COMICS: Lettered Preview Of Skottie Young's ROCKET RACCOON #1

As defenders of the cosmos go, Rocket Raccoon has faced his fair share of galactic battles. He’s been a hero to the weak, a champion of good, a protector of the innocent, a heartthrob to the many intergalactic female species and now--a raccoon on the run?! ( I’m sorry, I’m sorry, a “formidable-and-expert-Guardian” on the run. Rocket is NOT a raccoon, okay?) Rocket’s high-flying life of adventure and heroism may soon be a thing of the past when he becomes a wanted man—and the authorities are not the only one on his TAIL! (We’ll definitely be overusing that pun!) Superstar creator Skottie Young brings his A-game as writer and artist on the series we’ve been waiting decades for. Because let’s be real, this is the only Guardian of the Galaxy you actually care about. Am I right?

I don't know. I have VERY mixed feelings about this.
Bekss - 6/27/2014, 12:51 PM
Fillion tweeted this

@NathanFillion: With so much inaccurate "news" about my involvement in GOTG, I'm actually losing faith in the internet. I'm not Cosmo.

@JamesGunn: @NathanFillion Tell me about it, brother.
MercwithMouth - 6/27/2014, 12:52 PM
Haha, looks pretty funny. Artwork is pretty interesting too.
HorrorPilot - 6/27/2014, 12:52 PM
Shitty art.
KrazyForKomix - 6/27/2014, 12:52 PM
i despise photo covers.

Ick!
NinjaKickTheDamnRabbit - 6/27/2014, 12:54 PM
Young's art fit's very well. Haters, hate some place else.
Gusto - 6/27/2014, 12:57 PM
LOL...I kinda dig it.
Shroombeast - 6/27/2014, 12:59 PM
I want to be ok with the poppy punkish style of the art... but I'm just not.
I was hoping for something less serious. Well, less childish...
The funny talking Raccoon DOES kill people ya know...
Indy - 6/27/2014, 1:01 PM
I'll give this a try It looks funny. The art has a funny cartoon look to it which I think fit with the vibe I am getting from this book.
Karmatron - 6/27/2014, 1:02 PM
@Gusto

I kinda dig you
Karmatron - 6/27/2014, 1:03 PM
Art looks interesting and the dialogue is funny

I will give this series a try, pretty sure I am gonna enjoy it
Gusto - 6/27/2014, 1:10 PM
Thanks. I am pretty [frick]in' awesome.
McGee - 6/27/2014, 1:15 PM
I wish they had gotten H. Jon Benjamin to voice Rocket.

They wasted Bradley Cooper on this role. He could have played an actual A or B-list hero. He has the body for it....damn, does he have a body.....Mmmmmm.
yossarian - 6/27/2014, 1:17 PM
No shit he isn't Cosmo. He is sentry.
McGee - 6/27/2014, 1:17 PM
He can still play one right? Is he doing the cockney accent?
yossarian - 6/27/2014, 1:27 PM
Do you guys think Gusto would love or hate it if Hal Jordan and Danny Rand flat out [frick]ed each other?
yossarian - 6/27/2014, 1:30 PM
I mean weird [frick]ing too. Like Hal lost his ring up there and Danny "iron-fisted" that ass?
CaptShipwreck - 6/27/2014, 1:36 PM
That made me laugh
MercwithMouth - 6/27/2014, 1:37 PM
@yoss

Ummm...might actually drive up Green Lantern sales...almost as much as it would if they have Hal a brain...

yossarian - 6/27/2014, 1:42 PM
Heck yeah it would drive up GL sales. Readers would be all, "Finally...a GL book with a hero in it! Thank you!"
ShelfPorn - 6/27/2014, 1:53 PM
Looks awesome to me. I'm on board.
huckfinnisher - 6/27/2014, 2:10 PM
I suppose the art fits the character but it's not my cuppa. Pass.
DrDoom - 6/27/2014, 2:23 PM
Eh. Art style isn't for me.
Spiderpimp - 6/27/2014, 2:31 PM
mcnyagano has already read this
Treebeard - 6/27/2014, 2:31 PM
Let the unrelenting reign of Rocket begin...
Treebeard - 6/27/2014, 2:33 PM
Oh shit! Just saw the Southern Bastards shirt! Skottie, you dog, you!
Treebeard - 6/27/2014, 2:35 PM
And Chewie, and Earthworm Jim and maybe even Ludo?? Dammit, now I got to buy this..
vtopa - 6/27/2014, 2:44 PM
Seems like they are trying a little too hard to make him like DEADPOOL.
marvel72 - 6/27/2014, 3:11 PM
who would of thought that a talking raccoon would be a household name in 2014.
Hellboy6666 - 6/27/2014, 3:36 PM
Please Marvel just don't "Deadpool" this guy and put him everywhere. Soon he'll be the single saving grace of an entire event, partner up with his Zombie head, show up in both his own stories as well as Xforce,Xmen..and then fade away when lazy writers take over. Rocket is like wine, great as an aperitif or with a nice steak but too much and you've got a bad fricken headache, your heads all foggy, memory fuzzy and your butthole hurts. That happens when you guys drink wine right?
LensmanMatt92 - 6/27/2014, 3:43 PM
Nobody cared about Rocket Raccoon until Keith Giffe put him in the Annihilation Conquest storyline.

The artwork is a bit too weird for my tastes but it fits the tone.
ColonelKilgore - 6/27/2014, 4:19 PM
This guy's art is too outputting for me. I mean at least they are not children in this but come on. Its like he drew a caricature of the marvel universe, the based another caricature on said caricature.

I think I confused myself.
haroldthehand - 6/27/2014, 6:12 PM
There is a rumor that Nathan Fillion may appear in a very small cameo on an upcoming episode of "Castle"...
dethpillow - 6/27/2014, 6:29 PM
i don't like the way this is.
oh well, win some lose some.
it comes off wrong, definitely gonna check out a couple issues once it starts going tho.

@KrazyforKomix - yeah i don't understand photo covers either. who likes them?

i don't even think people who don't read comic books would really want to pick one up vs a regular cover....
i don't think anyone likes them. it's weird.

it reminds me of they make movie tie in books ( i don't mean this one ) but things like a prelude to GOTG or Cap2 or whatever, they always seem to purposefully make them bad, both the writing and the art. totally purposefully bad it seems like.
is this becuz they think people who don't read comics like bad things? and they are trying to reach out to them?

or is it done out of some weird kind of spite, i wonder? like resentment about how movies steal all their characters and plots and don't pay them anything.
i've wondered a lot about that.
dethpillow - 6/27/2014, 6:30 PM
like say with DOFP, did Chris Claremont get any extra money for that, u think?

i think he must right? i'm not sure tho.
Battabing - 6/27/2014, 11:39 PM
I know she's an alien, but couldn't Rocket's date be non-humanoid?
It's kinda skeevy wondering what other things she and Rocket could be doing in her room.

Ugh.
pepe - 6/28/2014, 3:23 AM
Yikes
TheDpool - 6/28/2014, 3:54 AM
Was that a Cyclops cameo there? I know the young counterpart is in space at the moment so maybe?
dethpillow - 6/28/2014, 5:04 AM
@Battabing - Rocket likes human looking girls, it seems like.
that just his tastes, i think. becuz when Angela came, he was really into her.
she didn't like him tho.
