Has The Big Screen Adaptation Of Mark Millar's NEMESIS Been Scrapped?

While there's nothing to say we'll never see the popular comic book series from writer Mark Millar and artist Steve Mcniven up on the big screen, it would appear that the project has been put on hold for the time being.

When it was first announced that 20th Century Fox has aqquired the rights to the big screen adaptation of the violent four part series, news soon followed that Tony Scott would direct and there was a considerable amount of buzz surrounding the possible casting of Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp. Since then, we've not heard all that much about Nemesis and while Scott has seemingly moved on to various other projects (he was also attached to 24: The Movie shortly after) there's been no other updates. Until now it seems. Bleeding Cool has spotted the following conversation which took place between Mark Millar and The A-Team director Joe Carnahan on Twitter earlier today.

Now, there's nothing here which would point to the movie having been completely scrapped, but it seems that Millar's hectic schedule (which resulted in some lengthy delays between the release of each issue) may have caused Fox to put it on hold, although it's been completed a while now so that doesn't explain why it's been "[frick]ed off" or its current status. Stay tuned for updates as and when we have them.

Well that kind of sucks but I guess a Batman ripoff wasn't in the cards, still I liked the book.

I was re-reading some old issues of "Superman Adventures" and couldn't believe that the thoughtful, great writing was from the same Mark Millar who has become one of the biggest Hollywood whores in the comics industry.

To be fair to Millar, the artists on those series are Marvel exclusives, so Marvel can and has pulled them off Millar's projects to work on other stuff first.

-'too controversial'
-'too hard to do to'
-'too expensive'

I hope some director has the balls & interest to pursue it one day though.
