Ultimately, even more than 2007’s "Live Free or Die Hard," "Good Day" never lets McClane be McClane. Gone is his taunting snark and quick-witted preparedness; instead he seems like a jerk with a thing for guns. Willis looks bored, his charisma on autopilot as he waits for his paycheck to clear. When someone tells him "not to make an even bigger mess of things," by movie’s end, that seems pretty hard to do.

-New York Daily News

"Something stinks," says Bruce Willis’ NYPD detective John McClane just before the first of several heavily telegraphed double-crosses are sprung in the Moscow-set "A Good Day To Die Hard" — the fifth and by far the worst installment in this venerable franchise. Actually, Bruce, what stinks is the script — which is woefully lacking the kind of one-liners and memorable bad guys that helped make working-class hero McClane so iconic he’s still around after 25 years. Even the action sequences are pretty much by the numbers this time.

-New York Post

Everything that made the first "Die Hard" memorable — the nuances of character, the political subtext, the cowboy wit — has been dumbed down or scrubbed away entirely. I’m not saying I wish it was the '80s again — or maybe I am. If that makes me a grumpy old man, it’s John McClane’s fault.

-New York Times

At 98 minutes, this is by far the shortest of the Die Hard films, the rest of which run more than two hours. But it ends not a moment too soon.

-The Hollywood Reporter

Whether the Die Hard you know and love or not, it’s still an adrenaline-pumping thrill ride. There’s an extended brutal car chase through Russia containing armored trucks flying and pick-ups driving over gridlocked traffic, unbridled R-rated carnage from a seemingly endless supply of automatic weaponry, and a completely outrageous scene aboard a truck inside a helicopter as both spin towards a crash. The sarcastic humor of the McClanes multiplies with the constant back and forth between like minds, continuity is kept intact with a cameo from Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and even one of the “old jokes” aimed at Willis’ senior citizen hits big despite the reference to 1986 being two years before the character original hit the big screen. It’s an action flick on Valentine’s Day—what more did you want?

-The Film Stage

At the risk of sounding ungrateful for a fresh "Die Hard" sequel, Russia needs its own John McClane movie the way Uncle Sam needs a bright red babushka. On the flimsiest of pretexts, Bruce Willis' obstinate hero travels all the way to Moscow to find trouble in "A Good Day to Die Hard," teaming up with his never-before-seen son to stop a generic terrorist from stealing weapons-grade uranium from Chernobyl -- a subpar plot that feels suspiciously like someone tried to plug McClane into a preexisting screenplay. Fox's shaky bid to boost this installment's international appeal could backfire domestically.

-Variety

Iconoclastic, take-no-prisoners cop John McClane, for the first time, finds himself on foreign soil after traveling to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack – unaware that Jack is really a highly-trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. With the Russian underworld in pursuit, and battling a countdown to war, the two McClanes discover that their opposing methods make them unstoppable heroes.

STARRING:

Bruce Willis as John McClane
Jai Courtney as John "Jack" McClane, Jr.
Cole Hauser as Collins
Sebastian Koch as Komorov
Yuliya Snigir as Irina
Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Lucy McClane

RELEASE DATE: February 14th, 2013.

This was obviously going to happen, for starters don't cast complete unknown's in crucial roles ?

Bruce i think you should hang that white vest up now, or create a time machine and hang the vest up as soon as you read the script with the paycheck on the last page.

DumbledoreCalrissian - 2/13/2013, 2:01 PM
i was kinda hoping it would turn out to be ok ,but i guess not.
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 2/13/2013, 2:03 PM
Stick to movies about being retired extremely dangerous and witty ex-assassin movies with Matthew Perry and naked chicks with guns.
Jollem - 2/13/2013, 2:03 PM
oh, you don't say? well "critics", i'm still gonna watch it. you can't stop me :)
ForeverPowerful - 2/13/2013, 2:06 PM
I dont trust a single critic when it comes to action films. I'm seeing this Friday, and I'm looking forward to seeing McClane kick some ass again.
Nick56 - 2/13/2013, 2:09 PM
Im seeing it on Saturday. I could care less about what critics say, especially about the 5th film in a major action franchise
pro346 - 2/13/2013, 2:09 PM
I'm seeing this critics have no idea.
janitra - 2/13/2013, 2:09 PM
Watched it a week ago.
It's that bad.
GuardianAngel - 2/13/2013, 2:11 PM
I could tell this movie was shit from the beginning. They completely lost everything we loved about the first Die Hard.

...I'm still gonna watch it.
GUNSMITH - 2/13/2013, 2:13 PM
WATCH IT FIRST THEN JUDGE...THE BEST CRITIC IS YOU.
GuardianAngel - 2/13/2013, 2:13 PM

PsyGuy - 2/13/2013, 2:13 PM
It'll still be fun I bet.
subzero1077 - 2/13/2013, 2:14 PM
Dumb franchise anyway.
animeex - 2/13/2013, 2:14 PM
I probably won't go see it but not due to critics. I am only guessing but... The first film his wife and he were at odds and she uses Jenaro but at the end uses Mc Clain. Then wife and him were together in DH2. DH3 has him at odds with the wife again. DH4 has his daughter using a different last (Jenaro)name and he is "John" but at the end she is using his name and he is dad. Now in DH5 the son calls him John so they must be at odds and at the end... Let me guess... He will call him dad and use his last name of Mc Clain. I will wait for this one. The family plot thing is so bad but it looks action packed.
Gmoney84 - 2/13/2013, 2:17 PM
Critics honestly don't understand most action movies. That being said pretty much everybody from the Expendables 2 has had a dud with their follow-up effort.
Thythoutrust - 2/13/2013, 2:21 PM
@Gunsmith
No it's not.

