American Film Institute Names THE DARK KNIGHT RISES One Of The Ten Best Movies Of 2012

The American Film Institute has today announced their official selections for the AFI Awards which "document the year's most outstanding achievements in film and television." On the lists (we also have the one for television) are some names which are sure to be familiar to comic fans.

Below are the official selections for next January's AFI Awards 2012. While some notable releases are omitted due to the fact that they are non-American productions (Skyfall and The Artist for example), this might just be our first indication of what we will and will not see nominated at the Academy Awards. As you can see, The Dark Knight Rises and Django Unchained made the list, while Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead are included in their top ten list for television. The creative ensembles for each of these selections will be honoured on Friday, January 11, 2013 in Los Angeles.

GoILL - 12/10/2012, 11:28 AM
I liked it so i'm cool with this news.
nerdman81 - 12/10/2012, 11:35 AM
Just more undeserved praise for a disappointing, mediocre movie.
thefirstavenger97 - 12/10/2012, 11:38 AM
And battle begins in 3...2...1...
PaulRom - 12/10/2012, 11:38 AM
Well deserved. Best movie of the year next to Avengers. Really hope it gets a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars.
ACira - 12/10/2012, 11:42 AM
I loved Silver Linings Playbook, and Argo was brilliant too. Not sure TDKR deserves to be on that list, but ah well. Can't wait for Django Unchained, and I'm also eagerly anticipating Lincoln. Les Mis looks great too.
JoeMomma29 - 12/10/2012, 11:44 AM
I am happy with it as well, at least one cbm made it!

DrHorrible - 12/10/2012, 11:45 AM
OH GOD. Josh is back with ANOTHER TDKR article that'll do nothing but incite incessant bitching. Oh well...

TheSkywalkingKnight - 12/10/2012, 11:45 AM
Here we go again. Can't wait to see these losers bitch over a $1B grossing, critically acclaimed, A cinemascoring film about a guy who dresses up like a Bat...

Sigh.
PaulRom - 12/10/2012, 11:45 AM
Lincoln was great. Not sure if it deserves Best Picture, but definitely needs a nomination. Day-Lewis was phenomenal.
And I'm extremely excited for Les Mis. Hathaway deserves an Oscar for her performance.
Jazza815 - 12/10/2012, 11:46 AM
Really ?

Fighting over which was the better film, just kill yourselve's you pitiless virgins
SuspenseSmith - 12/10/2012, 11:46 AM
When I say, "no," you say, "survivors."

"No..."
"You suck, Bane!"

elcaballerooscuro92 - 12/10/2012, 11:46 AM

TheSkywalkingKnight - 12/10/2012, 11:47 AM

SuspenseSmith - 12/10/2012, 11:47 AM

Awesome-Nolan and crew are completely deserving!

Great list all those films are awesome...
RorMachine - 12/10/2012, 11:48 AM
I haven't seen DJANGO UNCHAINED, LES MISÉRABLES, LIFE OF PI, LINCOLN or ZERO DARK THIRTY yet but the rest of the movies on that list were brilliant so kudos. And before someone else says it, yes The Avengers was awesome but that's just not the type of movie these guys will ever recognize.. sad as that may be.
DC4everLantern - 12/10/2012, 11:48 AM
Thank God... No Avengers! Best Decision ever! Batman rules again.
fettastic - 12/10/2012, 11:50 AM
BUCKLE UP BITCHES!
SuspenseSmith - 12/10/2012, 11:51 AM
Same principle as LOTR here. The trilogy as a whole is awesome. I like this movie, despite it's flaws. Every movie has flaws... and TDKR is better than "The Kids Are Alright" and that got best picture nominee.

It's also better than Avatar.. and THAT got best picture nominee...
Scooby - 12/10/2012, 11:51 AM
Explosion ahead
Squish - 12/10/2012, 11:53 AM
Ha this is pure Bull Shit. The dark knight rises does not belong on that list.
TheSkywalkingKnight - 12/10/2012, 11:53 AM
SuspenseSmith: "Have you heard the phrase, "you are what you eat", because when I look at you, guess what I see; I'll tell you, a bagel with cream cheese."

"C-c-COMBO BREAKER! FINISH HIM! FATALITY! BANE WINS!"

