Captain America got his butt kicked by a former sidekick, Spider-Man was shocked when he clashed with Electro, the X-Men finally got to battle the Sentinels on the big screen and the Guardians of the Galaxy felt the wrath of Thanos. So, which of these villains was 2014's best bad guy?

Overall it's been a pretty good year for superhero movies, and while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would prove to be the most devisive, Marvel Studios can still do no wrong in the eyes of the majority and Bryan Singer was welcomed back with open arms to the X-Men franchise. As a result of four big Marvel movies being released within six months, some familiar faces returned and we were introduced to plenty of characters who made their big screen débuts.

We've already asked you who your favourite superheroes were from this year's four big Marvel releases, and the results were surprising to say the least! So, how about the bad guys?

We got to see the return of some familiar faces (sort of) as Bucky came back from the dead and Harry Osborn beat his father to becoming the Green Goblin, while the likes of Electro and Ronan the Accuser would make their live-action debuts. Oh, and Thanos finally got a voice!

This is obviously a very lengthy list as each of the movies listed above actually featured multiple villains! All of the main foes of our favourite superheroes have been included here, but if we've forgotten anyone, be sure to let us know in the comments section. Cast your votes below...

Winter Soldier!

I chose Winter Soldier over Magneto solely because I felt Magneto was less of a villain in DOFP than Winter Soldier was in Cap. Only villain I can say from the entire list I was actually disappointed with was Rhino to be honest, I feel like we had a strong year for CBM villains

Magneto..hands down. As cool at TWS was, how anyone can choose him when he was in the movie for all of 10 mins is beyond me.

Winter Soldier
Not only Cap2 has the best hand to hand fights in every CBM but also is emotional as hell

lol@Winter Soldier. You know exactly where you are on the internet when you see that in the lead.

The top contenders are clearly Magneto, Ronin and Trask.

I have not paid to watch a Fox-Men movie since Fox-Men 2. I will probably never watch DOFP heck I still have not seen Wolverine 5 I mean 2 yet.

Most of the intelligence community doesn't believe he exists. The ones that do call him the Winter Soldier.

Yeah, I was gonna say the WS but then I went with Magneto instead for the exact reasons you listed.

I mean, sure he looks cool, fights cool and the movie is amazing. But he doesn't really say much or do a lot of stuff anybody who ISN'T Bucky couldn't have done.

If anybody else would've been the WS without ties to Cap you'd basically get the same guy we got in CATWS. I also think the goings on in this movie are too big for the movie to be called The Winter Soldier, what with HYDRA infiltrating SHIELD and what not.

KOBA was the best villian of the year, but comic book wise Id give it to Magento, only bc The Winter Soldier was doing someone elses dirty work

Andy Dick.
NeoBaggins

A villain is in charge of his of own motives and devices his schemes with character. Winter Soldier is a mindless pawn and cannot even be considered for villain in any capacity.

Screen time isn't important. In the few minutes WS was in the movie it was menacing and a badass.
It wasn't just a physical challenge for Cap but an emotional as well, it was like his brother and Cap would let Bucky kil him before fighting against him (when it was no longer necessary).
And the way Sebastian Stan expressed all those feelings without talking was just amazing.
