Deadline reports that Silver Pictures and Studio Canal are teaming up to reboot the classic 1981 movie, Escape From New York. New Line were at one point planning on doing the same with producer Neil Moritz and director Breck Eisner, but those plans fell through when they lost the rights two years ago. Studio Canal have fully handed the rights over to legendary producer Joel Silver and he is reportedly planning, "an entirely new take on the material. The goal is to turn it into a trilogy, starting with an origin story in a fashion similar to the way Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes restarted that franchise." A search for a writer is currently said to be under way.

Awesome, this could make a great, dark, gritty, grim, bloody, everything-is-[frick]ing-bad franchise. Can't wait.

The name Joel Silver isn't what it used to be, the dude produced some of best action films of the 80's and 90's lethal weapon, die hard, predator and the [frick]ing Matrix (trust me the list is longer) hell he had the balls to produce V for Vendetta (highly underrated CBM IMO) so sorry for skepticism no one can match John Carpenter but I'll wait and see I guess the casting of Snake Plissken will make or break this movie.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/18/2013, 12:02 PM
I agree with the YouTube vid above me.Hollywood officially has no original ideas anymore.
AINTNOTHINTOFOCWIT - 3/18/2013, 12:02 PM
can't wait for this. hopefully they cast Channing Tatm as Snake
Danbojohnj - 3/18/2013, 12:03 PM
Sacrilege.
Hellsing - 3/18/2013, 12:03 PM
Hopefully they go with someone who's a bit more rugged and older for the role not some pretty boy.
IM53 - 3/18/2013, 12:03 PM
No [frick]ing way.. Sorry Hollyweird don't touch our guy.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/18/2013, 12:04 PM
I know this would be sort of typecasting but I think that Kurt Russell would have been a great Nick Fury.
SCURVYDOG619 - 3/18/2013, 12:04 PM
WHAT?!?

Tell me they are not going the prequel route with this...

Here come all the "Josh Holloway as Snake Plissken" rumors...

And without involvement from Carpenter or Kurt Russell?
smh....
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/18/2013, 12:06 PM
That Darth Vader vid is too funny!
hope420 - 3/18/2013, 12:06 PM
Why can't Hollywood leave the good classics alone and remake the bad ones? How about a good remake to Mega Force?
IM53 - 3/18/2013, 12:07 PM
Psycho I agree. Kurt pulls off dickhead good guy like no other....Kurt Russell photo: kurt russell kurt_russell.jpg
Wingding - 3/18/2013, 12:07 PM
This movie sucked...lol
yagami88 - 3/18/2013, 12:07 PM
Get Kurt Russell again!! Let him play Snake in this and in the Metal Gear movie!! As long as it's not Channing Tatum or Christian Bale, I'm good!! Christian is a good actor, but he's becoming the next Nicholas Cage.
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 3/18/2013, 12:11 PM
@yagami88 How in the hell is Christian Bale becoming the next Nic Cage?Bale was great in The Fighter. He really did look and acted like a crackhead.
fettastic - 3/18/2013, 12:12 PM
I'll believe it when I see it. I kinda like his idea of seeing how America falls into a fascist state because we've never seen that before (other than the Bush Presidency of course).

@yagami88

HOW ON EARTH is Christian Bale becoming the next Nicolas Cage? Haven't laughed so hard on stupidity of the comment in days.
l0rdleg0las - 3/18/2013, 12:15 PM
just make John Carpenter's rumored Escape from Earth and give Kurt one more go with this iconic character before they [frick] it up
IcemanX - 3/18/2013, 12:17 PM
Yes... Josh Holloway for Snake Plissken!!! Somebody should start a petition on facebook.
Maia87 - 3/18/2013, 12:17 PM
LEAVE THE 80S ALONE!!
preacher - 3/18/2013, 12:18 PM
I was looking forward to this when I red they were remaking it a couple of years ago. At that time, Gerard Butler was to be taking over as Snake. He's still my first choice.
fettastic - 3/18/2013, 12:22 PM
Yes i too would be fine with Josh Holloway donning the eyepatch. Seems like a perfect fit. They have to get things going quick though because he's getting a little old now.
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 3/18/2013, 12:24 PM

InfiniteMonkey - 3/18/2013, 12:34 PM
Why New York?
Why can't they make this escape from something else?
Wow, no imagination at all.
There are so many place names in history and the world. Boring...

Get this guy to play the president. LOL

FilmDrake - 3/18/2013, 12:52 PM
Just do Escape from Cleveland!
It's where Snake got sell his street cred. they refer to it constantly in NY. This way, just make a prequel, not a reboot...
Hellsing - 3/18/2013, 12:52 PM
Wow the Nic Cage and Christian Bale comparison has to be the funniest shit I've ever heard. Please give me the number of your dealer looks like you've been smoking some high grade shit!
JorL5150 - 3/18/2013, 12:56 PM
It'll be jason statham, the rock or channing tatum.

Pass.
Nomis - 3/18/2013, 12:59 PM
Kurt Russell has said if Escape from L.A. had been a hit then the next one in line was going to be Escape from Earth in which Snake was going to have to blow up the earth.
Greenlantern1417 - 3/18/2013, 1:06 PM
Worst idea ever!!!!!
Rowsdower - 3/18/2013, 1:15 PM
God, no.

SEQUEL WITH NEW ACTOR AS SNAKE, please!

Hopefully Mad Max: Fury Road will set a new trend in bringing back old characters.
TheOnlyFanOfSentry - 3/18/2013, 1:17 PM
it could be good, or it could bomb!
Rowsdower - 3/18/2013, 1:21 PM
Escape from Earth was going to be the shit. The entire Earth is a prison because of what Plissken pulled in EFLA. It was going to have zombies and shit.
jessepostal - 3/18/2013, 1:26 PM
im down!
HRDWYR - 3/18/2013, 1:26 PM
I think a a prequel would be cool to see(if done right). I'd like to see more of Snake's world. Not sure who to cast though. Not many out there that can pull off the proper "grittiness".

-just my two cents-
SageMode - 3/18/2013, 1:29 PM

You cant Metal Gear Solid and this coming out!
TheDudeRises - 3/18/2013, 1:38 PM
I'm all for a reboot. Who doesn't want more Snake? But this worries me. Methinks this will suck donkey balls.

Now, on to casting! I say Raylan Givens would make a badass Plissken. OLYPHANT for the win!

And DeNiro for Cabbie.
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/18/2013, 1:40 PM
WOW just WOW
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/18/2013, 1:42 PM
I agree. How about you spend money on brinning Metal Gear Solid to the big creen and not reboot of Snake Plissken.
Gusto - 3/18/2013, 1:46 PM
ƒuck my childhood...
SlaveMasterFlexXx - 3/18/2013, 1:52 PM
Never cared for the original and another remake no thanks. But Joel Silver has produced some of the greatest action movies. Ah who cares and as for the Cage/ Bale comparison, Bale is pretty pointless now that he's not batman. CageMaster FTW!