DioFoRio - 12/10/2012, 11:53 AM
@Ror ....you see Beasts of the southern wild? good flick
ricko8687 - 12/10/2012, 11:54 AM
TDKR good but not great.
prototype87 - 12/10/2012, 11:54 AM
Azazel1 - 12/10/2012, 11:55 AM
@Ror- Go out now and see both Dark Zero Thirty and Les Miserables!
dukester9 - 12/10/2012, 11:55 AM
As it should
BaneSmash - 12/10/2012, 11:56 AM
In the great word of the Joker, HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Stumblin - 12/10/2012, 11:57 AM
Eh, this movie could win all the awards it wants, doesn't mean I have to like the movie.
Azazel1 - 12/10/2012, 11:58 AM
In terms of pure filmaking TDKR deserves to be on that list.

The film is every bit as these other films in terms of directing, writing, acting etc all the majors..
BaneSmash - 12/10/2012, 11:59 AM
Wtf Boardwalk Empire should be on that [frick]en list..........
Maximus101 - 12/10/2012, 11:59 AM
Makes me laugh that a certain other movie isn't on that list lol should be some raging in this thread soon.
RorMachine - 12/10/2012, 11:59 AM
Dionysios, saw it, and wept like a little girl at the end:)

Azazel1, I will as soon as they are released here!
upside - 12/10/2012, 12:00 PM
it was an entertaining movie...just not a good Batman movie.
BaneSmash - 12/10/2012, 12:01 PM
You don't have to like it, your choice and truelly respect your choice not to like this movie.
ComicFanMan - 12/10/2012, 12:02 PM
Photobucket
BaneSmash - 12/10/2012, 12:02 PM
Definitely going to see Les Mis and zero dark 30..........
SuspenseSmith - 12/10/2012, 12:02 PM
The Dark Knight Rises may not be the best, but I think it's better than these pandering Oscar begging pieces of shit:

The Blind Side
Milk
The Kids Are All Right
Brokeback Mountain
Million Dollar Baby
Chicago (This won?)
Moulin Rouge
The Cider House Rules
Elizabeth the snoozer
Babe... really?

ComicFanMan - 12/10/2012, 12:03 PM
boy its a bad day to be a marvelite...
BaneSmash - 12/10/2012, 12:03 PM
@comicfan lol........thats is great!!
Azazel1 - 12/10/2012, 12:04 PM
At Suspense, nice list dude the only one I disagree with is Brokeback Mountain which I think was totally deserving of everything it received in terms of awards..
SkaarJones - 12/10/2012, 12:06 PM

Walking Dead gets Best Game of the Year.

Hopefully Walking Dead gets Best TV Series of the Year.

Only fitting.
fettastic - 12/10/2012, 12:10 PM
[frick] it, I'm going to use this space to say what I want in a Batman reboot.

1)Although I really love the costume from the last 2 films, I'd like a stripped down Batman next time. I want a very Jim Lee look to him. Short ears, charcoal black cape and cowl, with dark gray bodysuit and black bat logo on his chest. Do this part like they did the Spider-Man suit in the Sam Raimi films. Do this if for no other reason than to finally see it done right. Also, give him white eyes goddamnit! Oh, and a SCALLOPED CAPE! I miss that shit!

2)I want Bruce to have a real romantic relationship this time. Not because I'm some mushy panzy, but because when she gets kidnapped (they always get kidnapped), it will actually have some emotional resonance.

In fact, introduce Catwoman in the first movie and make her his doomed love affair for the whole series. That's what we all want for him anyway.

3) I want Bruce Wayne to actually care about Wayne Enterprises. It would be nice to see what they actually do and how Bruce has a natural talent for guiding that company.

4) I like Nolan's take on the batverse, but I think we're all ready for some more fantasy elements. Three words: Killer [frick]ing Croc.

5) I remember when the first photo of the Tumbler was released and I was pissed! Now I can't believe I had that reaction because it is easily the coolest bat vehicle ever. But I miss the gadgets and the sports car stylings so we need some mixture of both.

6) We need to really understand how dangerous Gotham is. No, that does not mean putting in a purse-snatching. We need to understand that people are just dissapearing. Lives are being ruined and snuffed out. We need to understand this in a visceral way because Gothamites are devoid of hope until Batman shows up. Nolan danced around the edges of this in Batman Begins, but we need to feel it more.

What do you guys think? Am I a [frick]ing retard that has no idea what I'm talking about, or is someone gonna start a slow clap?
