Jupiter Ascending will be released on July 25th, 2014. This means that Andy and Lana Wachowski's (The Matrix Trilogy, Cloud Atlas) latest sci-fi film will face off against Hercules (which is based on the Hercules: The Thracian Wars graphic novel). The Brett Ratner helmed fantasy epic was recently moved so that it wouldn't be released opposite Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, but both of these films now open just a week after X-Men: Days of Future Past. July 2014 will be one busy month for moviegoers! The film stars Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean, Douglas Booth and Tuppence Middleton, and "is set in a time where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder and are watched by higher forms of life and follows a woman who has been targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe."

I take Jupiter Ascending over Hercules.

Brett Ratner is a shitty director and THE ROCK looks nothing like Hercules. Gerard Butler would be a better choice.

Let's see: ratner sucks when he's not doing rush hour and the Wachowski's only good film was the first matrix as cloud atlas was garbage.

Cloud Atlas = the most underrated and misunderstood movie of 2012
thewonderer - 3/14/2013, 8:57 PM
I dug Cloud Atlas.

If you give it a chance and watch it intently the whole way through before judging it, more like than not you'll get immense satisfaction out of it.

I really liked it.

@Ramon and thewonderer:

Very true. I enjoyed Cloud Atlas a lot. Shame it didn't do very good in the BO. It sucks that they're having to fight both Hercules starring the Rock and X-men a week in. That's heavy competition and I want the Siblings to succeed so that they can go on and keep making movies.

I bet you Sean Bean gets killed in the movie. He dies in almost everything he is in. If in the movie Jupiter Ascending and they wanted to do something neat with his character you could see him keep coming close to death. This way you think he is going to die then does not. Then right before the movie end he dies.

I remember seeing the matrix in a cinema way back in 99 still an incredible movie...better than any of the generic mcu movies put together.

My problem with wachowski films is the stilted/unnatural dialogue that characters have. Everyone either talks like a master philosopher, or just... not quite right. This "too philosophical" or "not quite right" carries over the characters themselves as a whole. They don't really let us do the philosophical exploration via these characters, they just sort of have to spell out everything.

I liked Matrix, I liked Cloud Atlas, and I liked what little I saw of Speed Racer.

But they need to be a little more subtle with their philosophical ideas, and need to write characters that feel more human.

Allright screw Hercules it's done by Brett Ratner I have already lost interest

Was thinking about seeing Jupiter Rising until I saw Channing Tatum. Won't be seeing it in theaters. Hercules=Brett Ratner. Welp...July 2014 just got a bit less busy for this movie-goer.
