David Goyer Says A MAN OF STEEL Sequel Depends On The Next Two Weeks At The Box Office
Talking at last night's European premiere of Man of Steel in London, screenwriter David Goyer addressed those recent reports that a sequel has already been given the greenlight and says that while they do have some ideas, it all depends on the all important box office results.
Unfortunately, Man of Steel hasn't received the overwhelmingly positive reaction from critics that many expected (it currently has 60% on Rotten Tomatoes and 55 on Metacritic), but it was still reported this week that Warner Bros. were moving ahead with a sequel which would reunite director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David Goyer. Talking at the European premiere of the movie yesterday, the latter was asked to comment on these reports and said that despite having some ideas for a follow-up, it will all depend on how well the reboot performs at the worldwide box office. "I'm under lock and key, but it would be disingenuous to say we didn't [have ideas]. A lot is going to depend on this weekend and next weekend. We certainly are hoping for a sequel." A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Man of Steel had already made back its production budget thanks to its many sponsors, so chances are it will indeed do well enough to ensure a sequel.
