In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, Marvel Studios' head honcho Kevin Feige has revealed a few new details about the mysterious army set to appear in The Avengers. Below is just a brief excerpt from the article, but be sure to pick the magazine up when it goes on sale later this week to read much, much more.

"Who said they were aliens?" he teases. Beings from the Nine Realms, then, ventures Empire? "Closer...It's not Skrulls, I've been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we're not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that."

"Was Skull vaporised at the end of the movie, or thrust into another realm?" asks Feige. "That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he's not in this one." Whedon though is a little more circumspect when Empire confronts him. "I do have a comment on that," he says, before pulling a move worthy of Loki himself. "It's...oh, you're breaking up!"

Well, those Kree/Skrull rumors can now be put to rest for good it seems. It is also interesting that Feige points out that while they are from the comic books, their identity isn't "impactful". As for the Red Skull, it would appear that Marvel Studios definitely have plans for him in the future...let the speculation commence!

BackwardGalaxy - 1/23/2012, 4:28 AM
So how many of you will rise up and declare "I called it!" when the identity is finally revealed?
orpheus - 1/23/2012, 4:29 AM
Maybe he's just new king of the frost giants or something uninteresting like that
kurekurcubic - 1/23/2012, 4:31 AM
yeah and also tom hiddleston said that he is not in avengers...
just make it big and good and let it be a massive invasion or something.
MovieMaster - 1/23/2012, 4:31 AM
Jolt17 - 1/23/2012, 4:34 AM
The word 'impactful' is misspelled as 'imapctful' in the excerpt, just a heads-up. :)

Anyway, this is getting more interesting...I won't guess, I won't speculate. I'll just wait and see.
6of13 - 1/23/2012, 4:35 AM
Stop teasing.
Negative zone...Annihilus?
mickbhoy - 1/23/2012, 4:40 AM

marvel72 - 1/23/2012, 4:40 AM
i don't think impactful is an actual word is it,impacted & impaction but i don't believe you can have impactful.
CraptainAmerica - 1/23/2012, 4:44 AM
It's The Kree
hunterelf - 1/23/2012, 4:45 AM
no skrull/kree because they're in the fantastic 4 universe which belongs to fox
NeoBaggins - 1/23/2012, 4:46 AM
The identity of the alien race is not impactful? I wonder what he means by that. Aliens coming to town and ripping shit up can't easily be down played. Judging by the trailer, the whole world knows they're here.

Oh well, at least the Skrull thing can be laid to rest.
jatfly - 1/23/2012, 4:48 AM
Has anyone suggested the Frost Giants??? I mean why not it would explain a lot of stuff? Like Loki's involvement and the group being brought together? If there were enough of them and the fact they start killing thousands of Humans?? Just thinking out loud...
TheSoulEater - 1/23/2012, 4:51 AM
Lets think people "he says he has ways of getting to the 9 realms that to even Heimdal with all his gifts are blind too...but has no need of them as he is king."

They revealed an infinity gauntlet at comic con, ITS THANOS!!!
Denn1s - 1/23/2012, 4:52 AM
i was telling all this time. it is not skrulls or kree. they are just creatures loki gathered throughout the nine realms. technically they are aliens to us.
MovieMaster - 1/23/2012, 4:54 AM
@demonhunter15- Yep, those're the aliens. Although they're shrouded in smoke so you can barely see them.
Hawksblueyes - 1/23/2012, 4:56 AM
Atlanteans or possibly Inhumans?
6of13 - 1/23/2012, 5:00 AM
I have not seen Thor since it was in theatres, but correct me if I have remembered wrong but didn't Loki kill Laufey and attempt to destroy Jotunheim? I don't think the frost giants would be very eager to help Loki after all this.
Praetorian - 1/23/2012, 5:09 AM
Atlantians. At this point the only thing keeping me sceptacle are the blue lasers in the trailer shooting down from the sky and everyone looking up
Hawksblueyes - 1/23/2012, 5:11 AM
tea: I've been thinking it was either Thanos' motley hoard or Annhilus' army on loan for a long time. However, seeing as how Marvel has made it very clear that they are pursuing a Inhumans film in the future what better way to introduce them than to have them duped into fighting The Avengers by Loki?

