Gary Oldman Looks Back On Commissioner Gordon Role; TDKR "Will Go Out With A Bang"

"It's been seven years, maybe more since we did the first one. You miss the people, there's a loyalty to Chris and there's a lot of people that work with him all the time," he told Digital Spy in the video interview below. "Actors do come and go, but apart from the mainstays of Michael [Caine], Morgan [Freeman] and Christian [Bale] the crew is the same, from the caterers to the camera operator."

"It's like reuniting with a family, that was sad, I miss that. We will go out with a bang, I'm sworn to secrecy but it's a great story. An epic conclusion." While everyone involved with the movie has so far promised that The Dark Knight Rises will end in an "epic" fashion, the question now is whether or not it will indeed live up to the high fan expectations. Judging by the recently released trailer, it's fair to say that the answer to that is already clear. Sound off with your thoughts below.

CaptainTall - 12/21/2011, 4:16 PM
Second favorite actor... He just dissolves into each of his roles. One of my inspirations for wanting to be an actor!

Anyway, I'll stop the brown nosing now and just say, The Dark Knight Rises.... TO THE TOP OF THE BOX OFFICE!

Or whatever it means to be extremely successful. Lol
JackRussoff - 12/21/2011, 4:18 PM
@Grif

So you never answered me. Have you ever given a compliment or said anything besides "shit movie"? After 3 years I haveseen you bash EVERYTHING on this site. What's your favorite CBM? Do you even like comics???
AC1 - 12/21/2011, 4:21 PM
Gary Oldman's the man!

@Intruder there's no way in hell this movie will be a box office bomb. Sure, it may deviate from the comics somewhat, but most of the cinema going audience don't give a shit about comics anyway. The Dark Knight is currently in the Top 10 highest grossing films of all time, and was a major critical success too. Based on that alone, as well as all the hype around it, this film is sure to at least come close to earning that kind of cash, meaning it will in no way be a bomb. I'm not saying that as a Nolan fan, or a Batman fan, I'm saying that as a movie fan, and one with enough sense to see how these things work.

Having said that, I'm still very much on the fence about this film. I know it'll be a good film, based on Nolan's track record and the cast, but as a Batman fan... some of the changes that it seems Chris Nolan is making are quite worrying. I really hope that Bane does use Venom in at least some way shape or form, and at least gets some form of physical enhancement from it.
nailbiter111 - 12/21/2011, 4:23 PM
yah grif has a soft spot for star trek, babylon 5, LOTR/HOBBIT
Supes17 - 12/21/2011, 4:24 PM
I heard he also loved Green Lantern:p
nowtheresaBATman - 12/21/2011, 4:25 PM
@marvel72 the ONLY bad casting was the Rachel Dawes character. Both annoying as hell. My opinions on the rest are equal. They're all the best for the character's they played.
40oz - 12/21/2011, 4:26 PM
@acira, he is not going to use venom, its some gas to kill the pain from the accident he was in or something like that. Which makes a better villian. If bane used some steroids to get huge, that just isn't as interesting. Works fine in the comics, not on film imo.
MarkV - 12/21/2011, 4:27 PM
Do you think Nolan is working on some kind of twist? Like maybe Wayne "dying" and becoming Ras, or something even trippier.
PaulRom - 12/21/2011, 4:29 PM
Grif also likes Clash Of The Titans apparently.
JackRussoff - 12/21/2011, 4:31 PM
I'm an exception. I used to be a loyal marvel zombie. Then I jumped ship when thy put wolverine in the avengers. I had always liked some DC titles (flash, gl) and ead specific storlines like Knightfall but marvel got redundant with events and character deaths. So I jumped to DC full time and never buy another marvel title. Having said that, I still think the marvel studios movies (and singer-attached x-men) are superior to anything WB puts out. What does DC really have besides 2 decent batman films? Begins was mediocre and TDK was too drawn out. GL and superman Returns were failures. Even the first 2 spidey films were better than Nolans work. Geoff Johns was supposed to save DC's movie universe instead he let the execs rape Hal Jordan. Something needs to give. At least Marvels excuse can be "we can't control the shit Fox puts out"
MarkV - 12/21/2011, 4:34 PM
Now THAT would be a head trip.
AC1 - 12/21/2011, 4:35 PM
@40oz well yeah, I don't mean some sort of super steroid that will make him a giant like in the comics, but I mean something that just gives him an extra edge, maybe a small boost for his physical strength or some kind of adrenaline that makes him a lot harder to defeat. Just a little something to make him more of a threat to Batman. We all know about the pain killer gas, but I'm hoping Nolan's got a little extra surprise for us, something we'll only find out about when we see the film.
JackRussoff - 12/21/2011, 4:36 PM
I love babylon 5! Sheldon cooper is a fool! Al of the star treks are fine with me from TNG forward (the original series is before my time. I'm only 30) and the LoTR is enjoyable as well as clash of the titans. But none of those are comic properties....whas this site called again?
comicoverlord - 12/21/2011, 4:42 PM
I'm thinking there is no way Nolan won't stay on as producer after TDKR. I'm hoping WB goes with James McTeigue for director.
40oz - 12/21/2011, 4:51 PM
@acira, I hope so as well, and that would be cool... Just ready to watch this damn thing already
JackRussoff - 12/21/2011, 4:53 PM
What will be the excuse is avengers or spiderman outperforms Rises?
MarkV - 12/21/2011, 4:55 PM
Strange1, is your handle taken from Army of Darkness?

History repeats itself jackrusso
JackRussoff - 12/21/2011, 5:15 PM
I just said "IF". Spiderman is sort of fresh. I said yesterday that my aunt won't let my nephew see batman after the last one cuz of the violence which is dumb. Plus spidey is in 3D and the masses love that shit now. I think spidey and batman open up the same month so it wil really split the box office. Spiderman has an edge in those departments. Although the spidey trailer looks too dark which is sad because its too Nolanish. It needs to be bright and witty
JackRussoff - 12/21/2011, 5:22 PM
I'm sorry but the law of trilogies applies to everyone. Even Nolan. Here's how trilogies work:

The 1st one makes people say "wow that was awesome! Groundbreaking, etc." Much hype for sequel.

The 2nd one outshines original in every way. "Better than the 1st!" People say.

The 3rd one has more hype tha the previous 2 combined. We are promised 'The epic conclusion to...' and it underwhelms moviegoers. They are disappointed they wasted 5-7 years of their life devoted to this and turn on it saying "bring on a reboot"
40oz - 12/21/2011, 5:23 PM
Forgot about the 3d thing, but still thinking Batman will get it... This is the finale Batman for Nolan, and the spiderman thing is a reboot, which turn some people off, but either way it will be interesting to see which cbm is the money maker next summer, my money is on bats
