Last week, we saw a rumor which stated that Mia Wasikowska, the main star of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, is in the running for the role of Johanna Mason in the upcoming The Hunger Games sequel, which also will be an adaptation of the second book of the series, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. However, Entertainment Weekly has recently learned that the rumor was false, as the Australian actress herself in fact has never been approached to participate in the sequel, and will not be able to in any way due to her commitment for other projects this year. As her possible replacement is actress Jena Malone (Sucker Punch), according to the site's exclusive report. There's no word regarding model Zoe Aggeliki, who was also reported to be in the running for the role alongside Mia Wasikowska, creating the assumption that she is still attached to the movie, and will possibly compete with Jena Malone to star in the highly-anticipated sequel.

In the books, Johanna Mason is a tribute of the 75th Hunger Games from District 7, who is described as "sarcastic, mean-spirited, and often cruel tribute who possesses a wicked ability to murder." There's not yet any official confirmation from Lionsgate regarding any of the reports above, so stay tuned for more casting updates of the movie.

In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, a rebellion against the oppressive Capitol has begun, and Katniss Everdeen and fellow tribute Peeta Mellark are forced to return to the arena in a special edition of the Hunger Games. Under the direction of Francis Lawrence and with Jennifer Lawrence returning for the main role, the movie is set to be released on November 22, 2013.

So, this article isn't about an Alice in Wonderland seguel? I couldn't tell.

I'm sure Johanna is described as being tanned and well built ... Jena Malone doesn't seem like that to me, but maybe?

Jena looks way better as a blonde ...

The first one was really boring. I hope they pick up the pace.

@damntree So many people complained they weren't enough action in the first one, when sure, but the first one is made to to tell the story, as though each film will add up to one big movie. I thought the first one was perfect in telling us Katniss's story and setting up the theme for the next movies.

i'd inject her

This would be terrible. The most attitude I've seen her exude was in Sucker Punch, and that's not even half-way how Johanna is supposed to be.

Like I've said before, I imagined "Jack" from Mass Effect when I read the books. Someone rude, overly assertive, sexually confident, with really thick skin.

I'm thinking Eliza Dushku

You're insinuating that True Blood is boring?