I know it's a long reach but it would be cool and I could see it working.
Hawksblueyes - 1/23/2012, 5:13 AM
For that matter.....with their technology it could even be the Wakandans tricked into some kind of confrontation by Loki.
Praetorian - 1/23/2012, 5:23 AM
Actually not a bad idea Tea
95 - 1/23/2012, 5:35 AM
Probably some outcast alien criminals.
Variety of species, locked in the Negative Zone prison.
StrangerX - 1/23/2012, 5:36 AM
I don't see why it wouldn't be the Chitauri. They are going the Ultimates route anyway.
Mrcool210 - 1/23/2012, 5:42 AM
cool story kevin
Hawksblueyes - 1/23/2012, 5:44 AM
knossis: Great point. I hadn't given that a thought but you're right.
Hawksblueyes - 1/23/2012, 5:49 AM
Intruder: If you re - read what I said you would see that I said The Inhumans are "duped" by Loki. The "on loan" comment was referring to Thanos or Annhilus as if they had some kind of deal working.

Pay attention Trudy you're usually more attentive than that. =D

"we're not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that."

thanos83 - 1/23/2012, 6:14 AM
Anyone have any art they can post of the deviant/atlantian/negative zone forces?
Orphix - 1/23/2012, 6:18 AM
It's gonna be Ewoks.
comicb00kguy - 1/23/2012, 6:19 AM
I think it's Kang and Kodos, maybe with a guest appearance by Serak the Preparer.
6of13 - 1/23/2012, 6:20 AM
I think Loki is using the purple infinity gem to travel to any location in any of the 9 realms, Negative Zone and anywhere else and Thor may simply follow Loki to Earth. Thor attempts to bring Loki back to Asgard.
- Something alerts SHIELD to Loki or some danger.
- Iron Man, Captain America and Hawkeye are sent off to investigate and stop this.
- Thor is trying to find Loki and take him back to Asgard.
- The cross paths with Thor (in the forest in the trailer) who is fighting Loki. Captain America and Iron Man attack Thor and Loki.

- Hulk arrives on the scence and intervenes and "defeats" Loki.

- At the end of the fight Loki is captured and taken back to SHIELD

- Thor goes with to oversee what happens to Loki

- Loki escapes with the Cosmic Cube

- Thor is asked to join The Avengers
MassExecutions - 1/23/2012, 6:20 AM
Yeah, I'm signing on to the theory that its some random crew of aliens borrowed from Thanos, for right now. I mean, if Tea and Hawks are for it, who can be against it?
jasonicus - 1/23/2012, 6:32 AM
I'd be all for the Atlanteans.
JackBauer - 1/23/2012, 6:41 AM
Either Atlanteans or Deviants.
JackBauer - 1/23/2012, 6:44 AM
or Rigellians or Badoon.
JackBauer - 1/23/2012, 6:46 AM
or the Dire Wraiths or Space Phantoms :)
Al - 1/23/2012, 6:53 AM
I'm in agreement with the mighty knossis on this regarding Cap! Knossis, you have a great point! Cap's recognitive/enhanced memory is pretty amazing and would indeed be useful in such a situation! Good eye!

On another note, I have one question...what's this about actress Jenna Agutter saying Spiderman's making an appearance in the Avengers? If that were true, that'd mean Marvel would have had to get the rights back to spidey, which I hadn't heard anything about; Probably a mistake. Anyone hear about this?
Darkhaven - 1/23/2012, 7:14 AM
My official stance at this point is the Annihilation Wave bugs, with the possibly EPIC intro of Annihilus.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the Space Phantoms though; they shapeshift, they were in super early Avenger comics, and they've shown up recently in Marvel Super Hero Squad.

Also, Dire Wraiths are related to Skrulls, so there's the shapeshifting. And they're part reptilian, so that could account for the green and scaly descriptions from early reports.
