Writer Rick Remender has already brought back the Red Skull, and we know from future solicitations that both Apocalypse and Kang the Conquerer aren't too far behind! Well, in a flashforward to three months from now (not literally three months for US; we're talking about actual "time" in the Marvel Universe), we find out who is responsible for a Days of Future Past like Earth; Onslaught! However, this version of the villain (a character who once caused the apparent death of almost all of Marvel's major superheroes) is the same Red Skull who recently fused his brain with that of Charles Xavier. The final page of Uncanny Avengers #4 can be found below along with comments from Remender.

"As we were building the story we were looking for the escalation for the fourth arc, the story that takes place in the second year, and I wanted something recognizable that naturally fit with our plans. It was sitting right in front of me but I never saw it; editor Tom Brevoort pointed out to me that Onslaught was the perfect fit."

"From there about another hundred ideas bubbled up and it fit perfectly with the other plans that we had. It's going to be an entirely different thing than what we saw in the '90s, an entirely different character with an entirely different set of motives. I don't want to give much else away — I think people know how the original Onslaught came into being, and that it has a direct connection to Charles Xavier."

His face looks retarded.
Macksimus - 2/28/2013, 3:43 PM
...uh oh. An Onslaught with the Red Skull's evilness and an anti-mutant agenda? Shit's about to go down.
Macksimus - 2/28/2013, 3:46 PM
...Skullnslaught
exodus147 - 2/28/2013, 3:49 PM
Can't wait to see who is next. Maybe Sabreskull. Howabout Mr Red Sinister. Can't wait for Skullklops.
thorhulk77 - 2/28/2013, 3:50 PM
Onslaught was a tad bit too overpowered, but still cool nonetheless
ACira - 2/28/2013, 3:53 PM
Onslaught was a really weird concept... wasn't he, like, the evil side of Professor X's psyche, combined with half of Magneto's mind or something? Such a silly, trippy idea.
DanteSparda - 2/28/2013, 3:53 PM
Looks stupid, the former Onslaught looked way cooler but wasn't a really good villian, the best memories I have of Onslaught is as the final boss of Marvel VS Capcom.

I'm much more excited to see the team up of Apocalypse and Khan than this but I hope this Onskull turn out to be a better villian.
Lizardking310 - 2/28/2013, 3:56 PM
lame....
marvel72 - 2/28/2013, 3:57 PM
red skull onslaught would of looked better if he had a dome over his head & you could see the skull underneath,a bit like holocaust.
Asterisk - 2/28/2013, 3:58 PM
@Lev

Dude...are you serious? Come on. You're kidding, right?
KeefNCookies - 2/28/2013, 3:58 PM
Ugh. They shamed him TERRIBLY in Onslaught Unleashed (for those who havent read it, consider yourself fortunate). Such a horrendous mini for such a huge villian... I've really hated Uncanny Avengers thus far and by the looks of this, doubt it'll change.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/28/2013, 4:00 PM
I remember reading this yesterday and saying WTF!Red Skull will be the new Onslaught. It's stupid. And is Xavier a zombie?
Nomadic1 - 2/28/2013, 4:00 PM
I thought the Scooby-Do Gang caught him up at the Old Mill?
Brokensteel1228 - 2/28/2013, 4:04 PM
and i still dont care about this book at all
CaptainObvious - 2/28/2013, 4:05 PM
I couldn't take any of this seriously after I saw Red Skull pull Professor X's brain out of his skull. Maybe if this was a Looney Tunes cartoon I could except that.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/28/2013, 4:05 PM
Onslaught was a combination of both Xavier and Magneto's mind because Xavier wiped Magneto's mind clean during Fatal Attractions.I think Onslaught had Magneto's powers too.I have those comics and I should reread them.I think I've forgotten a lot from that storyline.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/28/2013, 4:10 PM
I loved the Onslaught storyline from the 90s.It had great art too from Joe Madureira,Roger Cruz, and Andy and Adam Kubert.I think the Onslaught storyline got a lot of hate because it lead into the Heroes Reborn comics.I did love the Fantastic Four relauch with Jim Lee on art duties.I still have those books too.
DukeAcureds - 2/28/2013, 4:11 PM
No way.
I've been getting that Onslaught feeling a lot, lately, with AU and all the rumors of a new Marvel Universe and such. Onslaught was typical '90s shite, but it was bloody exciting! Marvel had just gone bankrupt and it could have very well served as an actual swan song for 616, but then ToyBiz came along and Heroes Return happened and everything went back to normal, but they were dark times, man. Everything was getting cancelled (and that was before comics were relaunched every 3 seconds). I think Incredible Hulk, Journey Into Mystery and Uncanny X-Men were the only long-standing survivor's of that event and they have all since been cancelled (Legacy renumbering doesn't count).
DukeAcureds - 2/28/2013, 4:14 PM
MARVELPSYCHO79@ Jim Lee's Iron Man was pretty cool, too. They dove straight into the alcoholic suicidal nihilism, with him getting pissed and stepping onto the edge of the balcony, in the first issue.
DanteSparda - 2/28/2013, 4:14 PM
Former Onslaught:

