POLL: Should The IRON MAN Franchise Continue Without Robert Downey Jr.?
Last night, it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. is in talks to return for The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3, but NOT Iron Man 4. If Marvel decide to give the armoured Avenger's solo outings a break for Phase 3, should another actor be found for Phase 4 and beyond?
By the time The Avengers 2 is released, Robert Downey Jr. will be 50 years of age, and if you allow another three years for the third instalment to hit the big screen, he'll then be approaching 53. While he certainly doesn't look his age, it's understandable why he's only talking to Marvel about reprising the role of Tony Stark for those rather than another solo Iron Man movie. So, let's assume that the studio decide to give the Armoured Avenger a rest in Phase 3 in order to introduce some other characters (Doctor Strange, Black Panther, etc.). Should another actor be found to take over the role for Phase 4 and beyond?
This isn't like Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man over at Sony where a new actor is brought in for a reboot. What Marvel Studios has done is unprecedented. They have created a cinematic universe. It would make no sense at all to suddenly reboot the Iron Man franchise as that would mean that it wouldn't sync up with their other releases. Instead, it's far more likely that it would carry on as the likes of something like James Bond, and Marvel have already shown that they have no qualms about replacing actors when they have to. So, what we want to know from you is whether or not you believe there's life for 'ol shellhead after Robert Downey Jr.
