Manga Superman still looks cool!
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 3/12/2013, 7:04 PM
beautiful but [frick] same old jim lee. mother[frick]er never improved his art since the 90s. ugh, all that cross hatching and flat drawing, no depth to it.
M3T4LL0 - 3/12/2013, 7:15 PM
Jim Lee's style is unmistakable. Always been one of my favorite comic artists.

Jim is THE MAN!!!
Blackvoid - 3/12/2013, 7:18 PM
@ToTheManWith...yea..

Hard to deny Jim Lee's drawing abilities, he's one of the strongest artists in the business. His work has always been clean, beautiful, and original for years now. I wouldnt change the style either, it aint broke.
LAXtremest - 3/12/2013, 7:18 PM
Thinking about attending Wonder-Con as a warm up to SDCC. Anyone ever been?
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/12/2013, 7:24 PM
Jim Lee is one of the greatest artists ever. His art is one of the the reasons why I started collecting comics back in the days.
jachong201 - 3/12/2013, 7:25 PM
anyone know good cons on the east coast around NY,PA, and NJ
Nivekian - 3/12/2013, 7:26 PM
V neck turtleneck armored suit = Blue Superman/ Mullet Superman.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/12/2013, 7:27 PM
If you look at Jim Lee's old Marvel work on Punisher,Alpha Flight, and X-Men, his style did change.
JMESS - 3/12/2013, 7:28 PM
Jim Lee is a God.
Jollem - 3/12/2013, 7:28 PM
jim lee is one of the best things marvel lost and dc gained
novaprime - 3/12/2013, 7:35 PM
Agreed 100% with Jollem
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 3/12/2013, 7:38 PM
lmbo splenda, either one ;) my name cracks me the [frick] up is all. i'll be back to coldsweat in a day or two.

blackvoid
that is true, can't argue with that.
demichild - 3/12/2013, 7:41 PM
@LAXtremest: I went to Wondercon in San Jose. It is probably more intimate then other Cons out there.
deanwilkins - 3/12/2013, 7:44 PM
I greatly dislike the new Superman costume. No matter who draws it, I have yet to find it impressive. I want the original costume back. Just my opinion.
LAXtremest - 3/12/2013, 7:46 PM
Demichild- Do they have more than just comic book stuff there? Like movies and what not? If I go I will be taking the wife, who doesn't quite share the love I do of comics.
GenerationX - 3/12/2013, 7:48 PM
Saw it a while back...old news

it stayed the same, for real

same body types, you wud never know cyclops was called slim.

my fanboyish gripe is his art is still flat after all these years. he uses same thickness of lines allover and can't do shadows for shit, thats why he cross hatches. that shadow and depth is all the colorist not him, thats what gives drawings 3dimensional quality. jim lee's art is beautiful as [frick] but falls flat.

compare to the king jack kirby

that is depth and perspective, like u looking into it(a window) not staring at it (a wall).

and thats all the intelligence i can muster today mi amigos, back to cursing like a mother[frick]ing drunken sailor :P
ruben - 3/12/2013, 7:50 PM
@M3T4LL0 Agree Jim lee is the man, I love his art!
rbfn04 - 3/12/2013, 7:58 PM
Jim Lee is overrated. Poor anatomy, stuck in the 90s. Kinda like the DCnU actually
marvel72 - 3/12/2013, 8:02 PM
jim lee peaked at marvel with his x-men runs, still good just not as good as he use to be.
Jollem - 3/12/2013, 8:03 PM
jim lee only keeps getting better and better. too bad marvel lost him and he really only ever did the x-men for them
DioFoRio - 3/12/2013, 8:14 PM
looked like a Kubert bro. drawing.
marvel72 - 3/12/2013, 8:15 PM
@ Jollem

started off with alpha flight went onto punisher war journal after that uncanny x-men & x-men.

x-men 1 sold 8.1 million copies($7,000,000)in the guinness book of records as the biggest selling comic.
CavEl - 3/12/2013, 8:16 PM
@ FreakingIntelligentRobertGriffin -

