sick of him being called the Hood, it's the only thing that bothers me about this show. By the end of this season they better start calling him the Green Arrow, anything else just sounds stupid.
I don't care one way or the other if he gets a sidekick, just so long as it's written well.
sameoldthing - 2/22/2013, 6:33 PM
Smallville called Clark The Blur & now this show calls Oliver The Hood..very annoying.
Don't call him "Arrow" either, that's an object not a code name.

Call him GREEN ARROW please.
sameoldthing - 2/22/2013, 6:34 PM
Slade needs to be called DEATHSTROKE as well.
Sooner rather than later.
TheGodOfMischief - 2/22/2013, 6:44 PM
This show IS getting better, there is a lot of story building up that could turn into some really good ISH!
I am just thankful for a GA show that is taken seriously... liberties taken are a given with these sort of things. Slade and Roy coming in is just great, and i like the actors. I enjoyed Colton on Teen Wolf and who does not love The great Crixus!
superotherside - 2/22/2013, 8:36 PM
Actually I like him in last episode. That fence jump he did was cool too. Hope to see him in future episodes. Not sure about the side kick though. Wouldn't mind him helping him out sometimes but too much of a good thing might make it strange. IDK it's really just how they do it.
masterhater - 2/22/2013, 10:16 PM
That douche has an awesome purse in that pic!
mgeoff88 - 2/22/2013, 11:09 PM
I think it is too soon for Oliver to have a sidekick. He's still learning the ropes of being a crime fighter himself.

In the third season I think it should happen.
alamborn19 - 2/23/2013, 1:00 AM
I hate how they tricked us with deathstroke but I could see them teaming up also if u dbags at WB stop holding the rights to batman hostage I think that would be a better teamup than Sam and dean.
GetsugaTensho22 - 2/23/2013, 5:15 AM
I think Ollie should be called The Emerald Archer. They're already calling Malcolm Merlyn the "Dark Archer" so this is a good counterpart.
GUNSMITH - 2/23/2013, 12:57 PM
HOW ABOUT BOTH OF THEM START WITH DUDE SPEEDY THE THEA SPEEDY TO TAKE HIS PLACE AFTER....SHOOT WE DONT EVEN KNOW IF THEY CAN BOW FLEX WELL
ToddDamian - 2/23/2013, 2:30 PM
Roy's cool so far and has charm. I thought the whole mom-addicted-to-Vertigo story was an homage to his own problems in the comics, but then his line to Thea at the end about not believing sob stories leaves it open.

I don't really think Thea has it in her to be a sidekick to Ollie, although apparently she has an archery trophy or medal in her room that can be seen during the pilot. However, that could've just been an easter egg referencing the whole Speedy nickname.

I think Roy could be a good sidekick, but have him slide into the Arsenal persona instead of Red Arrow, because how many master archers can there be in a believable city? And what are the odds that they'd all be so closely related? Then again, when Helena came around, Ollie tried transitioning her from guns to arrows, so you never know.
PeterParker1991 - 2/23/2013, 3:09 PM
Liked his introduction. I could see him becoming Red Arrow in future seasons as long as he gets some proper development. Thea better not become Speedy. That bitch is so freakin annoying