If doctors tell me Mcdonald's is bad for me, if they bring stats and charts to prove their theories, I'll trust them. Same thing for critics Trust the concensus, don't waste your money on cheap tricks and shit movies.

Most people are stupid and make stupid decisions for anything, really. I say trust the educated, wise and well-intentioned people, you're probably an idiot yourself anyways.
batfan175 - 2/13/2013, 2:21 PM
this franchise needs to (puts on sunglasses)...die hard.
TerminalVoyd - 2/13/2013, 2:22 PM
Of course this movie sucked. Skip Woods. Skip FRIGGIN' Woods. The man is movie script cancer. Anyone ever read the original script for X-Men Origins: Wolverine? It wasn't epic or anything, but it was solid work that needed just a bit more polish.

Then they hired SKIP FRIGGIN' WOODS. HOLLYWOOD, STOP GIVING THIS MAN WORK. HE WILL COST YOU MONEY ON TOP OF THE MONEY YOU ALREADY BURNED TO HIRE HIM. STOP EET!

It's really just that simple. And I'm still gonna try and give this a shot but... Skip Woods man....Skip Friggin' Woods!
arashini - 2/13/2013, 2:26 PM
@monkeyballs3

If I had to guess I'd say the "shoes" thing probably comes from some Japanese saying.
arashini - 2/13/2013, 2:32 PM
@monkeyballs3

soundwave129 - 2/13/2013, 2:38 PM

Boogie138 - 2/13/2013, 2:42 PM

and thats the way the cookie crumbles...
Acecalban1 - 2/13/2013, 2:44 PM
A absolute shambles of a movie, There's no set up, why does Mclane actually go to Moscow? The action scenes are over cut, with silly crash zoom and an over kinetic camera. There's zero character development or motivation, the villain is weak and Willis looks bored. At no point does it even feel like a Die Hard movie, it could be any cookie cutter action film starring Bruce Willis.
Die Hard is one of the best (if not the best) action movies ever but this mess of a film is cynical and lazy and at just over 90 minutes feels like it over stays it's welcome.
arashini - 2/13/2013, 2:45 PM
Ultron? what the hell's everyone talking about?
ComicBookMovie - 2/13/2013, 2:45 PM
Got the prick. Ultron is eaten. Nate is working on a fix to his little pop-up fetish.
arashini - 2/13/2013, 2:46 PM
@Thythoutrust

Did you just compare film critics to doctors? not even getting into the vast gap in the gravity of the two jobs, you do realize that doctors deal in facts and film critics deal in opinions. Right?

Furthermore,
I have a friend who's got this strange enthusiasm for films like Clash of the Titans, Immortals, and Wrath of the Titans.

I think those films are "ok, timepass", and the critics say that they are shit.

Doesn't mean I'm gonna go outta my way to ruin his enjoyment for whatever it is that he enjoys.

Sad that I have to explain this to what I'm guessing is a full grown person but:
OPINIONS are SUBJECTIVE

That is not to say that I'll personally enjoy A Good Day to Die Hard. Just saying that I would take away any enjoyment from someone who would
arashini - 2/13/2013, 2:47 PM
^WOULDN'T (last line)
dezdigi - 2/13/2013, 2:54 PM
Critics have saved me a lot of money!
Ramiel - 2/13/2013, 2:56 PM
Ramona Flowers is in this movie?
Maximus101 - 2/13/2013, 3:10 PM
That sucks.. The first and third were amazing, I had hope for a while :(
pro346 - 2/13/2013, 3:11 PM
@thythou you sound like a sheep that needs other people to tell you what movies to watch why are you comparing a doctor to critic? Do you rely on critics to tell you what music to like/listen.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 2/13/2013, 3:14 PM
8% on rotten tomatoes.
As bad as it may be, Rotten Tomatoes are losing their credibility. NO film can possibly be that low.
IMDb FTW
TerminalVoyd - 2/13/2013, 3:24 PM
I'm telling you.... Skip Woods. Beware that name.... If you see it in the credits of a movie you're interested in, RUN THE OTHER WAY!
AC1 - 2/13/2013, 3:41 PM
The only Die Hard I've ever been able to sit through is the first one, which is one of the best action movies ever made IMO, but I think it worked best as a one-off thing.
thewonderer - 2/13/2013, 3:48 PM
Was I the only one who loved Die Hard 4?

I mean come on it was awesome and it has an 81% on RT!!

This, what a [frick]ing disappointment
SaxoWolf - 2/13/2013, 4:08 PM
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/13/2013, 4:23 PM
I have to agree. Bruce really looks lazy in this. He looks lazy in G.I. Joe: Retaliation also. Like he doesnt bother to act anymore.

Thank god my friend has free tickets.
Gary8264 - 2/13/2013, 4:45 PM
I liked all the Die Hard movies, and I'm sure I'll like this one. I like old style action movies, and am glad that there is still a few out there. A action movie should be just that, action.
ahhmynuts - 2/13/2013, 4:56 PM
i personally favor live free or die hard