sKeemAn - 2/28/2013, 4:46 PM
Skullslaught is a bad idea IMO. I liked Onslaught. Will he be fusing with minds of other villains too. Sounds like lazy writing to me.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 2/28/2013, 4:47 PM
@DukeAcureds I thought Jim Lee just designed Tony's armor for that Heroes Reborn launch.Lee drew some issues for that too.I remember Whilce Portacio handling art duties for that Iron Man book.
SKetCH - 2/28/2013, 4:53 PM
This seriously makes me wanna add 'Uncanny Avengers' to my pull list.

I LOVED Onslaught in the 90's.. he was such a force! And Hulk ending him..? In one Punch?! Great.

I follow auite a few Marvel NOW! titles, and there's something great happening here.

For those that don't know ****SPOILER ALERT****...possibly: Charles Xavier returns to his son Legion on the last page of the latest issue of 'X-Men Legacy'.
UltimateTypeface - 2/28/2013, 4:56 PM
So skull has Captain America's body and Xavier's mind??

Maybe he should get Thor's guns and Hulk's dick and he would be styling!
Asterisk - 2/28/2013, 5:03 PM
@Lev

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean, it just seems implausible to me that a comic fan hasn't heard of Onslaught.
XavierLehnsherr - 2/28/2013, 5:08 PM
"...all my life."

Hardcore readers know what I'm taking about.

That line is from one of the most f***ed up moments of all time in comic books.
Shadowelfz - 2/28/2013, 5:09 PM
Seriously, Marvel? Seriously?

When are we going to hear some good news from Marvel?
marvel72 - 2/28/2013, 5:21 PM
@ SKetCH

i'm loving x-men legacy,i didn't think i would but its really good.

especially issue 6.
beane2099 - 2/28/2013, 5:31 PM
People can say what they want (Looking at you Buy Pile Guy) but this book is comics at it's best. Fans keep talking about how they want new stuff, well here it is (conceptually anyways). Red Skull with Xavier's power is a pretty frightening concept an a genius way to bring the X Men and Avengers onto one team. Some people might object to the Onslaught business, but again, I think that's genius. No one was using the concept anyways and it makes sense in a strange way. Then you've an issue featuring young Thor fighting young Apocalypse. Who hasn't wanted to see that? Yeah I'd say it's safe to say this book has struck a cord with me.
TheSoulEater - 2/28/2013, 5:58 PM
Oh dear god...
DrDoom - 2/28/2013, 7:52 PM
So.... Red Skull became Onslaught?

Sure.... I guess.
Shadowmaster35 - 2/28/2013, 8:06 PM
Ya know i wanted them to bring him back, but not like this as some half-baked wannabe 'final boss' to this arc.
JohnnyKrypton - 2/28/2013, 8:20 PM
Remender has brought in A Red Skull. I would love it if he brought back THE Red Skull.

I haven't been keeping up - isn't Magneto half of Onslaught, or has that been retconned?
SteveRogersSon - 2/28/2013, 8:59 PM
[frick]...just bring the late 90s and early 2000 back ....Christ..

Remender's writing for this comic and Cap really suck...
Scabsallover - 2/28/2013, 11:14 PM
What made Onslaught cool was it was Magneto AND Prof X. This is just silly.
jimoakley666 - 3/1/2013, 1:03 AM
I always hated Onslaught's design. And it was around about then that Marvel started dying a death for a short period until Morrison, Waid, JMS and several others came into the brew and made them interesting.
DukeAcureds - 3/1/2013, 9:00 AM
MARVELPSYCHO@ Right you are. Memory's playing tricks on me.
comicb00kguy - 3/1/2013, 10:27 AM
Honestly, I didn't hate Onslaught at the time of his first appearance, though I did find it to be a typical overblown '90s event and ultimately utterly forgettable. I do hold a grudge against the character for being responsible for bringing the bottom-feeding filth that was "heroes reborn". DON'T get me started on that... That filth and vermin-infested turd ball replaced two of my all-time favorite runs on comics with Image filth that wasn't worth dignifying by using as toilet paper.
lucio7lopez - 3/1/2013, 9:58 PM
Red Skull with Charles Xavier mental powers and the Magneto's maximum pre-phoenix incident magnetic power??? Maybe he must wear the Jugernaut helm and the Thor's hammer to be "a little more" powerful. Good for Red Skull, time to kick some heroes ass!!