Marvel...we'll even throw in Lobdell.
Jollem - 3/12/2013, 8:22 PM
@marvel72 - yes, he did one or two other things, but he really only ever did the x-men. and you don't need to tell me about x-men #1. i was there when it happened. having multiple covers is a hype and marketing thing which got them a lot of that money on top of jim lee being good
Jollem - 3/12/2013, 8:25 PM

marvel72 - 3/12/2013, 8:29 PM
@ jollem

x-men 1 by claremont & lee,a number one issue that is worth f*ck all because of the massive print run.
Jollem - 3/12/2013, 8:32 PM
marvel obviously rubbed jim lee the wrong way back in the day, like what happens from time to time. sad, but these things happen. i'm just glad jim lee is still kicking ass
tonytony - 3/12/2013, 8:36 PM
Jim lee is awesome. Marvel fanboys in here hating. F8ck em. Jim lee and scott snyder combo is going to be epic.
lucio7lopez - 3/12/2013, 8:36 PM
Jack Kirby is the king!!
Ancar - 3/12/2013, 8:41 PM
He can do too much better than this chinese Supes...
marvel72 - 3/12/2013, 8:41 PM
jim lee does have trouble meeting deadlines,i'd be impressed if you could get twelve issues out of him in a year.
Jollem - 3/12/2013, 8:44 PM
@marvel72 - mr. lee has put in buttloads of work. zip yer fly up, your marvel bias is showing. don't worry, maybe jim lee can draw again for marvel one day :)
Netman0007 - 3/12/2013, 8:50 PM
GET RID OF THAT EFFING COLLAR!!!
hope420 - 3/12/2013, 8:58 PM
I love Jim Lees pencils they just lose something when they get inked and colored.
M3T4LL0 - 3/12/2013, 9:00 PM
@ ruben

Thanks for agreeing with me mang! Jim Lee is the shit.
M3T4LL0 - 3/12/2013, 9:02 PM
And to the guy saying his art lacks depth...

SERIOUSLY??? Lets see you do better!
DTor91 - 3/12/2013, 9:25 PM
@ToTheManWithTheSmallGenitals

No, he's improved drastically since the 90's. His style is similar because that's his style. But compare his technique, proportions and anatomy, storytelling, etc. He's SO much better. Compare the Gen13 cover he did in the 90's to what he does now and it's evident.
DTor91 - 3/12/2013, 9:26 PM
Only 90's artist to not improve is Rob Liefeld.
ravennpilot - 3/12/2013, 9:27 PM
"Lets see you do better" is the worst argument that can be made ever about anything. I cant build a car but I know Honda isn't BMW.

Jim Lee's art work is best when he isn't forcing the hatching onto everything. His hatching shadows kill me. Sometimes they follows the form sometimes they go where ever they like.

@M3T4LL0 that is a bad picture to use for an example of depth. He is laying characters on top of each other. His Batman piece in Jollem's post is presenting that skill very nice though.

I have a feeling that promo art for shows and banners are down in under an hour and with no real thought. He draws these guys everyday and I would bet he could crank these out pretty fast.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 3/12/2013, 9:46 PM
Jim Lee equals classic. He was the reason I started to draw as a kid, gave it up in high school though. Always drew gambit the best.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 3/12/2013, 9:49 PM
@nomis I might have to find that wizard book on eBay or amazon, I need that back in my life. Damn miss the good old days when xmen was dominating.
TheHeat - 3/12/2013, 10:10 PM
No one can touch Jim Lee's pencils. I have followed him from X-Men to WildC.A.T.S. to Batman to JL. Not a fan of Supes, but I will be collecting this series. I do wish Lee was still in Marvel though, or still doing work on WildC.A.T.S.
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 3/12/2013, 11:23 PM
lmbo M3TALLO
did u just post a pic proving my point. hahahaha :P

dtor91

this is jim lee truly switching up his style

that's deathblow. it's jim lee channeling some hot ass frank miller with his beautiful art style and dark contrasting tones. thats what lee was capable of, two decades ago.

been collecting jim lee art since 92, he barely drew gen13, it was at the height of wildstorm killing shit and jim lee had to write other titles as well as run that business. he'd put a barebones pencil sketch down and scott williams would fill it in. thats why all gen13 comicbooks had one writer and two/three artists, after all was done they'd slap on jim lee's name on the cover to sell more copies.

not knocking jim lee, i'm a huge fan just bitching a lil on this because it's been irritating me for a while ^_^
Jollem - 3/12/2013, 11:38 PM
jim lee bomb

thewolfx - 3/12/2013, 11:52 PM
God i hate that collar
SageMode - 3/13/2013, 12:22 AM
That looks like an Andy Kubert drawing.
hush - 3/13/2013, 12:27 AM
I love Jim Lee's work, he will always be my fave.
SteveRogersSon - 3/13/2013, 1:29 AM
somethings about his art will never change...the NOlan long stares into no where....every hero is in a wind tunnel so his/her cape flaps in such awkward manners...still pretty...though it would be boss to have a smiling Superman again....damn DCnPU
